Posts: 229 | The history channel is airing MonsterQuest tonight with a segment about Mille Lacs monster muskies. It looks interesting and everyone may want to check it out. It starts at 8 PM. John

Theres one less monster in Mille Lacs as a young kid decided to spear a 54" muskie last weekend. Broke his spear on it and the fish got away, but later died as it would not revive. He ran away before the DNR could catch him as well.

Posts: 646 Location: In a shack in the woods | i have met that guy. he lives in the next town over from me. his scars look a lot worse than the attack. you can see the upper and bottom rows of his teeth on his arm. he said they caught 2 more that day. he just wrapped it with his shirt and kept fishing. he went home that night and his arm kept hurting so he went to the hospital. they put him in emergency recronstructive surgery. he told me he was going to be on here. this show is bunk in imo. this is one of the worst things i have seen on tv. all there research just to tell me a musky is a predator fish. come on. Posts: 646 Location: In a shack in the woods | he said 54 but the video sure soesnt look like it. he also said he panicked and tried to pick his arm up and lifted the fish into the boat. so i highly doubt the 54 after seeing the true attack

He thinks it bit him, really? Obviously not a very experienced fisherman. Edited by Baby Mallard 5/6/2009 9:02 PM

Location: Green Bay, WI | Well, you can see why the Walleye isn't on the Musky's menu all too often--look at those eyes. Can you say "tapetum lucidim"? If they stay in darker water, I bet they can easily avoid muskellunge... TB EDIT: That fish looked to be well over 50" to me, but I'm not sure about 54 though. It was a real nice size though, I thought. Edited by tcbetka 5/6/2009 8:51 PM

Posts: 250 Location: Pittsburgh, PA | I thought it was a pretty interesting show except for the stuff on groupers.Would have rather seen a shark or something then a grouper. Also people who watched this and don't know about musky are going to think they eat people. Which i'm guessing isn't very good news. But the underwater stuff was cool and those were some real nice bass too.

Posts: 646 Location: In a shack in the woods | groupers are an endangered species. they are unfishable. i saw it on a tv show about a year ago where a guy hooked a little one and they are not even allowed in the boat. as soon as you figure out you have one you are supposed to cut the line. it would be a blast though if you could do it.

Not all groupers are endangered... only the goliaths. I think scamp groupers have to be a certain size in order to keep those... probably what you saw. We charter a boat in Destin once a year and always bring a boatload of red and gag groupers home... as well as a few legal sized scamps. YOU MEAN MUSKIES ARE PREDATORS!?!?

Posts: 11 | That show sucks, they over exaggerate EVERYTHING. Some of the stuff they try and do is pretty cool, but that's all wasted on the retarded narrating and scare tactics.

I think the grouper is a relative of the bass, ive heard them referd to as sea bass. years ago they called them jew fish and then they decided to change the name to be politicaly correct. if youve ever been to a bass pro in fl they have jew fish in the tanks there. they look like a giant bass. gotta watchout for those "man eating"skis on mille lacs though, now cause of this show the walleye nazis and they extermination squads will be out in full force lol. yeah

This show is one of the worst things that could ever happen to the sport of muskie fishing nationwide. All this will create is a stronger negativity towards muskies than what there already is. A terrible terrible show! Edited by Baby Mallard 5/6/2009 9:53 PM

Posts: 619 | 50"skie - 5/6/2009 6:13 PM Slow Rollin, why say that??? this may get deleted, but they get speared, gill netted, and take a look at some of the videos out there and how long the fish are out of the water of pictures, half the time the fish just lay there and sit on the surface, can you say delayed mortality? most of my release i make it a point that fish is not out of the water long and it swims nicely away and no doubt it will make it.
