Posts: 63 | What a way to end the year! Its been the best year ever for big fish in my boat. I had back to back casts in July with a 54.5 and 55 and countless other 50"+ fish through out the summer months. This fall was unreal with a streak of 9 fish in a row that hit the bag were all over 50". It seemed for awhile there that one of my clients in the boat were calling Rick Lax for a replica just about every day! And then on November 9th with client Eric Stiffelman I boated a 57x27 on a pounder bulldawg. The fish completely swallowed the pounder and had one of the hooks burried to the shank under the tongue. With a little surgerey I was able to get all hooks out but she was bleeding like a stuck pig. We took a quick board measurement 2 quick pics no girth measurement and put her back in the water. She swam off but continued to swim circles with her head out of the water for about 3 minutes and then went belly up and was totally dead. We went over scooped her back up and put it in the livewell and drove to a local resort where we measured and girthed her at 57x27 and weighed 52lbs on a certified scale. I feel terrible that it died but unfortunately when you handle as many fish as I have your going to have some mortality. It just sucks it had to happen with such a huge fish. Wow, what a pig! it stinks that the fish died, but great big sharp hooks are going to do that at some point. the upside is that it confirms just how accurate the formula can be...a 57x27 is 51.94 lbs by formula and this fish went 52 lbs on a certified scale. is Rick Lax mounting the fish and thereby able to make a form for future fish this size? | |||

| I am impressed, when Gelb's fish died, or someone posted a fish in the big fish contest that might have been dead, all heck broke loose. Good to see you folks are growing up and not worrying yourselves over a dead fish....BR | |||
