Location: Northern Wisconsin | Any one have some suggestions for campgrounds on a good Northern Wisconsin action lake? Trying to plan a trip for the end of August and I'm trying to stay as cheap as possible so I figured camping would be a good option. As of now, I only have a couple places in mind but I'm open to go anywhere.

Location: Northern Wisconsin | Is it a pretty quiet lake? I will be towing a boat for the first time as well and I'm not sure if I want to be launching and relaunching to different lakes LOL. Would rather put in a lake and stay for a week. |

Location: Des Moines IA | Lake George isn't a week long stay kind of lake. It's pretty small, and pretty close to Rhinelander. I wouldn't want to stay at one lake myself all week though. Too many good options in Northern Wisconsin. I'd be picking lakes depending on weather conditions. I can't think of any big lakes that have camping on them off the top of my head? |

Location: Madison, WI | Check out the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Camping on the islands is free, first come first serve. We have been up there in early June and never had too many issues getting a site. Not sure how busy it is in August. |

| Turtle Flambeau Flowage is definately not a numbers body of water. There are definately good fish in there though. And in a weeks time you aren't gonna fish all the water available so that might appeal to you....Get a good map or a navionics chip for the locator. Navigation can be hazordous if you dont know your way around.(sometimes even if you do) The water levels have come up considerably but it is still 2' down...
Maybe try Smith Lake County Park on the Flambeau River(by park falls). Decent chances at multiple fish with the occasional big girl.
Day Lake and Mineral Lake are a couple other options for action waters...Although a week stay on any of these may be a bit much because they are small waters...
Solberg Lake in phillips would be another good option.. Considered a numbers lake but chances at some nice fish as well.. And a very nice campground...

| I used to stay with my kids on Lake George when they were little and don't recall it being any sort of a musky lake but do recall it being really tiny. Most places in Wisconsin don't allow you to just pull your boat up to a shore and set up camp, but in Upper Michigan waters, I have done that often and think you can stay up to two nights with no permit or fee on state owned shoreline--at least nobody ever said anything. Last, I suggest you get the trailering monkey off your back by forcing yourself to go to a different lake every single day. By the end of the week, you will feel like a pro and get rid of the embarrassed look that people have who hold up the works while trying and failing to back their rigs. And I have only launched a boat once or twice with my parents help. This will be my first time trying to launch alone. I know it's not rocket science but I have no practice lol. |

| Kentuck has a nice camp ground. All around good fishery, smallies, walleye, tigers. I think you can leave your boat in if you get a lake side site. Not sure on the prices. |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | There are a lot of State owned, and National Forest campgrounds in Vilas. As far as numbers waters go everyone has a different idea of what that means. Get the right pattern on any lake and you could put several fish in the boat every day. Some lakes will give you lots of follows, but few hitters, and other will give you few followers and several hitters.
I would also suggest getting over the backing the trailer up phobia. The only way you are going to get better is by doing it over and over. I would suggest that if you are that worried about it just let other load/launch ahead of you. That way you won’t get as flustered and feel bad about holding anyone up. Besides if you are up over the week you will deal with few people launching when you are. I wouldn’t suggest having to get to a new lake everyday, but you may want to add in one or two others during your trip to keep things interesting and exciting.

| Why dont you just drive a few hours farther and staying in the Chippewa National Forest in MN and pound Cass/Winni/Leech?
Lots of camping available and you are right in the heart of muskie country. |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | I second Travis on getting over the trailer phobia. I started towing myself with no one helping me and the only way to do it is to learn. If you really are that concerned then maybe the best thing to do is practice in a wide open parking lot with cones....If not, the lakes mentioned to you in Wisconsin will hardly have busy launches and you will figure it out. You gotta learn somehow....

Don't worry about it. Everyone was there at one time or another. When I started out it would take me 5-10 minutes without anybody at the landing and if there were people I was holding them up it was 10-15 because I'd get nervous. After time it just gets easier.

| Big Lake, Boulder Jct (County Rd K). Great Lake with a state park campground. If the muskies are slow during day, take a break w/ some dandy smallies. Can easily trailer to Crab, Wildcat Lake (numbers), and others. |

| I'll second Smith lake county park (park falls) and Solberg lake county park (phillips) there both easy lauches and very nice campgrounds and as long as you get a site on the water you should be able to keep your boat in the water.
The other nice thing is they both have showers and if your camping with a girl this is a must. Both have good number's and a chance at a nice fish.
As far as launching take it easy your on vacation we've all been held up or have held people up somebody pulls in behind you let them go first eventually you'll have that launch to yourself and just take your time

| Lynn Ann's Campground on Big St Germain is nice. They have their own little lagoon for launching your boat along with camp sites that let you pull your boat right up to your site. Big St has some nice musky and walleye in it along with some nice northern and panfish fishing in the smaller connected lakes (Content and Fawn Lakes). Good luck.

Yes. you should be able to get campsite on the water mid-week.
just google smith lake county park wi. it will take you to the price county site then click on camping all the info you need is there.
It will also give you some other places to camp.
Hines park (park falls) has water sites and that part of the river is good also.

| I can't believe nobody has mentioned the lake tomahawk public campground. The minocqua chain is an incredible fishery, I grew up fishing gin clear big tom but the the options are limitless. Little tom, Big Tom, Mid Lake (mostly pike and very weed choked), minocqua, and kewagasaga are all connected by navigatable water. The lake tom campgrounds have a beautiful landing and they do offer lakeside sites where people anchor their boats at their site. The lake(s) can get busy on the weekends but during the week you'll have it to yourself. Plus there are a ton of area lakes that are great lakes to fish within 15/20 min. Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | Wow I also would think about Minocqua and Tomahawk. Great fishing and a couple of real good places to chow down as well. Stingrays for a burger, Red Steer for dinner, Thirsty Whale for their fish fry. Man when do we leave. |

| Check out the WI state forest campgrounds. There are several in Vilas county with quite a few on musky lakes. Last year it cost us $12. a night, on the water, with a hot shower just a 3 minute walk down the road. Enjot!! |

Location: minocqua, wi. | if you choose the minocqua chain there is a boat rental called Wave Rentals located conveniently across from the Thirsty Whale with a few boat selections that should suit your needs regardless. Jeff is a good guy ... they rent quality stuff Yamaha-powered.
you can pick either the State Campground (but have to reserve or check in at the Clear Lake station) or a full-service Campground (Indian Shores) ... Indian shores has restaurant, bar, nice-clean showerhouse and a private launch. it's a quality place run by great people ... power and water on the sites with all facilities is a little higher price but sometimes worth it.
the state camground facility is outstanding ... check for availability ... waterfronts can be tough, but there's a beach too to pull up if you bring your crud back to the tent.
good luck, great choice ... i love Lake Tom and the whole chain. 30 minute run from top to bottom Kewaguea to Little Tom ... with lots of water in-between. good for musky fishing and lots of multispecies options as well. if you need advice, just stop into Rollie and Helen's and they'll help you out too.
