Posts: 697 Location: Minnetonka | Thanks to Muskie First and Rick Lax for an amazing reproduction of my personal best, 55.5" muskie from Vermilion. After seeing the quality of Lax Taxidermy, I'm really looking forward to catching one bigger. Also forgot to thank John Hoyer for putting the boat in position to catch her... and for leaving that cast for the guy in second water. Catch 'em, Andy

Tremendous Fish and beautiful replica! Just one question though, and I know that pictures dont do just, but did you get a girth measurement on the fish? For some reason, when I look at the pic of the replica and compare to the live pictures it seems the replica is much girthier. Could be perseption. I have no idea how replicas are made, and I am not trying to imply the guy didnt do a great job because it is striking how nice it looks.

I didn't girth it. But I know the replica has a 25" girth. It also doesn't help that the pic of the replica was taken at an angle.

Posts: 243 | Awesome fish and great mount. I laughed out loud when I saw a comment questioning girth. Seriously??? On that fish? Unbelievable!!! And it's not just on this thread, it's all over on the forum. Someone caught a fish bigger than you. It happens. I'm amazed at the number of people on here who have "girth envy"---seems like a lot of sleep has been lost in the last year worrying about how heavy another guy's fish was after he posted it. I would imagine a lot of people aren't even interested in putting a picture up on this website with measurements because they're going to be questioned. Hey, if somebody says they caught a 40 pounder and it was really only 37, they're only lying to themselves or going by the formula. But you can't tell by looking at the picture on fish that are reasonably close. I don't care who you are or how many you've caught. Obviously, if somebody says it's a 60+ pounder, it deserves to be questioned. LGG/800 formula is an estimate anyway; fairly accurate most of the time, but, as Pete Maina once said, one good meal or one good poop can swing a lot of pounds quickly on big fish (Musky Chronicles III by Eli Singer). Anyway, congrats on a monster Andy. I don't know you, but I'll take your word for it that fish was that big. Edited by IM Musky Time 10/9/2010 11:30 PM

Nice job. I've seen his work from fishing the Frank Scheinder Jr. memorial tournament as where the largest fish gets a replica made. Caught 2 in the tourny but two small to register. Caught them on Child lake in Longville MN. Good for you. I've muskie hunted for 5 years now still waiting for the big one. Lost a 50" plus at boat side on Mille lacs Wakon bay. Almost took an eye out of my partner as the fish rolled and the tension on the line I actually pulled the hook out of the mouth and almost struck my partner. Good ridence. Rob Steele. If your comments are pointed toward my post, I wasnt QUESTIONING the girth at all, it just seemed to me as I looked at the photo that the replica was larger than the fish in the pic. Im sure it was a perception thing. I was merely asking if that was provided to the taxidermist to make the replica is all. That is a tremendous fish no matter how you look at it and the replica looks great.

Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | Not to hijack the thread but I too just received my mount from LAX. It's not a giant like Hammski's but a 51 for this California boy had to go on the wall. All I can say is that of all the mounts I have (only a few pictured)... the LAX replica is by far the most impressive. Beautiful work Rick! Thanks for allowing all of us the chance to relive the moment. Attachments ---------------- LAX.JPG (287KB - 739 downloads)

Awesome replica Andy!! A mount like that just puts a smile on a guys face when you are walking out the door to work looking back at it saying to yourself, "Dam that thing is big!" I would have to agree with all of you that Rick does amazing work. Would also like to share a pic of our mounts we just got back from Lax as well. Two GB fish from last fall that bro and I boated. Also would like to note how stunning Rick matched the paint jobs to the actual fish. Colors, patterns, everything! These two fish are out of the same water and were completely different looking and he match them incredibly realistic to a tee to the real photos. Sweet fish Andy!
