Posts: 909 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I caught this beautiful Walleye today on the river I guide on in PA! The Youghiogheny River! She measured 35" and 16 lbs! The only reason I killed this fish was because I truely beleived that it was a state record! (17.4lbs) Hell, I thought it was a world record ! (LOL) I would have bet the ranch that it was over 20+ lbs. I took it to a certified scale and it was 16.1 lbs. Still a trophy anywhere in the world! I beleive this is the same Hawg that followed my lure 2 yrs. ago! She ate a Walleye Phantom on a rock pile in 8 ft. of water! When I was admiring her in the net I thought to myself, This must be what it feels like to put a good 50+" Muskie in the net! The Muskies didn't show today but it was still a "Great Day"! BTW..Youghiogheny is pronounced Yock-O-Gay-Nee Brian

![]() Posts: 210 Location: VA | Amazing fish....Think of how many years of great spawning that baby had! Millions of eggs over the years. Keeping that fish at it's age won't hurt the resource one bit. Honor that baby at the dinner table and think of her often. What a grand fish! Congratulations!!! DR

Don't apologize for keeping the fish. Its spawning days probably ended long ago. I don't fish for walleyes, but have been on the Yough for other things. I don't want to hit your place, but could you say what stretch of the river you caught this monster on?

Posts: 688 Location: Northern IL | What a great walleye, and no need to be concerned about taking such a brute. As already stated her productive days are behind her. Put her on the wall and be proud that you were the lucky one to catch it. The taxidermist should be able to determine it's age. Edited by jerryb 11/6/2010 8:20 PM

Posts: 1060 Location: Medford, WI | Brian, like Jerry stated above...I would say catching this walleye is more similar to catching a musky that is 55"+. I don't have any experience with fish that big, but I've caught a few over 50 and I'm pretty sure I'd rather catch that walleye than a musky that just makes the 50" mark. Congratulations...amazing fish! -Jake Bucki

Posts: 909 | Hey Guys, Thanks for all the nice replies! I am going to put her on the wall so she can be admired for years. That fish deserves it! If I knew she wasn't going to make the books she would still be roaming the river today! I will put a good scale in my boat so this never happens again. The scale will also be large enough that a Muskie can be weighed on it too! I wouldn't be able to sleep if this were a "potential record muskie" and I kept it for personal gain and it didn't qualify! It may sound like I'm being alittle hard on myself but this is a very small river that seems to be declining a little more each year! (Thanks to the million canoers from ALL the local outfitters) I would like to see my Kids enoy it for a long time as well! Once again thanks to all and Keep throwin' em back! "It works"!
