There is a lot going on in the tournament world this year. Which are you fishing and why? Which lakes?

MAC, PMTT, WMT, IMTT?

Is the economy going to keep you from fishing the tournaments?

Will you be fishing your first tournament?

I have never figured out why someone would take a relaxing thing like fishing and make it a competition. It doesn't so like any fun to me. Besides I have fishing crowded lakes.

i enjoy the competition side of it myself, it can be fun and educational to see how others approach the waters.
i like the relaxing side of fishing, too, it's possible to do different things at different times for different reasons.

i'll be fishing the full MAC trail...looking forward to the waters that it's on in particular.
also looking at possibly fishing a few PMTT events to try and qualify since the championship is in Madison this year.
i also fish the Petenwell Musky Challenge every year; it's a very fun event, with great camaraderie and gives back directly by using the proceeds to stock muskies.

Fishing the newly formed Iowa trail. My first year fishing tourneys other than local ones. Should be fun and educational, I'm excited.

PMTT Fox Chain, E.R. Qualifiers. Maybe St. Croix - Sponsor $$ is way tighter this year - (gotta get to Madison Championship). IMTT (Ironman - They're doing 5 events this year - 2 on Pewaukee.) Maybe WMT IF they have judge boats.

none,
thought about maybe doing a couple PMTT's to try and get into the Championship in Madison but decided not to with the limited vacation I have because of a family trip this summer...I'd rather not have to pay someone to have them tell me when and where I'm fishing regardless of how crappy the fishing/weather and bite is....for me, I'd rather fish when and where I want, as I know I can catch more and bigger...

none for me either.
not "anti" tourney, just don't feel the fish are the priority in a tourney environment.
too much emphasis on the $$ and the fisherman, not on the best interest of the fish.
but to each there own.

not sure why some folks wants to change the dynamic of musky fishing. too many people are trying to bend the sport towards bass fishing. i dont get it. go to vegas to gamble. if you love competition, join a local sports club and play basketball, racket ball or Poker. lots of places to compete...writing contests, beauty pagents, photo contests, arm wresting tournaments, Mixed Martia Arts events
Save a family vacation and boycott musky competitions.

I was asked to fish at least two this season. I'd like to do the WMT on LVD and the last Iron Man.
Tourny fishing isn't for everybody, but I like the intensity. Knowing that each cast means something. What I've learned in tournament fishing is so slow down and cover water thouroughly. Fish are there, you gotta work.

I only fish 1 tournament a year, the Musky Hunt in Hayward. It's a 3 day event, with door prizes and food included. Not a high pressure tourney but a fun, relaxed fishing event on the Chip.

I plan on running an underground gambling ring on the MuskieFIRST Matchfishing competitions this year. I'm sure Sorno will want in. I plan on fishing all major holidays, and on days when the PMTT, MAC, WMT or any other trail plans on holding a tournament. My goal is to eventually take over all fishing tournaments, give nothing back to the fisheries and fish all Esocids to extinction, all while profiting large sums of money.

Going to be a busy year for me. I am doing the full trail on the PMTT and some of the MAC as much as the schedule allows.
I will also do all of the IMTTs and the Petenwell musky challange.
I like the competition for the PMTT, and the MAC should also be the same.
My sponsors whant the exposure so they help me with the entry money.

As far as the IMTT and the Petenwell they are way more laid back than the others they have food after and great door prizes they also give back to the people and the comunity with out taking any reward for doing the event.

For the people that think we tournament angler dont respect the fish or the water you should spend a day with us. I think your opinion would change in a big way.

I love to fish muskies. I love competition. Put them together....win/win. As far as I'm concerned. I had talked about fishing a couple of the MMT/MAC events, but ultimately I think I will only fish the Frank Schneider Jr. Tournament. Just can't commit to traveling to MN that many times this year!

There are too many good muskie fisherman these days for me to think I may stand a chance, and then there are the "Pros", which unfortunately are not few and far between. My entry fee into the Hodag is $100, and I have an extreme remote chance to win $25000/2. The luck factor comes into play if the "Tiger Woods" of muskie fishing is on a different body of water, and the lake I'm fishing for some odd reason become "hot". There really isn't much chance of "luck" being a factor if all the anglers are on the same body of water, and there is a BIG difference between a $200-250 entry fee and $700+ entry fee with the same possible pay out. I'm just not a gambler, especially with the way the economy is going.

Tournaments breed greed, big egos, and sometimes problems with locals. There are too many tournament boats on some waters and it is not good for the fish. A lot of time prefishing and then the tourney, there are fish being killed and you never hear about it. The tournaments are not as good for the resource as a lot of people would like to think, however most of these people are the ones that are making the money from them. Just go fish. Thats the way it's supposed to be.

