Posts: 146 Location: where the fish are... | i tape my wrists from time to time, seems to help. also twist the rod on your release when you cast, alot less strain on your wrists which can cause those tendons to hurt.

| I had a version of that. It was on the outside of both elbows. Basically, you have to stop whatever you are doing that caused the problem. I got it from laying 12" block, and it hurt for quite some time. Eventually, it healed, but it took over a year to really heal itself. You can get those bands that tie around the area to alleviate some of the pain, but since they constrict the bloodflow, it suposedly takes longer for the injury to heal. Also, I'm pretty sure that area is weak now, so you really have to make a lifestyle change. You got it from fishing? | |||

Then go to the next aisle and buy a bottle of advil and a bottle of alieve . I would also try fine tuning your casting so they are more mechanical fulcrum type casts sloppy cast will just tear it up more . you might also try using the foregrip on the rod ? If there's a doctor that frequents these board, even they wouldn't try to diagnose your symptoms over a message board. I've had tendinitis, it's no fun and I'm glad I went to the Doc. to get it taken care of. S.

Posts: 4342 Location: Smith Creek | If it is Tennis Elbow, my physical therapist recommended R.I.C.E. Rest, Ibuprofen, compression, elevate. I can also mean ice, but that's seldom possible when fishing. Tendonitis is an inflammation so any non prescription anti-inflammatory that doesn't mess with your guts is effective.

Posts: 97 Location: Pickering, ON | Like sorenson said, go see a doctor. If it is tendonitis, lateral epicondylitis, or the like, think about other life causes too. I ended up with bilateral tenosynovitis in my forearms. The problem was not muskie fishing, which I do on weekends for 6 months a year. Rather, I sit at a desk all day, 5 days a week, and was spending almost all of that time leaning on my elbows and forearms - either on the desk or on the arms of the chair. I got rid of my arm rests and stopped leaning as much as I could, and while not 100% yet, I'm way better.

Location: Apple Valley | Have you tried taking some fish oil supplements? The last 3 years I got tennis elbow. Last year I got tennis elbow again and I was told to try fish oil. Started using the fish oil and my tennis elbow went away. I also work out 6 days a week and my joint pain went away. Brian

| >>I'm not a doctor in real life, but I play one on Muskiefirst.<< LOL! We're ALL make-believe doctors, weathermen, and psychologists here. Some of us are even 'ishing counselors'. :) But we do draw the line at giving relationship advice!
I've had the tennis elbow problem for years. If you go to a real doctor, you're going to get pretty standard advise on the first visit: take some anti-inflammatory meds (Advil), and use the elastic armband on your forearm below the offending elbow.

Posts: 941 Location: Freedom, WI | Had it off and on for years and most of this advice is what a doctor will tell you. Find the spot that the pain emanates from someplace on the elbow (doctor can tell you exactly where) and put ice on THAT spot, it is better then all over. Ice until it hurts and goes numb then do it longer a couple of times a day. Like said already get a band-it tendinitis band (wearing one write now), tried them all and it works the best. After it is better it needs to be strengthened and a therapist can show you how.

Posts: 39 | You can't do anything...besides muskie fishing I compete in amateur strongman, so you can believe what I put my body through. I have had tedonitis in my right elbow for almost 1 1/2 years now and nothing cures it. Basically just deal with it and ice it helps, ibuprofen helps but nothing will fully cure it. I've asked many people who have it and have seen docs about it and they tell them to rest and ice and it will help short term but not long term. Probably not going to make many friends by saying that but with all the research I've done and people I've talked to, just live with it and go on with life. It does hurt but oh well...

| First you need to have a doctors diagnosis on what you got going on it could be a combination of things. I had both Tennis Elbow and Golfers Elbow at the same time he sent me to Physical Therapy finally I got some relief from the problem. Don't forget use any of the recommended arm braces they really work. I ended up having to toss lighter lures and when I when my arm starts getting irritated I get on the anti-inflammatory's, rest my arm, and apply plenty of ice compresses to the sore areas. Hope this will be of some help to you. Scott M. | |||

Posts: 2332 Location: SE, WI. | The Omega fish oil is a good suggestion and good start Was watching Bill Dance once, and on his show, he showed an excercise that I now use. It seems to really help. It stretches the tendon out. Extend your arm straight out. Elbow locked. Now cock wrist upward with thumb outward from hand. Now rotate wrist like driving a car. Now same instructions but cock wrist downward, thumb down, and rotate wrist so thumb is facing up. You will have some pulling of tendon, but really seems to strengthen it. 5 reps in the mourn and 5 reps in the eve. Try it. Works for me. Very simple. The PT might give you this same excercise. Good luck!

Posts: 440 | I had it bad in both elbows one year. Basically had to quit casting and let it rest. I wore different bands, none worked. Went to two different chiropractors, that was the biggest joke, waste of money,I ever did see. Rest, ibuprofen/Aleave and a good long winter and I was better.

Posts: 40 Location: Canada, Eh! | i have medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow) from weightlifting. go see an ART (Active Release Technique Practitioner) and/or Graston Technique -- they are usually Chiros as well. It is helping me. anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen will get you through the pain but just mask it. tendinitis can turn into tendinosis and you shouldn't 'work through the pain'. tendinitis = inflammation of tendons, tendinosis = degeneration of tendons. Posts: 576 Location: Germantown, WI | ouch.... i really feel for you man! i had tendinitis in my right elbow from cranking on a chainsaw pullcord all weekend a few years back. it was debilitating and didn't go away for about 6 months. the braces didn't do much for me, and i really had to change how i did some things because of it, trying not to aggravate it. if i had any clue it was going to last as long as it did, i would have definetely gone to the doctor and seen if there was something they could recommend (physical therapy, injections, etc) to get me recovered quicker. Hope yours doesn't take as long to heal, my only recommendation is if it doesn't heal soon enough for you, get to the doctor

| I will second Boost on the ART (active release therapy) for tennis elbow. I spent every one of the dollars I had on my medical coverage on physio and the problem got worse as all they did was treat the symptoms. For 6 months of pain in the fall/winter and I was worried about the muskie season. I was skeptical about a Chiropractor but finally went. ART made the tennis elbow 50% better in 2 visits and was cured up and have never had a problem after 6 visits. Some of the visits were only 10 min. ART is the only way to go! | |||
