Get in there and support Operation Muskie!!

ok...here we go!

the auction to support Operation Muskie will take 2 forms.

1) a "silent" auction; these items will be open for bidding over the next 10 days. to place a bid on an item, simply post your bid by replying to the thread. the highest bid at 10pm on Monday, March 2nd wins the item!
((the silent auction is now closed))

2) there will be a "live" auction; this will take place live in the MuskieFirst chatroom on Wednesday, March 4th at 7pm CST
the top bid for each item wins that item.
((now complete))
items up for auction are listed in the Operation Muskie forum:
http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=23

at the end of the silent and live auctions, we will post the total amount raised.
payments for items will be sent to me, and once payment has been received, i will ship the item out to the winner.
after all payments are received, i will post the totals again and send the contribution to Vonnie Johnson, Operation Muskie treasurer.

Is there a way to make a donation without bidding on anything?

Any and all donations for Operation Muskie are greatly appreciated.  You can go to the Operation Muskie website (www.operationmuskie.org) and it will give you an address to send donations to.

I just thought I'll tell folks a little about last years experience. The first day I guided a guy who had lost his left arm while defending our right to freedom. He was a machine gunner on the top of a Humvee, and got hit by a rocket propelled gernade. Said he would have bleed to death except for the action of the medics and a Black Hawk Helicopter who took him home. He caught a nice fish the first spot. I think he still grinning! Still very positive and thinking about nursing.

Second day I had a Lt Cornell (Air Force National Guard Milwaukee). He had been deployed seven times to various conflicts. He was the squadron commander for F-16's who did lots of damage to the bad guys. He presented all the guys who where involved with OMI with a battle flag (an encased US flag, that was flown in battle conditions) to all that where involved with OMI. I don't think there was a dry eye when this happened. Very emotional! He sort of happened to catch his personal best that day. I'd trust our country to this guy!

Thrid day I had a guy who was still carring two Iraq bullets. One in his back, and another in his shoulder. He spent a couple of years in Walter Reed, and still had some physical problems while walking, but was very upbeat about life, and the United States of  America.

Over all one of the best and most uplifting three days I've spent muskie fishing in my entire life. I wish everyone could experience something like this.

Hope this give a little inside to what we are doing.

Doug Johnson

Subject: Re: Operation Muskie Auction - live auction Weds 7pm CST!

the live auction starts at 7pm CST tonight.

take a few minutes to review the items here:
http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=23

and then join us tonight in the chatroom here:
http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/chat/

there are 30 "lots" or items up for bid, and we will auction them off one at a time in order from 1 through 30.
it will run just like a traditional auction: i'll announce the items and accept bids...once the bidding slows down i'll taunt you until some more bids come in, then call it for final bids before closing the item and awarding it to the highest bidder.
i expect it will take a couple hours to get through all 30 items.

besides raising money for worthy causes, past auctions have been a TON of fun both to participate and even just to watch and enjoy.

Even though I got out bid. I had a great time. Glad the Vets will benefit from this auction. God bless our military men and women, who we owe so much to. Thanks to Lambeau and Muskie First. Ramond

Outstanding! I am simply amazed at how some stepped up for this auction. In my opinion the lures, guide dates, lodging, and everything else donated pales in comparison to how generous the bidders were! Still shaking my head on the Timberwolf glider auction.

The auction took a while, but it was worth every minute to see how everyone is in support of our troops. Inspiring indeed!

I know one thing. I'm going to have to start saving money now just so I can win a dang bid next year on a lure or two! Perhaps if a Pig was on the auction block I may have had a chance last night.

Wendy Zems and Jerome Morris are my heros, but I am ticked Wendy got the Hardhead/10" Nitro! I see John Mich stepped up to the plate on Dick Pearson's day. I was curious to how high that would go.

Congrats to all the high bidders, and thanks for all that bidded on my date as well. Great job Lambeau!

I have to be honest. I was watching the festivities under an alias. I don't even know what to say. This is incredible. I was so wired, I could not sleep for hours after the auction finally ended.

Don't want to sound like the movie star I am at the Academy Awards, but have to squeak in a few. First and foremost Lambeau. What an incredible job. The man is a dynamo, and he made it happen. We owe you...........man!

Thanks to Steve and Muskie First for the venue to make this happen. More importantly, thanks to Steve and John for jumping on Norm's bandwagon, so we could disguise his trip. Kind of like picking ugly bridesmaids!

And I really have to single out Wendy Zens. She was the life of the party. Better keep her away from the Home Shopping Network! A little known fact to only a few of us, is that Wendy, and her husband Butch, were very generous supporters of OM I.

Quickly getting off the soapbox, thanks to all of you who supported this effort. Those of you who donated goods and services. Those of you who generously (and mostly overly generously) purchased these items. And the guys that worked tirelessly to make this happen.

You are going to make a lot of people very happy this year. Most of all.....me!

I too had a hard time sleeping last night. There was an amazing amount of generosity showed by a LOT of people.

Thanks again Mike for arranging this and thanks to all the bidders and folks who donated something. I'm very happy that I was able to be involved. The only thing I am disappointed in is that I won't be at Frank's place when this happens.

I think everyone that was in the room last night gave a big one fingered salute to the recession!

Just to pretty much echo Franks sentiment.......THANK YOU!!!!

Lambeau stepped up to the plate and smoked a fastball deeeeeeeep over the wall!  Having had the pleasure of being with him at OM I, it was a pleasure to make his acquaintance.

To the guys at Muskies First and Mr Worrall....simply amazing for letting this happen.  Class acts all the way around!

To the bidders/winners...........never going to be enough words or ways to say it, so from this veteran and all the veterans of Operation Muskie, past, present and future..THANK YOU!!

If you are wondering about the vets, take a look at the picture and link below.  John will be coming on Operation Muskie this summer.  Talked with him this morning and he was amazed at the generosity of the auction last night!

Again.....thank you all!

Wow, what a great feeling I left with last night.

You can't imagine the emotion that goes with this event. When I was told we were in financial trouble for this year I was devastated. After last night, I am walking on clouds.

Thanks to all who donated. Without the items, no auction. Thanks to all who bid. It was unreal to watch some truly generous people help this cause out last night. Thanks to MuskieFirst, you guys always amaze me.

Lambeau, unbelievable work. Your work guaranteed 20 vets a once in a lifetime fishing trip. You are first class man!

Frank...I'll deal with you later!

All i can say is THANK YOU to all who bid and to the folks at Muskie first who did all the work. Mike, I'll save a 50"er for you.

Hope the muskies are half as generous to the Vets as you folks!

Will the entire auction be posted?

yes, i'll be working on editing the chat so that it can be published in the articles section here on the site.
it may take me a few days...the raw unedited transcript is over 125 pages in MS Word right now. hopefully over this weekend so it can be up next week.

on behalf of myself and MuskieFirst, we're honored to play a small part in helping out, but let's please keep in mind that Operation Muskie's organizers and guides are the people who will be "doing" this for the veterans involved.

Was anyone else unable to get into the chat for the auction last night? I tried entering in at about 7:30(got home late) and each time I tried the connection timed out. Tried maybe 2 dozen times between 7:30 and 8pm and same thing happened each time.

Maybe things were just too full at that point?

Sorry I missed it but amazed(maybe not really considering the great bunch of guys on here) at he amounts raised.

Good luck to the Vets on the '09 trip, may you each catch your PB, and make memories that will last a lifetime!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!
