| With all of the different choices in line available to us today, how do you decide what line to use? I currently use Cortland Spectron and I like it but am I missing out by not trying other lines? I use it because, many years ago, someone told me I should use it and the fact that it has never failed me isn’t a bad reason either. I guess I am asking what line you guys are using and why. I know the saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” but I am curious what your opinions are. |

Can't ever say Steve isn't honest, lol!  I've been using Cortland Masterbraid the last two or three years and have been happy with it. Casts well, doesn't hold much water, is quiet through the guides, doesn't give me backlash problems, and seems to hold up well.
I've used Spiderwire Stealth a little and it seems pretty good too. The Viscious sounds pretty good too.

| Perhaps I should have elaborated a bit. I was really impressed with the rep and the product when we were introduced last year. The 100# is a really tight braid, holds color well(fish don't care) and is smooooooth as silk. I wouldn't use/promote ANY product just because it's free. If I don't believe in it, I won't use or promote it. That being said, I used Masterbraid for a couple years but internal changes at Cortland landed me elsewhere. Liked the Masterbraid too. |

| used the Tuf line of products for about the 1st 10 yrs ...then switched to Stealth, 80 lb..then got some Cortland Masterbraid bronzeback to try and have switched all reels to that...I prefer the lines that don't have the waxy coating like PowerPro does...I like the softer feeling lines and don't mind if they soak up a touch more water... to me the best I have used so far is the Bronzeback... hated Powerpro...
really they are all good lines imo ...just pick the one that you like the feel of. |

| I've tried lots of different lines over the years, and I have settled on Stren 100# Superbraid. It ties great knots, doesn't slip and doesn't soak my hands when I use it in the fall. Me like um!

| Power Pro 80# worked for me for years, then I started having problems with it and switched to Tuf-Line XP 80#. Haven't had any problems with the Tuf-Line XP yet. |

You'd think I was getting Jonesi's leftover spools from last year or something. ha ha I have 65, 80, & 100 power pro on various rods. I have some stren super braid (?) looks like 80 one a couple, and some Tuff line on a couple. More Power Pro than anything, but there for awhile I was buying the 1500 yd spools for 70$. So am guessing that's why. |

I started off with Power Pro... switched over to Tufline XP a year later... then halfway through the season, got a new reel so spooled it up with Bronzeback... then halfway last season, Fireline Braid... Out of the four lines... Fireline worked great for me, with Bronzeback close second, Tufline XP third and PP being the worst for me... |

| ran into a couple bad spools of line. i lost a couple cowgirls when i backlashed trying to fire casts into the wind, lost a bulldog on a lobbed cast that I accidentally engaged the spool, and lost a tyrant on another lobbed cast where the spool engaged. yeah, i know, it's not recommended to backlash or engage your spool during a cast but it happens and 80# test should not break in those situations. buddy lost a few lures the same way that summer. it was enough to get me to switch and i haven't had any problems with tuf-line xp yet.

I used some 65 lb that would snap on occassion on a backlash but the 80 and 100 hasn't failed me so for and that has been for 6 years with those pound ratings. My son willbe using 65 lb Tuffline this year as I didn't want too heavy of a rating for him on his smaller reel. I liked what Ihave seen of it so far and see how it goes this year with him and that line. |

| Last spring I had two new reels, one was spooled with PP at Rollie and Helen's, the other I spooled myself with PP. I have used Power Pro in the past with no problem. However, the line that I spooled myself threw off green color all over my new rod, my hands, the reel etc. I had to clean the level wind on the reel after a couple hours of casting because it was so "gunked up" with green waxy build up. The rod handle seems to be permanently stained green and my hands looked like I had been painting. Anyone else ever have this happen? |

| I use 8wt rio pike line...it works for the muskie flies, but I can also get away with using it for steelhead fishing as well....good all around line for pike and muskie with extras uses...BR |

Location: Davenport, IA | Well, I keep braid on a reel for at least a few years...maybe I'll flip it around in that time period. But I bought a 1200 yard spool of Tuff-XP and have been using it for years. There are better lines out there (hold less water) but the Tuff-XP is strong. |
