Trying to say this in the nicest possible way, but the first two episodes weren't all that great, IMO.

First was a tournament episode, second was short clips of fish caught on specific baits.....strokin' sponsors. Which I understand, gotta know where your bread is buttered. Totally understand that.

Definitely not big on the tournament coverage shows. I just frankly find them really boring. They take away from the one thing that Keyes really does better than everyone else, which is the "eye in the sky" start-to-finish catch footage until someone picks up the other camera. Between that and the F8 footage, that's really Keyes' best quality. Filming people measuring and posing with fish during tourneys is not overly stimulating.

I understand it's probably easy footage, near-guaranteed fish footage, etc., and provides for a good filler show once or twice in the rotation, but man are they boring. And the crew rarely catches much during them.

I disagree, I love the tournament coverage shows.

My favorite episode ever has to be the WI creek outing last year or two years ago...awesome show.

You know, I thought Keyes show was one of the best. I always looked forward to seeing it weekly cause they always did things a little different. But the last couple of episodes ( and a few from last year) have been very boring. I, personally, tune in to see the keyes crew catch fish, not see a bunch of dink fish caught by other tournament anglers. It's like a tourny show now. I found myself turning it off. I liked their old stuff like fishing the bad river in wisconsin and other unknown spots. Don't get me wrong I am not trying to bash them I personally just think they are going int he wrong direction with the show. I think they should go back to their "roots" and do it the way they used to. my$.02

I agree with the last few posts...not a big fan of the tourney coverage neither. The "roots" as one said, is where I'd hope they would return. Good action, very cool music and crazy attitude!
I do have that show (along with MH and Bucher) DVR'd, but I find myself deleting most of them now...I still watch a few of the good ones from last year though.

2nd show was nothing more than an infomercial imo. It has gone down hill.
Not a big fan of the camera work either. Couldn't Mike get a buddy to film him instead of the tripod thing and only one guy in the boat for that one show/segment? Use to be better produced imo.

The problem lies in that because of shows like this, there simply are not as many unknowns left to fish and promise good footage. I'd prefer they stick to the tourney footage, rather than the little unknowns, myself.

Full disclosure: I am a Keyes Outdoors pro-staffer. Tournament muskie fishing is, by nature, hard to cover. However, KO is the only outlet for the premier tournament trail in our sport, the PMTT. IMO that fact makes it "air-worthy". Tournament anglers and the PMTT love the coverage! That said, Mike is aware of the fact that its not for everybody and will be making large scale changes in his tournament coverage for the 2010 PMTT season! Also keep in mind that forums like this one do not fall on deaf ears! Please feel free to make suggestions about what you'd like to see and myself and others will do our best to pass them along to Mike! As for this season; stay tuned and you will see all the classic skycam and f8 footage that has continued to set Keyes Outdoors apart! Now that the business is taken care of some strong episodes are on tap...including a two-parter with fast action and BIG fish! riverski...I think there are a few episodes that should be right up your alley coming later in the season!

what would be nice is if these guys quit naming bodies of water on their episodes. what happened to the days when shows didn't say where they were out of respect for the fishery? but hey, what do these guys care, they're making a couple penny's and ruining fisheries! thanks fellas!

I personally think the show is kinda weak if you ask me. First off, it's clear that his cameras are no where near what Saric uses, that's quite obvious. That up in the air thing Keyes uses is in my opinion kinda stupid. Why? Well, you can't hear crap first off, secondly, when he does have a second guy in the boat, the guy steps in front of the camera and blocks the view for a bit, at least edit that part out better.

Ben, you mention how the tournament anglers like the PMTT coverage and the PMTT likes it to. My question is, what good does that do the sponsors of the show? Clearly, majority of people don't like it, you'd think he'd want to tailor his show to more of his audience, not just the few that tournament fish or the PMTT. But I get it, it's about the money or whatever relationship he has set with the PMTT.

I've watched the show over the past couple of years, I don't get what everyone is raving over. Bucher and MuskyHunter TV do a much better job. When Gillespie does do musky shoots, even with his grab the Frabill line that he says over and over is much better than this show. This show is waaaaaaaaay overrated, but it's better than some I've seen. Just my .02.

I agree with not naming waters but location in the country is nice. The little nobodys is the people that make this sport and it would be nice to see little guys on the show that make baits or guide, who's profiled and what baits used should not be only because of how bills are paid. I think if given the chance that some of these little guys might just be the big guys someday that pays the bills for you. Pro Staff was a little nobody at one time and now they promote products and TV show.

Welcome to America!!! If you do not like it don't watch it. I think it is one of the best as far as musky coverage. Mike is not going to ever please everyone.
Keep up the good work Mike

Cant stand the tourney episodes. I'd rather be asleep. Seriously, did we need to watch a 30" fish get measured?

Or was it 2 30" fish? I think it was 2. Really hope they catch the first over 40" next week or I might forget why I used to like this show.

I don't like the lake names either!

Keyes outdoors is awsome! I dont know why guys are complaining. Actually be happy that a muskie show is on tv to watch causes theirs not many on tv. Alot of work goes into makin a show. if ya dont like it dont watch it and go make ur own show.

not too many musky shows on tv,I work the weekends so don`t get to watch any of them unless they are repeats during the week. The last thing I`m gonna do is complain about a show,I have to buy the season dvd for musky hunter and I don`t think every episode is great, but worth watching ,just like the keyes. The keyes shows I`ve seen have been good, but haven`t seen many of them, any musky footage is great footage.

I agree Tournaments are very very boring, I agree with Jim Lang go back to shows with attitude and action and music with attitude. So many unknow rivers and lakes in WI, MN, and Canada to film and get back to what made them different.

Awesome, seriously? Like someone stated, watching 30 inch fish get caught by a boat that's 300 yards away or watching someone hold the fish up for the camera is so spectacular. Keyes doesn't hold a breath with Muskyhunter TV and Bucher. Heck, I'd rather watch the Badfish dvd's for the 283rd time, haha.

I enjoy Keyes Outdoors and look forward to it every week. From the Tourney coverage to Trophy Hunts it has it all. If I am not mistaken Keyes Outdoors has a longer running season where other shows only have ~12 new episodes a year.
Keep up the great work!!!

As for the "unpleaseables"... I am thinking the peanut gallery came out of hibernation a little early this year.

Actually, Gillespie has the most. A new show, every week. Now granted it's not musky related every week, but he definitely does more than Keyes!

You are correct "guest". There are more episodes and less musky coverage. Love it when a big fish makes Gillepsie SHOUT for joy!
