| Nothing says the middle of December like a stupid hypothetical question from me. So, here it is:
Could some one pay you to never fish for muskies again for the rest of your life, and if so, how much would it take? And I mean that you couldn't even fish a lake with muskies in it, for any other species, where you still would have a chance at making contact with one.

| Doesn't even take money, lot of other outdoor activities that are more rewarding than muskie fishing. It is fun to catch them, many better ways to spend time outside. Just a matter of if you want to limit yourself to one way of fishing or one fish...BR |

Location: Eastern Ontario | How much are you offering? I have fished muskies for 30 years and caught a lot of fish and not likely to catch much larger than I have allready caught. For a price I could take on a new challenge I was considering brain surgery. |

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | I was out in Colorado (Long's Peak area) for a week this summer and started getting addicted to climbing the rocks and hiking. Made it up to chasm lake....very cool breaking above the tree line into the tundra! I told my wife if we had to move there I'd turn into a climbing junkie---seriously addicting! So yeah I could find another challenge to get addicted to. Dollar amount?hard to say. |

| i guess for me fishing is muskie fishing!, I really very rairly fish anything else, I just don't desire to fish other species, maybe a taste of crappie fishing through ice but not much. I could do without for sure but to not muskie fish would be giving up fishing and i am not sure I could do that! |

| I CANT give up musky fishing!!!!
if I could I could get out of this god forsaken high tax,laws up the ### frozen tundra,jungle humid summer, Minnesota and move some place warm in the winter.
very active in Muskies inc and other conservation,,,, but,,,,if VHS came and wiped em all out,,I could go back to leading a normal life  |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | If I couldnt afford to fish Canada or to drive to N.WI a couple times a year, I'd be happy to give up muskies. In fact, I probably would. Yes, there are shots at fish in S.WI, N.IL and the Webster area, but if I'm chucking for muskies I am really only interested in chasing a big fish. Maybe I just suck at muskie fishing, but in none of those places have I had enough encounters with truly big fish that it really holds my attention or gets me all that motivated to hook up the boat and get on the road. Or maybe Eagle Lake has just spoiled me to the idea that every next cast could be THE ONE, and when I'm chucking on the Fox Chain or S.WI, I can't lie to myself enough to believe that.
I'd still get the boat wet chasing salmon on the big pond, and would finally figure out where the smallies go throughout the season. I'd play more beach vball (did that more than muskies last summer, too. one reason: females in bikinis), workout more and probably be a better husband.
Not sure it would be such a loss. Chasing muskies is fun, but take out the big fish chances for me, and it's about hanging out with friends, which I can do minus muskies. |

Muskie fishing is fun and all, but I'd give it up in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity to spend more time in the BWCA.
Which would be possible if I had more money and could work less!
Muskie fishing just happens to be conveniently located near home for me.
To tell the truth the number of guys fishing for them now makes it much less appealing than in the past.

Even if by chance I were to hang up the Musky Fishing and take on other species, majority of the lakes I would still want to fish would hae Muskies in it. And since that is part of the deal to not be able to fish those lakes also, the deal would be off. |

| Just relocate me to a southern salty coast and find me a job and I'd be out of this crap weather and still fishing for fish that fight harder than any freshwater fish. Spent some time in Louisiana and Florida this fall, and I think I'm not addicted to Saltwater fishing!
The outdoor scenery leaves a lot to be desired down there tho, much prettier up north! But many more bikini's down south! |

Location: Lake Tomahawk, WI | Would be easy, lots of outdoor related activities out there that are just as fun if not more fun. Hell, I moved to Montana in 98 'cause I'd had enough of muskies and wanted to big game hunt in the mountains and don't regret that choice for a second.
Last summer we were filming a smallmouth segment in Vilas. They were off the beds and staging on small rock clumps. We were cruising and spotting the structure, then fishing. Low density lake with great quality. It was one the most fun days of fishing I'd had in awhile. The pothole lakes in back of the resort had a bumper crop of big gills last year and my young nephews/nieces had a ball shore fishing with me. Filleting 3lb to 5lb pike all winter. Big flathead cats pulled out of deep holes on the Mississippi, 5 lb rainbows on lite ice rods in Montana. Snook, redfish in the Gulf. 25lb pike on tip-ups on the Missouri River system out West...
Muskies are fun, but just one small piece of the pie. Personally I could live without 'em.

Heck yeah!!! I've got enough money to pay the mortgage, bills, and eat out a few times a week... oh yeah, and to save for one day a year to just spend money like it grows on a tree at a musky show. Get to go fishing more than I deserve and as far as I'm concerned that all makes me as wealthy as I'd ever need to be! So keep your money, and I'll keep day dreaming of the big one(s) that got away... and anticipating possible trips to come. |

| Hate to admit it, but I actually agree with Slamr! When I started out, a lake with muskies in it was enough. I just wanted to catch one. Every once in a while I did. Then I just wanted to catch them all. Every once in a while, I'd have a 3 fish day. Then I started fishing Vilas County. After that it was Eagle Lake. Once you've fished in a place where every cast could realistically be the cast that brings you a 40# fish? It's hard to go back and be excited about fishing in a place where the closest quality muskie fishing is 4-6 hours away. I'll fish the southern WI, IL, and IN lakes when the opportunity arises, but it's not the same. It's a good place to try new lures and keep your casting skills honed. It's enjoyable, because its fishing after all. But I've caught enough skinny 30" fish where that's really not what I am after. Eagle... Well, last year we had a day where we had probably a dozen fish up that were over 50", with two that would be a trophy in anyone's book. When you ask: "how many 50's do you think we saw today?" And everyone in the boat has actually lost track? It's difficult to be excited about fishing ion a place where a "good day" is one where someone in the boat got a 32". If smallmouth got as big as muskies? I'd never go muskie fishing again. |

Location: Pickering, ON | Enough to buy a place somewhere like Costa Rica, along with a 30-40' boat and all the gear necessary to start up a charter business. I've already started making my sales pitch.
I could easily give up Muskies to do that, along with never having to endure another off season and Canadian winter.

| I would assume him to be saying that he wants all of you to be paid off, leaving more fish for me out there to catch. No waiting in line on the popular waters, the fish would all be in predictable spots, and they would grow large!! Lures would become cheap because nobody but me would buy them,
I know what he's REALLY hinting at though... I think it just goes to show that many enjoy the sport, but also realize there are many many other things to enjoy than just this one fish. I, on the other hand...I just couldn't do it... I'll take the money though...to help enhance the stocking on the lakes I fish...
