Just wondering how many baits guys have. I have around 30, which I know is hardly any, and I have friends that think I'm nuts when they find out they cost around $20 a piece.

you should ask how many boxes of lures guys have. Some of these guys could stock Rollie and Helens

I'd several hundred. Including creatures, probably well over a thousand.

Sorry WRONG question!! motoyama,, the question you should be asking is "Do you own enough baits that will hit "every depth" "at all speeds"?

You could own 10,000 surface baits but if the fish never come shallower than 30' the day you are on the water you will never catch one!

Don't get caught up in the #'s of baits you own you will never buy success. Rather focus on purchasing baits that run "true" and hit "exact" depths from the surface down to at least 48'.

I have no idea. Hundreds of one kind, hundreds of another and hundreds for one type of fishing and hundreds for another...........and then there are the ones just for trolling, so....more than 1000 and less than 2.

A better question is how many of the baits you own have caught a fish? I know many guys that have 1000+ baits, why?!?! they will never catch a 1000 fish in their lifetime. I Keep 150-200 baits -over half have actually caught at least one 'ski ....why do I even have that many? I find myself buying around 10-15 baits a year, mostly to replace the ones that got destroyed the year before. On my list for this year a topraider, a pacemakers, 2 triple D's, 4 DCG's and 4 Rad Dogs.... and then a few bulldawgs and suzy's as they get beat up through the year....and that's all I will need.

We're first collectors than fisherman.
Like my Father in law said to his daughter when they were talking about guns..She asked how do you know if you have enuf guns. His reply was if you know how many Guns you have you don't have enough

I used to have over 400! This year I will have under 100! And probably only about 20 styles of baits with the rest just being different colors. When I first started this game I bought everything, as time passes you really start to see what lures produce and what lures ride in the box all year. Take this advice If you need more lures than what fits in a Lakewood monster throughout the season you need to re analize. If I would have listened I would have saved a ton of money and been that much closer to my ranger. In 09 go for 100 and under!

Way to many but still looking for more! Just the otherday I "found" a bag of about 20 Shack Attack lures that I forgot I had got last fall. I guess when you forget about a bag worth $400 you have enough!

Another good question is how many do you atually use? I have box after box of musky baits but find myself using the same 5 or 6 baits all the time.

I own about 60 baits, but have found that I have probably about 4 or 5 that I always use. I'm still buying more, tho, because I just don't have all the right color/depth/clarity of lake/sky condition combinations. You need baits that will cover from surface down to 20' and in all different colors. For me, it's the fact that I hear other baits catch fish, so I just HAVE to have that one. Or that one in 2 colors.

I have somewhere around 160-170, but like others say I have a few that get all the time. I am finding myself widdling down to the styles that cover the different situation the water presents, then a few colors of each of those. Buying lures is a learning process in the beginning. You find what you like and what works for you, then sell the others. You end up losing some money like that, (but it is fun).

I probably have around 450 baits. Like what has been posted above, how many have we caught fish on? I find myself changing baits alot less often than I used to. Sometimes I will throw one bait all weekend and never take it off.

At the musky show, I seen a ton of baits that were great and I salivated over. Then I asked myself what bait will I shelve so I can throw this bait? I have a ton of great baits that I don't use enough now. I did buy a few baits, way less than normal but chose them carefully.

I have about 135-140 and like the others have said that I use most of the same baits most of the time. This year I am going to try to get more of the baits in the water that haven't gotten as much water time.

I have more musky lures than I have musky stories...
Too many to count and I would probably would have the best boat on the market if I invested in it; now, I figure, about 1200 lures.

1200@20-30/each

There is my new snow machine, vexilar etc.
Is there a world record in this category?
Someone out there should hold this title. lol.

Last count was just over 1200 when I hung them all up in my basement for inventory. That was two winters ago. Now I would have to say closer to 1500.

I actually took pictures of all my lures, rods, reels, graphs, and other equipment so I have a record of my equipment. That is now in a fire proof safe just in case something happened to all my stuff. This way I can have proof if it ever needed for insurance or police.

From top water to crankbaits in muskie baits and a bunch of walleye baits for trolling big eyes on the great lakes.

People say one or two of a lure is enough. Sometimes I have 5 or six of each lure in each color if its needed. YES, there is times when a certain lure color is hot trolling and YES I have run six of the same color at the same time with extremely good results. Bait hoard? Yes.

Some say it's crazy but if it catches more fish because I have what I have then its buisness. It's all about results when on the water. What ever I can do to increase my catches I do. Bring on the shows................I am ready for a few new lures.

I have about 70 lures and I have considered even selling a few more and slimming down to about 50. I can only carry so many on me and they are wasting space/money just sitting around looking pretty. They need to be fished!

I would say I have about 40 lures total. What I take fishing with me is a Top Raider, Jackpot, Crane Bait, Super Shad Rap, Jointed Loke, Bull Dawg, Phantom, Double Showgirl, and Mepps Giant Killer. Most have caught fish and I can work pretty much any depth. I will be buying a Double Cowgirl, and Hellhound. I have confidence in the lures I use and its hard for a new lure to break into the lineup.
Good Luck,
Tom

I have alot and keep telling myself I need to sell some and slim it down, but when I go through my boxes I don`t want to get rid of anything, and I just add more.I will say that when I go fishing I take my lakewood monster box and have it filled full, sometimes I go to grab a lure and it`s at home,I hate that, the worst thing is figuring out what baits to take for a week long trip, that takes a while.

I use to buy everything also--Many colors of the same baits. as time goes by you have your favorites that you use and have confidence in. I have gone from about 300 down to about 50. That may still be more than needed. It is a pain trying to transport all that stuff. Give me 2 rods and about 10-12 baits and I am fine.

As my dad said, how in the hell am I ever gonna decide what to use. My number is probably between 3OO-4OO. Do I "need" all of them, absolutely not, but I hate thinking I want to use a certain bait to do something, but I don't have it in the boat. It's also kind of a hobby to move buy and sell/trade baits.

I've also got a growing collection of baits that will never see the water, but some of them are really freaking cool.

honestly. i don't know. i trade for baits and buy bait for redeu's and customs. at least thats what i tell myself when i get them, lol. years and years ago, i remember looking for over a week just to find ten different large sized lures. limited selection for sure. black, red and white that stuff. nothing wrong with that though. now in a half hour i bet i could drive and buy 100 different big lures. i really think i'm not alone when i say...'' owning lures is just as good as a fish when i'm telling fish stories''. it's kind of a silent prestiege now. anyway. i've got boxes and boxes and boxes of lures. at least half got the hooks cut off and never replaced. but i still want more and i know i'll get more. not to mention my own lures, but i don't count them, they're basicly unlimited. awsome hobby collecting baits. sometimes i get several of the same and they go to the DNR kids' programs along with reels, rods, small lures, money, whatever. good luck

I am right around 40 or so I have several more that I want but none that I really need I suppose. My dad keeps telling me that I don't need to buy any more, he just does'nt understand....... thankfully though my list is getting shorter as I realize that I have it pretty well covered but there are always a few more that I want..... always more.
