Location: north central wisconsin | Our club has held its Fathers Day weekend outing out of Heart II bar and grill for nearly 20 years. Their pizza and service was excellent. Sadly they have closed and a few of my other leads have dried up.
I need to find a place quickly so I can comunicate the meeting spot to our members for the weekend of June 17-19. I'd like to keep it in the Arbor Vitae/St. Germain area as some people fish to the west, some over towards Eagle River. We meet Saturday night for a social and awards/meal on Sunday at noon when we'd like to have a pizza luncheon for about 25 people. Looking for a place that would be willing to host this. We don't ask much of the host establishment other than keeping a tab for tap beer saturday night, a sign up sheet, and good pizza!!
Thanks for any and all recomendations. I've tried the Dutch Door in St. Germain and they are closed, and couldn't get in touch with Fibbers the few times I have tried.

Location: St. Germain, WI | knockers pizza that used to be on dam lake in sugar camp just recently moved into the old Eilasons resturant in downtown St. Germain. give em a call. i don't have the number handy but they are on facebook. sorry but i am not.

Most fish minocqua/woodruff/Mani, with just a couple small groups towards Eagle River, who are usually on their way hom anyhow on Sunday. I'll keep in mind though, and give a try if I continue to strike out on options as I seem to be... Can you tell me anything about anywhere else in the minocqua area?

i think the same of minocqua pizza company who load a crust with crappy cheese and call it pizza ...
we really do miss heart II in the area for good pizza.
best place to go will be where the former knockers owner is ... he bought a place in st. germaine and makes a great pie!!! he sold the old place on the lake to john (former bartender at pitlicks) who makes the best bloody-mary in the woods. i'll do some checking and get back to you as soon as i can. i'd be glad to help you out on the ground too if you need any assistance. |

Location: Loves Park, IL | What about Spang's in St Germain right across from Musky Hunter Magazine? We've had good food from them in the past, it's been a while, though. They have a smaller room off to the north that could be used as a separate room for a group. Wasn't there a newer pizza place next to Ray's bait shop that opened a couple years ago? Maybe someone can chime in on those two places. Sad to hear that a few places have closed. Economy is tough on tourism.

I think when it comes to WI and pizza you just take what you can get. Probably why it sounds like very few places last very long and there seems to be very few places in WI...:) |

Location: minocqua, wi. | i guess i've never been impressed with Monical's ... might be the style of pie. other than spangs, heart 2, boulder beer bar and knockers i'd prefer a peps over what most places serve.
i'm curious about the place that is mentioned on g and n ... will have to check that out.
twelve pines is a thin crust and home-made. they are fantastic ... place is owned by a guy from illinois who knows what he's doing and has been in the woods long enough to know how to run a place up here too.
riverstone for 25 pizza-eatin' musky fishermen .... really???? lmao ... they drinkin' a smooth cab or a pinot with that?? |

Location: north central wisconsin | Wow, thanks so much guys. I am sure it really doesn't matter all that much to most folks in the group, other than location. However, as one of the pickier pizza eaters you'll meet and the fact that I'm organizing it, I would like to make the correct choice. Chances are we will be at the next place we like for the foreseeable future.(I loved heart II's thin crust ordered with light cheese, they were a 7.5-8 on a 10 scale for pizza for me).
I'll be fishing by Mercer so I will have to drive to wherever it is. Sayner wouldn't be a bad deal for me and shouldn't be bad for those coming from eagle river. Is it big enough for the group? Open on Sunday afternoon? What is the name of the old Knockers guys place? Sled, I appreciate your help thus far, and that you've done in the past.
As an aside, we did Monicals once about 7 years ago when Heart II was closed for a wedding. It wasn't received all that well, but is a back up. Isn't there another place right near there called lolas or something that makes good pizza?

But for what J is looking for, if its a sunday it might be fine... could be tight on a sat night... Little pricy thought...
So for a big group prob better options... but try a calzone some time if you are in the area... top shelf.

| Another vote for Sayner Pub. Great Thin Crust Pizza, and plenty of room to stretch out. Beer is very cold. Nice people. Chevy's get stuck in the snow banks there! It's OK. I was there to pull it out with my Ford! hehehe

we'll have to agree to disagree ...
their prices are ridiculous but they get it because it's minocqua, throwing a huge amount of commodity mozz on top of a za doesn't do it for me. as stated earlier, there just isn't much competition in the minocqua area for a truly great pizza ... spangs burning down saved those guys and the won the business they never would have gotten by default. i'd like to see it improve to the point where spangs was.
traveling to knockers since heart II closed has been the best option ... twelve pines blows em all away with a real pizza pie that barney rubble would be proud of.
