Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Do you have the most recent update? You should have the 2.5 update on that unit. What are the problems your having? I'm guessing your having a hard time getting shallow water depth readings?

Posts: 512 | No, i think i did the update, had that problem too. seems to lose my place when moving slow. not accurate at all... frustrating when your trying to stay on breaklines and such..

Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | My 334c did/does the same thing. Some days are worse than others. I did the update, and if anything (aside from adding some un-needed menu options), it got a bit worse. My GPS position error is rarely less than 100' now. Today, over 2.5 hours, there was more time that I didn't have a signal than time that I did. At one time during the morning, it had me positioned up on the road, about 400 yards west of where I actually was casting, doing 16 mph - so it's good for a laugh now and then. It was cloudy, so I guess the satellites were having trouble reaching me... Depth readings have never been a problem. The sonar works fantastic, the GPS has been marginal at best. S. Location: Green Bay, WI | The 520c unit I have loses position noticeably more often than the LCX-38c right next to it. I have a separate antenna for each, so I think it's the unit. I think the higher-end Lowrance units seem to process more satellites than the lower-end units do...which makes sense of course. I've never done a firmware version upgrade on either of the units though, and they are both three years old. Now that I just got the Navionics Gold card and the NavPlanner2 application (with a card reader), I'll have to get myself a blank SD card and upgrade the firmware this year. TB

| Also these units have to be updated every year, theres software out all the time for these units. Give it a few more years lowrance will be untouchable. If you ask me there units are beyond everyone else. Paul | |||

Posts: 512 | Update your antenna? You mean get a new one? Hope not, paid plenty for it and its not that old, should work fine right out of the box. Its mounted on my front deck.. I will see if there are anymore updates available, but it shouldnt need those to operate like they state it will. Dave Edited by Dave T. 5/22/2010 8:48 PM

Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | The GPS on my 520c quit working altogether a week ago. I do have the updated 2.5 version but it doesnt' make any difference. No matter where I am the screen shows me at the Pewaukee launch. That must be where it quit. The latitude and longitude just keep flashing also.

Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | Thanks Dave T, This is driving me nuts. I pulled the deck up in the driveway today to inspect all the wiring to the fuses. I found one spot in the wire that was bent pretty tight so I cut it out thinking it may have broke. I spliced it back together and it's still the same; not working. I guess I'll have to get comfortable and prepare for another eternity on hold and wait for a tech at Lowrance. Edited by fish hawk 5/23/2010 7:56 PM

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | fish hawk, how long have you owned your 520? I'm betting your puck has gone bad. GPS pucks don't last forever, they do go bad. Try hooking up your unit to someone elses gps puck, if it doesn't work with someone elses, then it's the unit, if it works with someone elses, then your puck is bad. Also, what do you mean you cut one spot out? Which wire did you cut?

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Dave T, watch this video, follow as instructed. I'm betting these settings will fix your shallow water depth reading problems. Here is the link: http://upload.outdoorsfirst.com/watch.asp?id=1053

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | That's part of the issue. I would set your unit using those settings. I had the same issues your describing and once I adjusted it, it stopped. First I had to have the 2.5 update, which you have from the sounds of it. I would try this. If that doesn't work, I'll bet your transducer is bad. Try your unit on someone elses boat if you can.

Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | TJ, I've had the unit for 22 months. I had no idea that the antennas wear out. Do you have to get a new one directly from Lowrance? If so do you have any idea how much they cost? The part I cut out was a 2" section of the antenna power cable. It had a bad kink and I though one or more of the three wires inside the cable had broke. It is a black cable containing one 18 gauge red wire, one 18 gauge black wire, and one unshielded silver ground wire. When I found out that wasn't the problem I reconnected them using crimp on connectors with shrink tube.

I'm guessing you messed something up in the power cable when you cut it. I'd buy a new power cable before I bought a puck and try that first.

Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | I cut the cable after the problem started. I just did that yesterday. I thought the kink in the cable was the problem, but it wasn't. Nothing has changed.

The kink still could have been the problem, I'd try to borrow someone's power cord and puck and see if either fixes your problem before buying either.

Posts: 470 Location: Blaine, MN | I am having problems with GPS losing me as well, at higher speeds everything is fine, but when I slow down and drop the trolling motor it is constantly losing me, and as mentioned before i get the postion lost/position acquired beeps quite a bit. I read what someone posted about not having the puck mounted on the dash under the windshiled... since that is where mine is, does the windshiled creat that much interference, I run a single console with a slighlty tinted windshield. any help would be appreciated.

Move that puck and I promise your loosing position will stop, I had the same problem and I moved it and it stoped, I later found out through lowrance that the winsheild blocks your signal. Try to mount it to the top off the windsheild or the front of the boat.
