Posts: 720 | I'm probably going to be laughed off of this site. But here it goes. Windell's Muskysnack in the shallow runner. I have caught more fish on that little bugger. Cast twitch twitch let it rest. Twitch twitch let it rest. I know its sound simple and it is. Some of the coolest strikes come on the bait breaking the surface on the rise. That is what I've been doing for years and its kind of fun to watch.

Posts: 1023 | i have found that the first early fall cold front really gets em going - anyone else? It can be like a warning that they better get busy before winter gets here. Then again, patterning muskie is just plain frustrating - which is why it is so fun. Landry

I'd have to agree with Muskie03 - I like my mantas. Not as erratic as a HH or wabull but they sure catch fish.

Big Games Twitch bait. Reason: there's a lot of options on how to retrieve it. When worked with short, slow twitches, it's almost a towater. I can pull a little harder and get it just under the surface most of the time. I can use a straight retrieve, fast or slow. Well...you get it. While a lot of fish may get negative after a cold front moves in, not all of them will. If I'm limited to just one bait, I want one that can give me several options.

Posts: 8788 | I'd recommend anything that you can get right in front of them, and anything you can work SLOW. Erratic gliders, walk the dog surface baits, soft plastics... I'll still throw bucktails just to see if I can find a hungry one, but more often than not, slow presentations seem to be best. I still struggle with slow, especially when you throw in 2-3 second pauses, but that seems to be what it takes some days. Edited by esoxaddict 9/7/2010 11:07 AM

>if you had to pick one bait to throw all day under an early fall cold front what would it be?????< Well, that's the beauty of owning multiple lures, now isn't it? We don't have to pick just one.

Lee Lure Chopper was the hot bait this weekend. Went through all of the baits in my boxes and that one accounted for all the muskies minus one active fish that I got on the Creepenstein.

If water temps are in the mid 60's and it's before/during the front I'd be throwing a Topraider. If it's post-front and clearing I'd go with the dawg.

Posts: 829 Location: Maple Grove, MN | Small tandem CJs spinner baits. Catch rate has been one fish every 2.5 hours for the past month with much of the time in cold front conditions.
