Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Lost lure, Chartreuse Black Dot Viper Jerkbait. Circa Early 1990’s. Alias “insane clown posse or I.C.P” Survivor of countless excursions with toothy critters – Winner most muskies landed of any lure I own - Lost to a 2-pound pike and an open cross lock in Flake Town USA. Lost about my favorite lure I own today on Forest Lake just around Party Point as you enter 3rd lake. A two pound pike took it down to the depths as I was shaking the lure boat side hoping to shake the pike off. The Stay-loc Snap didn’t stay locked! Sure I can replace the lure but I feel like I lost an old friend. The lure deserved a much better fate then the mouth of a little pike. Stayed in the area 25-min hoping it would float up or the pike would surface but no such luck. Reward for its safe return! Doesn’t have much pant left, has black magic marker dots and super deep hook grooves. I know it’s a long shot but what the heck! ThanksChris Edited by Chris Munchow 7/1/2009 10:08 PM

Lost a custom bullhead 6" hughey made for kurt's island a few years back on that middle north cabbage bed on trude lake. Or you could just do an unintended backflip into the lake like I did last week and lost a 160 dollar rod and reel and a 150 digital camera not to mention the 180 to make the boat right!

Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Yes, I would prefer to lose a lure instead of a rod/reel, expensive sunglasses, electronics, camera or cell phone. I’ve seen it all go into the drink. We once had a $20,000 camera roll off of a boat seat and teeter on the on the edge twice before falling back into the boat! Of course much more serious is when fisherman fall overboard. Here are the screen caps of the strike on the last pic. That is nothing. Have your nice big walleye snax bait on and a buddy asks if he can try it out once. He's a decent musky fisherman so what the hell. He winds up to cast said bait to the end of the earth. Line pours out of reel while bait is still at the 12 o clock position. Here loud snap, toss sunglasses, hat, and shirt to bottom of boat and dive in swinging arms in hopes to snag a hook in your arm to rescue the bait. No such luck, he had to order me a new one. The backflip out the boat is pretty good though. Edited by Pointerpride102 7/2/2009 1:42 AM

Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Happy Hooker I’ll pm you as I’m definitely interested. Yep, I know it’s a long shot but it’s the only lure in my active box that I feel that way about. I probably should have retired it to the wall of fame a few years ago. Thanks for checking out the vids. Hoping to get some new stuff shot this season. BTW it’s the 6-½ model and as the old ones did it has the weight tap system. Thanks again, Chris

Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Bomber34, I mostly run the lures un-weighted on the surface. When I first started throwing the lures I loved how you could add the weight and run them just under the surface with the lures sometimes breaking the surface but over time I found that un-weighted was just as effective.

Forest lake took my #1 Hustlers a couple of years back as well. Lost to a broken snap!! That bait had MANY fish to it's credit. Althouh I have a few other Hustlers that are close- nothing was as "magical" as that one. I would happily pay whatever someone wanted for that bait back again And I make them!! That's saying alot about that bait! Joe Trueglide.com

Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Well as I sorta expected, I never did get my lure back. Today however I found a practically brand new Suick with leader attached floating on Forest and maybe I can get the lure back to the angler who lost it and get some positive karma in return. If you are the unlucky angler who lost it and can describe it to me I will be happy to get it back to you. Thanks Chris

Posts: 295 Location: Southern Ontario, Detroit River and Lake StClair | Nice pics and I hope you get your bait back. Strange things can and do happen. I was trolling a number of years ago and one of my rods sort of went off. It sounded strange then stopped. I reeled in my line to find a king size custom painted Wiley on the end with the hook of my lure through the snap with 3" of leader that was attached to the other lure. Imagine the chances of that happening. I kept the bait and fished it for quite a few years with it being one of my better baits. Eventually I ended up losing it about 1/8 mile from where I found it. Funny thing was my leader broke and would have left about 3" of leader attached to the snap just like it was when I found it. I hope someone else found it and it carried on being a killer bait. Posts: 1270 | I was casting a custom Nate Bait swim bait in Canada last week and decided that I wanted to see how far I could cast it, of course I got a wicked backlash which stopped the bait dead. After clearing the backlash and retrieving the bait I noticed that the snap had gone completly straight except the very tip still had it's bend in it and that was enough to get the bait back to the boat. Thank God because I would have broke down and cried if I lost that bait!

Posts: 829 Location: Maple Grove, MN | We were out on Forest the other night. Didn't see your lure. With the heavy weeds in that area, I think your lure is most likely hung up in the weeds. I have not lost a lure while casting in over ten years. The lures I lose are ones given to my friends. Here are a few things I do to prevent losing lures (and fish): 1. Use #5 size Stay-Lok snaps and replace them as soon as they start looking worn. This is usually about every 5-20 hours on the water, depending how often I'm changing lures. 2. Retie the line as soon as any freys appear near the leader. 3. Use a heavy abrasion resistent line. I really like 80# Tuff Line Plus. It has a 20 lb diameter and takes a beating. 4. Replace the line once it starts looking worn. This is usually about once a year on heavily used rods. 5. Add a soft plastic bead to the line in front of the leader. This helps see where the leader is and decreases abrasion at the knot. 6. Make my own steel leaders with 105-174 lb piano wire and replace them when they get bent up. 7. Do a quick check of leader, knot, and line after each fish. Hope this helps. Good luck. Edited by Herb_b 8/12/2009 10:20 AM
