Posts: 51 | Looks sharp. How high does it sit out of the water? The Skeeters look like they sit higher than the Tuffys or Rangers. How slow does it troll down with the 150? I do a little bit of pulling cranks for walleyes when I'm not musky fishing. I hear the F150 is a strong 150 and has bullet proof reliability.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Love those really big tiller boats. I think a boat like that screams "serious fisherman" because why would somebody that didn't get it to FISH spend that much money to get into a TILLER? Is somebody able to fish from the back or does it need any kind of deck/extension to fish from the back? Nice looking boat. I love my 16.5' tiller, would like a BIG tiller some day. Tucker

Posts: 299 | Gosh, look at the amount of deck space on that boat!! Dang!! You know I never wanted a tiller but the more I see and Ive fished out of a few I realize it's the perfect Muskie fishing layout. It's got to be great to have that much open room!! Congrats!

Posts: 67 | I've got a questio for ya. Will you put some kind of Ram mount on the end of the trolling motor so when traveling down the road, the TM doesnt bounce all over? My TM seems to bounce alot when going down bumpy hwy10!

I thought they only had a 115 hp rating?

I thought they only had a 115 hp rating? the current rating is for 115hp. i found this new/unsold 2009 which has the higher rating at 150hp. there are a few out there still on dealer floors, i liked this color the best and also the team at Skeeter Boat Center really impressed me, great guys.

Guest - 4/11/2011 7:11 PM I thought they only had a 115 hp rating? It's got that rating because the boat is rigged with Power Steering. The Ranger 620T, Tuffy 2060T and any other Tiller that size has to have Power Steering in order to have a larger motor than a 115.

while there may "technically" be no requirement for power assisted steering on boats over 20' long, boat companies want happy customers...so you do see more than one rating listed by some companies on tiller rigs depending on whether or not the boat has the power steering. in the case of the Skeeter that i bought, my best guess is that it's a combination of marketing and access to the technology. Skeeter is owned by Yamaha and was happy to put 150hp motors on the boat when they had access to the Merten-designed "Power Tiller Steering" system in 2009 and earlier. it's my understanding that starting in 2010 when Mercury bought the Power Tiller Steering system from Merten that Yamaha had to switch to the "Titan Tiller Steering" system (also designed by Merten) which is only able to handle motors up to 115hp. rather than create an incentive for people to put Mercury motors on Skeeter boats, Yamaha/Skeeter lowered the rating to 115hp to keep their Yamaha motors the most obvious pairing for it. actual sales seem to favor the 115hp over the 150hp on that hull anyway, so it probably hasn't mattered too much in terms of sales for a niche market like big tillers. but i imagine if/when Yamaha has access to a different power steering system that can handle the 150hp motors, they'll raise the rating on the WX2000T again. i've got an '09 with the 150hp rating paired with the Power Tiller Steering. it's really a great innovation: i've only been out once so far, but hopping on plane with no handle feedback and cruising at over 45mph with no motor torque is pretty freaking sweet.

Posts: 69 | I have a 2008 Ranger 620T, with a 150hp E-Tec. On the boat it reads max HP 115, max HP with Mertens power steering 150... In 2009, they bumped the maximum up to 200hp with power steering, only if you are running a Mercury Verado. I believe Mercury is the only set up that has a system for a 200hp. I asked Frankies Marine if I could upgrade to a 200hp when it's time to upgrade, and they told me absolutely not, even though the hulls are identical from 08-09.

That's a sweet look'n boat. Does the power steering run off an extra battery? it runs off the cranking battery...though the only time the power steering really needs to be running is when the motor is running (and therefore charging the battery), so i'm not worried about any issues running the battery down. i did upsize to 31-series dual-purpose starting battery since there's a fair amount of electronics running from that battery: lights, pumps, radio, sonar/gps displays, steering pumps, etc.

Where does the "back man" fish from? boats are a study in compromises...tiller rigs often mean no back deck. the side tanks are wider than those of comparable tillers that i checked out. where most have barely enough room for a shoe, these side tanks are 15" wide, more than enough room for me to balance on with a few inches to spare even in rough conditions. i've also seen rear casting decks built over the splash-wells on similar tillers. if needed, i can always do something like that.

No worries, I see plenty of room for me to stand and cast back there.
