I know what the heck is this all about.

Well are there any 'factual' stories of Muskies/Pike biting swimmers and/or pets. And by pets I don't mean the pic of the cat swimming...but actual documentation of a dog get'n bitten by a Musky or Pike.

Out here in Utah there's all kinds of wild stories going around on the Tiger Muskies and Pike. I just roll my eyes and say fine...one less rec boater bothering the heck out of me.

But for my general education/knowledge (I've tried goggle searchs) can anyone provide me factual info on a Musky or Pike biting/attacking or whatever a human and/or pet? I'll be honest I've caught Pike as a kid and now Tiger Muskies and I've yet to find any factual inforamtion on this ever happening. I'm think'n if it has happened it's just one of those one in a tillion incidents.

So maybe some of you folks can help me on my fact finding mission on this topic. Thanks in advance for any and all 'factual' intel on this.

Sincerely,
K2

There was a Walleye (Zander)attack not long ago! I believe over seas. I think it bit like 16 swimmers or something like that! The fish guys had to kill it!

There was a muskie biting a person in a canoe about 5 yrs ago on WIS Governor Nelson State Park's Twin Valley Lake. He was dangling is feet in the water when the 36 inch muskie bit him. When it hapened he quickly brought in his feet and the fish came into the canoe when he did. Thinking he needed the fish to verify for any diseases, he kept it (under sized). This was a police officer from SW WI town. Had to have a bunch of stitches to close the wound. Tried suing the state for his medical bills and was denied. At 1st he got a ticket for keeping an under size fish but the charge were dropped. Later he was able to purchase the fish and have it mounted as the WDNR took the fish from him.

For the amount of people that swim in pike/muskie waters compaired to the amount that get bitten, you are more likely to get strick by lightning. Or for that matter get in a boating accedent. When muskies start eating people then I'll worry.

Catfish bite more people. Most attacks are handling injuries or folklore. I'm sure there are a few "attacks," but it's got to be very, very, rare.

I need the pic of the cat and the musky...omg.. I remember that! It would crack my gf up (or pss her off) because recently I told her the 2 new kittens on the house are so far on my bad side I was going to go throw them in the lunge ponds at Jim Pecks. I love animals...even cats but I was born and raised to love the lunge more so hey Where's that pic! And I know the Lunge family would attack a human or pet...atleast I think they would...hell they've chased me 50 yards inland on full moon nights

Muskies kill or maim several French Canadians a year out east. Most people don't know about it because the news reports are in French, and English speaking Canadians can't be bothered to do the translations.

It wouldn't surprise me if Utah muskies were fighting back as Sorno is out there catching them by the hundreds. He puts them back, but they can't stand the humiliation of his constant success.

IMO Sunfish are far more of a threat to humans
At my in-laws lake home, the kids don't want to ge in the water because them little things are like Piranahs off their dock (exaggerating a bit ... but they do bite very frequently). Been known to draw blood on a few occasions. Never had that problem with any other fish .... However my wife refuses to get into the water if she sees a large snapping turtle roaming the area.

My girlfriend still runs and screams when the gills and minnows are nibblin on her feet. I'm so banking on losing a nice rod and reel the day she has a pig roll over on her bait right next to the boat...she's gonna know why I am zoned in on what I'm doing in the boat...even on the way to the cabin :s Yeah, I already woke up in a panic months back...had a nightmare where she hooked into the one I was chasing for so long, screamed and threw the pole in the water at the same time. fml.

Hi Gerard,
That happened at Twin Valley Lake in Governor Dodge State Park near Dodgeville WI. Used to have the article from the paper hanging in my office along with some musky pictures. Really got people talking!

Don't think so ... it was my wife that was complaining about it, must have thin skin or that lake has a hybrid with teeth. I don't swim in the lake so no personal experience, I'm usually fishing on the water instead of swimming it.

However, holding any lure over the water, they frequently jump out fo the water trying to eat it. Experienced this casting cranks for bass/pike off the dock. I think they would try to eat just about anything .... too bad most aren't worth keeping for the diner table.

Man that was more than 10 yrs ago. Where did the time go???

Here is what Ken sent me. Thanks Ken & get well soon.

07/02/98- Dodgeville, Wisconsin (AP)- Dan Droessler, a policeman from Platteville, Wis., says he hauled in a 36 inch muskellunge that bit him on the foot. He was apparently dangling his foot over the side of his canoe while vacationing on Twin Valley Lake at Governor Dodge State Park. Floating along, he felt a bite on his foot, only to find a tiger muskie attached. He landed the 36-inch fish in his canoe. A local hospital used 60 stitches to close the wound.
Wait, the story gets better-
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources confiscated the fish, saying it’s not of legal size and that catching the fish with a foot is illegal. The fish was taken to a freezer in Dodgeville while Droessler is negotiating with the DNR about the pending charges.

BTW - it was a true muskie not a "tiger" muskie as stated in the story.

Here's one such story that was posted on the www out here.

I'm kinda think'n the owner of this thread is an avid TM angler maybe even Sorno.

Anyway whoever it may be I'm think'n wants to scare the B-Jesus out of rec boaters/swimmers as Pineview is a nightmare to Tiger Musky fish in the summer.

Trust me the pics I've shown co-workers et al of the Tigers we've boated...it's the same ole response....You've got to be kidding me!!! Pineview has those...I'm never again swimming, jet skiing, wake boarding or taking my family there again...GREAT!!!!!!! is all we'll say.

Enjoy this reading...

Wow k2, I didn't realize they were such a problem out there. I'll be out in a couple days to help catch some of these beautiful monsters and protect the public. Problem is I'll have to release them too, so you might want to consider relocating. Those fish are going to get more violent and aggressive if they keep getting hooks yanked into their faces. They'll be jumping out of the water to take out the human race pretty soon! I'm sure the wife will understand why I'm leaving in such a hurry, when I explain the entire situation.
