Hey...not sure if you're planning on doing anything "official" with this or not (any type of publication). I'm guessing it's just for yourself, but just in case, I thought I would mention that Kentucky's record should be Sarah Terry, not Sarah Salchli. I believe it was Scott S.'s step-daughter.

And what...you guys don't think that Wisconsin grows bigger muskies than Minnesota and all other states? ...

Minnesota fish certainly have the potential to break the record, if they would only stop spearing them before they got that big...

Georgia Muskies and Muskies in North and south Carolina. This is too cool. There are rivers in the south where we can get our fix during hard water up here Mike

Mn has more problems with border jumpers and walleye guys keeping the fish of their lifetimes than spearing.

Considering that WI is noticeably absent from the yearly contest standings for the Muskies Inc Longest Fish Release, year after year after year? I'd say it's not belief as much as proven statistical analysis.

But then what do I know? Maybe the giant muskies are just too smart to be caught in WI!

In fact, that could be a new marketing campaign! "Wisconsin. Our biggest muskies are so intelligent that nobody ever sees them. The muskies in MN and Ontario are just stupid. Smart fishermen fish for smart fish! Come to WI and try your luck against a worth adversary -- SMART muskies!"

Cool, another one from the NEW River and only half a pound bigger. Still 45.5 pounds is a big freaking fish.

What really surprises me is the Illinois record not being over 40 pounds. Mike

One very interesting statistic is glaringly present. I dont see one one famous Musky fisherman holding a state record. I have never heard of most of them except for Art Lawton but he was not really in the industry or a guide . All the top guides we have and professionals and not one record between them. This must be due to release ethics. I have to believe there has been a bigger fish caught from Minnesota then the posted record. Mil Lacs? Vermillion? Come on man. Mike

WV has a record for length and weight. You have the weight listed.

2003 57.2" 38.5 lbs Stonecoal Lake Glenn Boyd

1997 50.37" 49.75 lbs Stonecoal Lake Anna Marsh

Correction...

2003 52.2" 38.5 lbs Stonecoal Lake Glenn Boyd

Nice thing about this record is that fish longer than Mr. Boyd's have been caught and released.

I have heard of many fish caught in MN that are most likely pushing the record.....problem is this is a dead fish contest...I think there is definetely a culture in MN that opposes killing a musky to break the record....seems to me that a new process needs to be put in place.

Illinois has forty pounders but to have the record it has to be clubbed.  I personally hope the record is never beaten.  Sure would like there to be an accurate way to record release records and honor THOSE fisherman instead!

Yes, this was the only list I was able to find. So far I am very surprised to find Muskies in Georgia and Alabama. I didnt think they were that far south. All of the Tiger waters were not listed. Im thinking the musky world is growing eh? Mike

Well Lake St. Clair went from being the club em capital of the Muskie world to the Release em capital. With the new tanks and the weigh in stations all around the lake they can do just that. Weigh them then take them back out and release them. This was done by the Michigan Ontario Muskie club and some and some very dedicated anglers who purchased those scales. It can be done anywhere in the Musky range if you want it bad enough. There should be several on Mil Lacs and Vermillion. These lakes have the potential to erase the old record in Minn. Mike

What I found interesting was the records (if they are correct) for Ohio and Pennsylvania. Those are some big fish from states you wouldn't necessarily suspect would produce them that big.

The best way to compile a list would be to search each state and not look for a list that someone else created.

This list only shows the Michigan GL muskelunge. That record was broken in Sept. 2009 and now stands at 50.5#. The record not shown is the N. strain muskellunge was set in 2000 and stands at 49.75#.

muskellunged--with totally negative attitudes towards someone who would keep a state record fish it makes it hard for reasonable people to discuss anything. "THOSE" fisherman have every right to keep a record fish ---I guess you would slam 14 yr old Sarah from Ky since she kept Ky's new record fish 2 years ago ? She was fishing with a guide --you wish to slam "THOSE" fisherman also ? Ohhh the audacity of keeping a record fish -- I hope Ill's record gets broken numerous times !!!! !!!! !!!!! !!!! ! ! !
