I was on a central MN lake Friday and was amazed at how warm the water temp was. 83 degrees. Never have seen it that high on this lake. I saw two floaters, no idea what killed them so it would be speculation on my part that it had anything to do with water temps. With temps in the 90's forecast all week it will surely be higher by the weekend. I did spend some time in the water, and diving down about 10 feet you could feel a noticeable change in the temp, but it was like a bath tub the first 10 feet.

Steve, thin out those voracious bluegills. I was being ravaged by them while trying to flounder around in the water last week. Those little buggers are relentless, biting every bit of exposed skin I had. Not safe to swim in the water with those things. LOL

Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | I'm glad I'm not fishing for the next two weeks. I usually fish by myself and my times from net-pic-release are longer than when I have anopther guy in the boat... I'd feel terrible killing one. My Nephew + Gills = fun time!

Posts: 2361 | We had 110 indexes last week down here, and going back up again. Nice thing about WI, it can turn around in just a few days and be perfectly fishable again. I usually take June July and August off from musky fishing. I think of it as my "winter".

Posts: 32892 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | It's 87 in Rhinelander right now, and forecast to be that warm or warmer until Friday. I'll be cooking under the South Dakota sun at the South Dakota Walleye Classic webcasting an Anglers Insight Marketing event Thursday to Saturday, then in Brainerd Monday meeting with Lindner Media...so no fishing for me either way. The temps were in the high 70's the last few trips, and hit 80 degrees during my guide trip last Thursday on Moen. (Man is THAT lake dark with all the run off right now from the heavy rains, looks like strong coffee) With the 90 degree temps and warm nights, it'll take some serious thundershowers to keep the temps down.

What I do when the temps are this high is fish the rivers. Water temps are cooler and the fishing really turns on in July and August.

Depends on what part of musky country you fish....surface temp in the northern most part of the musky range could be 80* at the surface, but in the 70's just a few inches below the surface. Now in the southern range where hot temps stay around for so long, you could fish waters that top 80* the first few days or so,but have to quit due to 80* going deep as 15-20ft below the surface since hot weather will be around for a while....kinda scary down here right now for any species of fish.It been mid 90's for at least a month down here

Posts: 56 | Yes it's warm now but check out the temps for next week. They are going to fall dramatically, into the 60s in Minnesota and Canada. That should bring things down.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Interesting. They haven't been that warm here in the Stone Lake/Hayward area. The mid sized lakes I have been on were around 76-77 for the most part this weekend. I'm sure today heated the surface temps up temporarily. HOT today. curleytail

The Surface temp was 83 degrees on the lake I was on, but when I was in the water and dove down to about 10 feet it was considerably cooler. I would say probably 10 degrees even. Just a guess, no temp gauge, but it felt soo much cooler.

On Leech Lake yesterday - 82.8 surface temp on the main lake, 81ish in Walker, Bay. 83.5 yesterday morning on a smaller lake south of town. Loons grouping up already in Walker Bay in groups up to 40 birds already. Water temps on the lakes I fished last week around Vermilion Bay, Ontario, all around 73 following a pretty heavy cold front and hail storm which occurred early in the week - north winds all week. Posts: 221 Location: Detroint Lakes, MN | Since fish are in the net, un-hooked and then revived in the top of the water column, how cool is it several feet down doesn't really matter. All our MI league nights have been cancelled since last week until water cools down in here in central MN. Temps over 80 degrees on Big Detroit and Pelican. Some floaters have been found lately.
