Got a floater report..... maybe it's slow because the fish are dead... Seen floaters out there this weekend, not cool.. C'mon... With water temps as cold as they are, these fish should not be dying if they're released properly. Healthy fish too, the fish pictured did not look very sick to me... Some of the stuff you see on the Bay is laughable. When all 3 guys in a boat feel the need to pass the fish around for pictures, when is it enough. Seriously, it's a fish. Take it out of the net, take a picture and put it back in the friggn water. Attachments ---------------- floater.jpg (77KB - 119 downloads)

Posts: 152 Location: Nowhere near where I should be | The mouth looks pretty clean on that side, was there evidence of it being caught? Just curious. See floaters out there every year, it happens, #*^@ shame.

I will have to agree MuskyFix and Esox Hunter. Slow was the word, for us at least. Fished all day Sunday with only one short rip. A ton of floating grass blew in with the north winds over the past few days prior made it tough keeping baits/boards running clean. Seen a upper 40" fish boated Friday before the winds kicked in. Pressure was pretty typical but it will get heavier and heavier as the days go on here.

Posts: 1037 | Was up Wednesday and Thursday. Buddy got a 41 on Wednesday. I got a 42 on Thursday. Fat fish. Man, that is tough fishing. Can't say that I'll be back anytime soon. I did hear that Brett Jolly got a 60 incher on Wednesday. If so, congrats Brett!

Posts: 1037 | I did hear from another guy that it was a sturgeon. But, we had friends fishing nearby who saw Brett catch a big fish. They thought it was a musky. Who knows. I believe it is was a ski that large, we'd see a picture somewhere.

Posts: 572 | Wow, I hope it is true that Brett Jolly caught a 60 incher. If so, I bet it was in the area where we trolled on 9-27. That's when I was fortunate to join Ronnie Ring, Jr, who won the day trip with Captain Brett Jolly from the Tyrant Lures contest. What a day, considering everything. Of course, Ronnie caught the only muskie, a fat 46". That was one of the 6 hits we had. There were 2 hits that were really disappointing. The last one was by the far the "one that got a way". I wish I could have taken a picture of Brett's face at the time the fish got off. His expression and eyes told the story. That fish was huge. Yep, that fish along with info we picked up created our desire to return to Green Bay next year. That guide trip was my first trip ever with a guide. I was impressed with Captain Jolly's equipment and how he handled every detail. I can see the benefits of fishing with a guide, especially the first couple of times to acquire basic information that a lot of fishermen miss out on. Anyone wanting to fish with a guide, whether it is for muskie or other fish, I highly recommend Captain Brett Jolly. http://www.captainjollycharters.com/ And, don't forget to look at what Tyrant Lures have to offer, especially the bucktails they are coming out with. Of course, I'm a big fan of the top water Crusader, as well as, many of the other lures. http://www.tyranttackleinc.com/ Edited by Muskie Bob 10/8/2010 2:41 PM

Fished last night 5:00-10:30 no luck. Tried as deep as 26 fow to as shallow as 3-4 fow. We knew the fishing has been tough but we thought we would try night fishing. Water temp was anywhere from 56.8 to 58 degrees. Some floating weeds, but not bad.

Posts: 25 | A little rough out this morning, weeds are not as thick temps staying warmer with this mild weather. Boated this 50" today on a Tyrant Tackle 7" Czar Crankbait. After the picture and a quick measurement on the board she took off like a bunker buster chasing the Taliban......... KRP Attachments ---------------- muskie first.jpg (187KB - 121 downloads)

What's up with the Bay? Talk about a slow bite. We have logged 80+ hours in the last week and have nothing to show for it. Bait is good, temps are good, but the fishing is far from that! Has this place peaked?

Posts: 25 | Your not the only one logging in a lot of hours for nothing! I'd say its best days are behind her and if I didn't live here I wouldn't fish it... There's big fish out there though.

Posts: 956 Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | With the crazy record low pressure and strong west winds of a week ago, we, in chicago, heard reports of the water levels in the bay down as much as two feet. The water literally pushed to the east. Haven't heard/read any fishermans observations/reactions to this weather phenomenon. It surely couldnt have been good for fishing. Anyone care to comment????

Know any guides up there that will be truthful with you?? I do, guys that helped me learn how to fish up there---They will tell you it has peaked and is on a downward trend. Now that funky weather we had may have messed things up also--But the best years are behind her--Tons of pressure have moved some fish off their typical spots--floaters are much more common as the catching and handling of fish has had an impact--Years of no stocking I am sure due to the VHS scare. AND Tons of fishing pressure over the last few years has definately had an impact. Yes there are still BIG FISH out there and always will be--But it is not like it use to be--We just recently spent 3 Days ( nice stable weather) fishing 10 hr days and never had a rip--only heard of 1 fish actually put in the boat. That has never happen to us before -- and while it has been slow before--Nothing to this extent---There were 20+ boats out there at this time and I can tell you--Nothing was being caught. I will go back but I miss the good ole days out there and I believe along with a few who have made their living up there for years-- that fishing for the green bay muskies will be much tougher from here on out.

Posts: 272 | I take it you weren't around earlier this fall when guys would go 5 for 6 just trolling for a few hours after work. The Bay and river go in spurts like this every year. At some point each fall, any dummy with 3 baits trailing behind can go out there and look like a pro. Part of the equation right now is the sheer amount of shad. Not just talking immediate warm water areas near the discharges. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. So, the real question is.......if you were at a snickers bar buffet, and you stuffed yourself with snickers bars......what would you eat when you were full of snickers bars??? You'd eat nothing. Peaked.....maybe. Maybe not. Kinda like saying Brett Favre is done.....eventually you'll be right of you say it long enough. But I am nervous. Almost all the fish I've heard of being caught out there are mid/upper 40" fish or beyond. What happened to all those sub-30" fish that were caught last year during the tournament. The large amount upper 40" fish right now are part of that great stocking class from '01-04, specifically 02-03, I believe. Once they're gone, there's not a whole lot coming behind it to take their place. On guides, all I'll say is that they're businessmen. You put your best foot forward, you get the positive message out. But you need to accept the message with a certain level of consciousness. On the water levels dropping with the big front, as someone who was on the water Mon-Tues-Wed that week, 4 feet is more like it. -Eric Edited by muskie-addict 11/8/2010 11:11 AM

Eric-- I have seen all the shad out there--seems like more than usuall--and I hope that you are right on the fact they they are just feeding well so they are harder to catch---And yes--I have experienced great days out there with my best being 6 in the boat in 1 day. But I also have seen and heard of almost no fish under 40 inches---and they did have like 5 years of no stocking so there is going to be some lean years ahead--so past it's prime I think is true--But maybe not forever--get the stocking going and I am sure with all the forage it will come back---the guides I am talking about are full time guides who guide for all species up there---You would know their names but I don't want to repeat what they heve told me--They never said not to repeat it but they do make their living out there so it's up to them if they want to spread their message---But All have said the musky fishing has been heading in a downward trend for a couple years-- so I have to believe what they are telling me. All I know is I really love the fishing in the bay itself--from the north end to the south----If the Muskies are fewe and farther between so be it-- ther are many species out there I enjoy catching so I am still a big fan of the BAY. I should be back 1 more time before the season closes so I am hoping for 1 shot at a Monster0--If not I will be back in April for some walleye fishing!!!!!
