Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Of course you didn't Jamie, you were on Wauby. I was out with Lee B and he got a 31" and I couldn't get the hooks into one with a tiger tube. I heard a number of them caught on Wingra. But it was a real mess with launching and parking out there as stated on another thread on this site.

Posts: 619 Location: Verona, WI | Waldo and I fished 14 hrs on Wingra (can you believe that?) and saw probably 6 fish and Waldo got a 37 and a 36.5. Went back out there today for 3 hrs and saw one fish.

Posts: 413 Location: Madison WI | I was at wingra yesterday for 17 hours and today for another 15, I saw at least 15-20 fish, I missed one on a sucker, 4 were caught in my group of friends between today and yesterday biggest was 37.

Posts: 619 Location: Verona, WI | Jeff, Were the fish out deeper? Outside of one fish we didn't see anything real shallow as most fish were out in normal summer depths. The weird part is we usually catch bass and see panfish in the shallows and we really didn't see this year. I wonder if the heavy rain from a week or so ago impacted fish location. Shane

Shane I was fishing from shore over by the wingra dam, we saw a lot of fish cruising the shorelines and coming up towards the dam. I was also fishing wingra creek and saw a lot of fish in the back bays but none of them were really all that active. I definetly agree with you on the bass and panfish part though, last year there were bass fricking everywhere this year I have seen one bass and it was about 3-5 inches long. Did you venture over near the dam and see the fence they put up? I think the fish per acreage just went up for Wingra as there were a lot of fish that I don't think had a chance to get back over before the fence was put up.

Posts: 9 | Hit Wingra for a couple hours yesterday evening...we had a thick 38" put in the boat, and saw 10 others in that time span, should have converted on at least 4 of the 10 but such is life. Lake was kind of busy.

You should post a pic of this net your talking about! Anyone know who put this up? And what the purpose is? If its going to restrict fish from coming back over this is very poor timing!!! Its no secret that Wingra fish are the skinniest on the chain, and to trap a bunch of non resident fish in there to starve is a bull$. I'd love details if anyone has them. Are they trying to keep carp from entering monona? Couldn't wait till the muskie run was over??? Anyone know??? <EDIT> Hooked a suicidal one on a Blk/org phantom yesterday that got off while grabing the net. Would have been my largest Wingra fish, Maybe 40" but oh well! The DNR told us that they put it up and that it was put there to prevent carp from getting into lake wingra like they did last year by the 1000's after the heavy rain, I don't personally have a picture but its basically a chainlink fence across the dam on lakeside that goes all the way to the bottom and sits about 2 1/2 ft above the water.

Posts: 222 Location: c.wis | wingra is the best for number, take her there. otherwise manona, and waubesa are good for big fish... start but the rr tressle work your way into waubesa along the shorelines, a few hundred yards. then work your way back through to the upper mud and fish the weeds near the tresle then fish the dredge line, work your way back through the yahara key in on the bridges( my pb is from the bridge nearest to the bar) then work into squaw bay, try the bay off of john nolin prkwy, and the strech of shore near the hot water discharge, also try trolling past the triangle, good luck wish I still lived in madison

Posts: 413 Location: Madison WI | Mad Musky - 5/19/2009 11:40 AM Is that fence still up on Wingra? Anybody have any more info? Yep it is still there, we talked to the DNR about it last time they were down which was sometime last week, they said it might come out it might not. I wanted to let all that are concerned about fish being locked in Wingra that I have personally seen at least 12 fish all over 40 inches with half of them over 45 jump the fence and go back to the creek to Monona. Another note is that the Wingra dam is getting torn down with construction starting no later then June 20th. I am hoping the DNR takes it out before the contstruction starts but we will have to see. Posts: 229 | The fence isn't that high and I stopped by about a week ago for about 15 minutes and I saw a low 40 incher jump the fence as well. It SURPRISED the heck out of me too, but it had no problem making it over. It was hanging out right next to the fence and then all of a sudden it jumped over! John

Posts: 413 Location: Madison WI | They jump it just like they jump the spillway, most of them shimmy up the fence and once they get half there body over the top of the fence they are home free.

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Hey wers4455 got me out today and I manage to get a 39 incher on a M&G spinnerbait. Whooweee!!!!!! He got what looked to be a Leecher (spotted) but being about in the mid 20s we didn't mess with it. No left side fin clip, but our chapter put in some a few years ago without them getting them clipped. Thanks Jamie! Attachments ---------------- 39wauby.JPG (40KB - 109 downloads)

Posts: 1316 Location: Madison, WI | Spent the morning on Waubesa, Had a lazy follow on a topraider around the big rock pile within the first 5 casts. Nothing for the next couple of hours, moved south to the small rock pile and a low 30 inch fish chase a bulldawg down and take one boat side swipe and missed, 4 casts later a 37 inch pike smoked the dawg head first (my excitement for the day). Water temps were 64 in the morning and hit about 70 around noon by lake farm. Weeds on the north side are coming in nicely, Greenlatern is starting to get an edge. Great change from last year!!

Posts: 413 Location: Madison WI | Went out to wingra today, had a low 30's try to eat a bluegill on the creek just before 9 and had a 40" successfully demolish a bluegill on lake side just before noon. The drought has finally ended and I caught a fish on my b-day, all in all it was a great day! Attachments ---------------- 40 Inch B-day fish.jpg (91KB - 118 downloads)