I pretty much gave up fishing last year because it was too relaxing. I like my hobbies stressful because the business my wife and I run is so stress free. Which tournaments are the most stressful? I might consider those.

Kevin

It a real pressure cooker. That's the way it's supposed to be.

Muskie fisherman have egos. People have egos. Muskie fisherman are people, with egos.

All people are greedy for money. Muskie fisherman are greedy for money, because they're people. Some of those people exercise part of that greed through tournaments.

Locals rarely like muskie fisherman on their waters. Whether we're fishing in a tournament or getting too close to their dock w/ big lures and/or a shiny boat, or we're advocating for a fish they believe eats all their walleyes, bass, or pannies...they don't like us on their waters.

Fishing isnt good for fish. If it's 120 boats on one body of water, or 120 boats on 120 different lakes. If those anglers catch a fish, let's remember that a hook in the face of a fish isn't like a vitamin injection.

If the guys have the time to pre-fish, then they probably would have time to fish the lake if they werent going to be fishing tournies. See my above point.

If you take the tournament and whatever they are doing for the resource, these guys are going to fish. Take away the tournament, and you take away that help to the resource they were going to give. That's not to say that tournaments are the only thing, or even a large thing that is helping the resource, but if they're giving back, isnt that a good thing?

And who said people should or have to "just go fish" and that is "the (only) way it's supposed to be". I personally don't fish tournaments because I am actually a highly competitive person, and don't want to mix the two, and I'm not that great a muskie fisherman. BUT, I don't play pool anymore beacuse it's not fun to ME without gambling. Lots of people play pool while having drinks and seem to think that's ok. I play volleyball on 2 leagues and at least one highly competitive open gym, but I won't play at a backyard bbq for a ton of MY OWN reasons. hat's not to say that I should be telling people that they shouldnt put a net up and have some fun wacking the ball around. Because you think that fishing is some sacred non-competive does not make it so. That's just your opinion.

I will be doing the entire PMTT trail again this year with a new partner. My old partner had other commitments and I am excited to see how someone else approaches the water after fishing with the same partner for years. Usually do a couple IL IMTT tourneys also each year.

No muskie tournaments for me this year. I do plan to compete in all fantasy angler events, since I am the reigning champion. My top pick will be the team of pointerpride and John Skarie on the Minnesota waters, and have heard that pointer will team up with some guy named mich for the Wi side of things.

This is exactly my point. The greed and arrogance of a lot of these guys leaves a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths. I was fishing during the PMTT one year, I caught a 38" fish, within 2 minutes I had 3 boats within 30 yards of my boat casting. One of [...them...] actually HIT MY BOAT WITH A BAIT. He never says sorry, acknowledged I was there or anything. That is [...wrong...].
As far as giving to the community or whatever, there are only a few that benefit, say one hotel, or lodge, the one tackle shop, etc... So no I don't see that as being that big of a positive. As far as the 120 boats on a lake or 120 lakes, there is a huge difference. The pressure on my lake is bad enough, now add that many more boats prefishing and the tournament pounding their heads and it makes it hard. They come and fish, pound the water and leave, never having to worry about anything else. If you want competition go play volleyball, or ping pong or tiddly winks.

I'm not sure when relaxation and competition became mutually exclusive...did I miss the memo?

They're not mutually exclusive. When I'm trying to relax on a weekend afternoon, my wife is often tries to get me to "get up and do something".

It's a real battle of wills at times, but I don't let it affect my relaxation.

5 PMTT Events, and 5 MAC Events and a couple of MI Events this year..... It should be a busy and fun time for sure.
I plan on fishing "Smart" and "Hard and meeting some really cool future friends and Giving back to the resource for our kids sake........

Winning something is just a bonus and will go to the fisherery or the CO. ...... If she finds out about it !!

Seriously, Competive fishing is not much different than every day fishing, except that you get to know some really cool people.... Most of the time

Tournaments are extreemly Humbiling( IMHO) and they will teach you to be a better fisherman and Person..

Jerome, why don't you do yourself a favor and put that money where you know the investment will be worth something, like helping me pay for college this year? With the amount your going to pay in entry fees I could be debt free this year, lol. JK

Good luck this season.

TJ,
Entry fees are the least expensive part of the tourneys.

Dude, you need to hit the books dubble time ,so you can enjoy your summer more..... Oh and you'd have more $ if you would leave the "freshmen" Chicks alone.
