Just wanted to post a big thank you to TI for the great service. Needed a rod and some lures a few weeks ago for a trip and was driving through Oskaloosa Iowa and emailed James about stopping by. He was fine with it and my brother and I stopped by the next night. Even though he was having dinner with his family he still was happy to spend 30 minutes with my brother brother and I to show us the TI rods and lures. Really helped make our trip down South for our winter fishing fix! A+ on the rods and all of the lures he fixed us up with. Can't believe the rods and the quality of them for what he is selling them for! Class act guy and operation he has going. Ted

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Here is even a better fish for a catch on the rod. One from Jeff. He said he pulled up a ~200# log snag before this fish. I believe he was using a 9' XH TI rod for both the wood and sturgeon catch. I owe Jeff a lot too. He breaks my prototypes for me and gets me info to make my rod and lures tackle better and better. He is hard on stuff and I thank him for it! James Attachments ---------------- Jef St2.jpg (88KB - 153 downloads)

Posts: 1030 Location: APPLETON, WI | Good lord... that photo is insane! I've got (2) TI rods from James (both 9'0" XH)... anyone have any issue using the XH rod for throwing mag dawgs and pounders?? I'm wondering if I need to step up one of the TI XXH rods in order to throw lures with this kind of weight?

Thanks a lot, man! I'm going to step up to the XXH for the heavy rubber and have that same peace of mind. I don't want to push the limits too bad.

Posts: 79 | CU301DSV, I caught the fish on a glittertail and the rod was an XH 9'. In reguards to fish lengths, I tend to keep that to myself or some select inner circle of friends. Sorry. I use the XH 9' for everything from rad dogs to double 12s,13s. I use the XXH 9' for pounder/big rubber. I have numerous TI rods and personally like the way they feel. Before using using the TI 9'XH rod I was using a custom made softer rod with a faster tip. I felt like I had great casting distance but my boatside strikes were lacking the backbone I desired, especially on double tens. (I feel I lost a number of fish on the 8 because of this.) I tried the TI 9' XXH but that was a bit too stiff and my cast lengths suffered. On the picture of the musky I posted that was a boatside figure 8 hit. I like having a little stiffer rod and tip for setting the hook in the 8. I run an Avet MXL lefty on the 9'XH rod and as many have posted a little stiffer rod works better with a high speed reel. I am probably not the ultimate expert on fishing rods and I am sure others that post on MF have a ton more knowledge, but I have caught a fair number of fish on the TI rods and just really like them and consider it an honor to be able to give James feedback on his rods.

Posts: 15 | Is it possible to use the 9' XH for 11" sinking Curly Sues? Or do I need to get the XXH for those lures?

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | pikeaddict You can use the XH for that lure no problem but you may be happier with the XXH for that size lure. All of my rods I test with a 2lb swimbait for durability. The main thing is how the rods load up with the various weights of the lures you are using. I rated the rods MH, XH and XXH but pay more attention to the rod lure rating. The rods are rated for various lure weight for optimal loading. Many rod manufacturers will cross over on the MH, X, XH, XXH, etc rating so IMO that designation is hard to go by from rod brand to rod brand. Let me know if you have any other Qs. FYI-Musky Tackle online and Tackle Industries (TI) have the rods on special for $110 right now. June 1 is the end of the “winter" special. I hope to have my single piece 9' rods ready to ship prior to this date. 6 new rod lines coming soon with both full and split grip 18” fat cork handles! James

James And all of the new rods will be 1 piece, non-telescoping, correct? How will their ounce ratings and overall weights compare to the current TI offerings?

do any of your rods have normal size cork or just the fat cork?

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Yes, all one piece solid 9' rods. As for weight, they are very similar to the current telescopic rods, just slightly less in weight (about 0.5oz or so). The rod weights will put them about equivalent to the big brand high $$$ rods so I am very happy with the blank design and new materials used to make my custom blanks. Once in a while things go right As for the handles, they all have the fat cork. Actually I have yet to find anyone who got one who does not like the fatter cork handles. Most rods are about 1"-1.2" in diameter and mine are just under 1.5" in diameter so its not a lot. Just enough for extra comfort while using the rod all day. It does make a big difference during a long fishing day. James

What will the price point be or have you not gotten that far yet? When you say solid 1-piece 9' rod... are you also alleviating the extension handle with the new model, as well? Also, as mentioned earlier - will the new rods allow for the same lure weight ratings? Or will they be different? I really like the two rods I currently have of yours and I know they're going for a great price right now, but there's significant improvements over the new models coming out - I'll hold off and wait 'til you reveal them. Thanks!

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Time line is about 8-10 weeks and both Musky Tackle Online and myself will have the rods on special for $110 for a little while after they are ready to ship. A few more retailers may pick them up for special too before June 1 so I will let you know who has them for that price. I wil still offer the removable handle rods and the telescopic rods for my customers who have storage issues. For the rod specifications, I will have all three MH, XH and XXH and they are all rated the same for lure weight ranges. Both split grip and full grip handles will be offered. The rods have been going over so well I literally will have the volume of a 53" semi truck of rods in my inventory in about 8-10 weeks. I hope to not run out for 2011 you can see the current specs here: http://www.tackleindustries.com/muskypikerods.html Thanks, James

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | End of May right now. I will not have these in Camo. Those look cool but I have not had many takers on those rods. I woudl love to get a bunch of colors that match up to Ranger boats. Just not enough warehouse room If you want me to email you the day they are ready to buy just send me an email to [email protected] I will keep these on special for $110 too for a week or two so everyone can still have the "winter" special. Thanks, James
