Well guys, we finished testing our new Shallow version of the Rippin Shad. Test lake was Indiana's Upper Long Lake. This lake was infested with stunted Bluegills and Muskies were stocked there at 5 fish per acre to control Bluegill numbers. Test day was April 14th on a Wednesday. Lure color tested Bluegill. Results were outstanding with over 20 fish engaging the lures and 6 fish hit the net on this brand new prototype.
Lure type: Shallow suspending crankbait
Length: 4 inches
Body: drop belly shad
Wood type: Cherry
Construction: .057 wire through
Lip : 1/8th poly carbonate
Weight: 1.5 ounces

Action is much like a S.S. Shad on the straight retrieve but this is a neutral weighted lure so it does not return to the surface for a long long time. It just stops after the twitch and stays in the strike zone. Muskies of every size were all over it. It worked great in super shallow to 10 feet of water. An angler can work this bait most any way as we found there is no wrong way to fish it. Twitch, crank, jerk, pause , slow fast it produces in every situation.

Here are a couple of pics of the fish and the lure. The big girls were spawning so we only got one over 40 inches that day but even the spawning females chased it out to the boat. All in all we are very happy with this new Shallow suspending crank. Mike and Michelle King Talonz Lures

Mike, I love throwing small lures all year, especially on pressured lakes or in tough conditions. Those are awesome looking lures as usual.

Yeah, that lure is sweet. I love that paint job. When will these be available? And how much are you asking for one?

Yea, I thought about making one in a 7.5 inch model and Ill probably just do it ha ha ha . The little ones are 16.99 each just like the cedar ones. This lure is is really tough though. Much tougher than the cedar ones. Cherry is hard wood. I have some coming available in a week and then I wont be able to build any more until mid June. Mike

Mike, I went fishless on my last trip, but it was a pleasure throwing those lures. You can twitch it, yank it, and everything in between. Mix it up and wait for action. The weighting is awesome and it will definitely get eaten as it rights itself and hovers there in one spot. Very good as usual.

Check this out, they catch bass too. ha ha ha . I had these two largemouths hit the lure at the same time. I landed both of them. Mike

I hope to get your lure done in the next two weeks. I have one of my pro staffers testing the weighting all of next week. I will be throwing one myself this coming weekend. I have 5 more blanks all sanded out and ready for lead. I know we are close with that lure. Mike

Im putting together a batch of 24 for this spring(2011). Most likely that will be it for those little guys. Cherry wood construction, .057 wire through , 302 stainless steel. Stainless steel 5h Worth split rings and eagle claw 375 hooks. They run about 6 inches down and suspend there. Very active little bait when twitched or popped. Can be straight cranked as well. Mike

I think you need to make a shallow version of your 7.5" Rippin Shad. Shad, Bluegills, Crappies.....muskies eat fish of that size and profile no matter where they live. Just my 2 cents. I don't mean to pile work on you, but that 7.5 is a sweet casting lure, and I think it needs a shallow-running brother.

So many lures and so little time. I agree, I need to build a shallow 7.5 incher. The deep 7.5 now has over 25-- 50 inch fish to its credit and 6 over 40 pounds. Others want me to build a 9 inch deep one ha ha ha . Im coming out with a 10 inch Deepthreat this summer AND AM WORKING ON A JERK BAIT SIMILAR TO A SQUIRRELY BURT BUT made from hard wood. My website is so old it doesnt even have 4 of our new lures on it yet. I need a secretary ha ha ha . Mike
