Posts: 829 Location: Maple Grove, MN | Now that the Muskie season is closed, football is drawing to a close, and the lakes are iced over, what do you all do for activities? I help coach my oldest daughter's basketball team and am trying to catch up on the honey-do list. Anyone care to share what you all do at this time of year?

Posts: 8782 | I work a lot to save money for muskie season. I spend a lot of time here talking about muskie fishing. And then around the end of March I start to panic because all my gear is still in a giant pile in the basement in various states of disrepair. That ususally takes a month or so to sort out, and by then it's time to start fishing!

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | Help coach the kids for wrestling, which ends up sitting in a gym each weekend until about the end of February. It is fun though and I enjoy it. A little ice fishing here and there. And possibly a trip up to the cabin to check things out, look for sheds, and see where the deer have been or haven't been. Plus with work the winter goes by pretty quick. Still waiting for open water (usually mid March) for th walleye runs on the fox just to get the itch out and take the boys to catch some fish.

Posts: 633 | This year I am looking for a new job, as I was laid off a couple weeks ago. 2 interviews so far, and 2 more on Monday. Go to the Y, and try to drop some pounds, I need to get in the boat, and work on fixing the floor. Dream about warm weather.

Guitar, grouse hunting, rabbit hunting, trapping. My favorite thing in the world was January quail hunting, but the bobwhite is more or less extinct due to America's love affair with overpopulation and development.

Posts: 908 Location: South-Central PA | I love to trout fish this time of year. Usually the streams around here aren't frozen for long periods of time and I can get out once and awhile- not this year. Too cold! I bide my time building custom rods and lures and dreaming of long summer float trips on the river... jeremy

Location: SE Wisconsin | chasintails - 1/27/2011 9:54 AM How has the shed hunting been Sam. I have yet to get out this year to look but maybe this weekend. Weak! Most bucks are still holding around here, although I have some trail footage of a half-rack and one missing both sides. Just yesterday at lunch I drove past an area I can always see deer from the road and saw one big bodied buck with soda can bloody bases - still fresh, bleeding and dripping. Wish I didn't work in an office sometimes so I wouldn't worry about hopping out of the car and walking in with my dress shoes on, lol.

I used to shed hunt, almost everyday. Now I live in Florida, in the winter. I golf twice a week, and bass fish once or twice a week. I go up to Vermilion, on May 15, and stay till October 1st. I'm originally from the Chicago area, but retired from law enforcement, almost two years ago.
