Have you ever had a wife or girl friend name your lures, this was actually funny. A reef Hawg was a smiley face A Suick was a can opener A shallow Invader was a USB port. Just thought I would throw this in for some cabin fever chat. Merry X Mas Edited by MuskyFix 12/23/2008 3:47 PM

Posts: 225 Location: Nordeast Minneapolis | Growing up, my family would spend a week at a WI resort fishing. When my sister could be pulled away from the cabin or the beach, she would go out musky fishing for an hour, put on her 'Frog Hobbler' (Hawg Wobbler) almost invariably catch something, then go back to quilting. Drove me nuts.

Posts: 4266 | Weagles are "plop-plops" Reef Hawgs are "Spazzes" My gliders are "One of yours". Which used to be funny. "Gimme one of yours." "They are all mine". "You know, one of YOURS". "THEY are all MINE." "You know, one that you made." "Why don't you read a book." My daughter is a much better fishing companion. She asks for help taking her lure off, and then looks throuout the boat. "Is that all of the boxes?" "Yup." She'll continue looking and then I'll hear "OOOOHH. Dad, will you help me put this on"? And it will inevitably be something Firetiger. Great partner. No complaining about anything. But I always cut the muskie hunts short and then go fish for panfish or bass. We do lots of trolling on The Mississippi River, and it's there where she comes up with names for all of the colors for the minnow lures. Whenever we change lures, it's always preceded by..."This one looks like a ______, and this one looks like a so-n-so, This one looks like the kid who sits behind me. Never a dull moment, and I love every goofy minute of it. Beav

Posts: 32909 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sue has names for her baits, but I can never hear what she is saying to them. Some sort of secret. Far from thinking Muskie fishing is stupid, she thinks MUSKIES are stupid and truly enjoys fishing for them. I think she is correct.

Posts: 171 | Mepps #5, gold blade, brown bucktail, yellow/orange body = "Magic lure" This name came about on our first Canadian fishing trip. My wife caught a 37" Northern Pike and a 35.5" Musky! Then after that the Mepps Muskie Killer (a little larger, gold/red body) became "Imitation Magic", the original Mepps with a black bucktail is "Black Magic"....and so it goes...... Merry Christmas, Everyone! ErieBoy75

Posts: 305 | my girlfriends don't name em but always seem fascinated by the feel of the soft plastics...frog imitaitions are "cute". my male fishing partners love to name my new lure inventions...these names not being fit for a family forum-but very fit for belly laughs out on the water and at our christmas party the other day.

Posts: 1459 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | My daughter is now 10....when she was 6 wanted to know the names of baits and I'd tell her...then I'd quiz her and she'd be so proud..."What's this" I'd say....."Ten inch Jake!", with a big grin minus two teeth...."And this?" "Top Raider!"....she'd reply looking around to see the impressed faces of amazed spectators.... Now, when we fish she says, "Which bait REALLY catches muskies?"....Gawd, I wrack my brains tryin' to find the one bait that'll catch her a fish...put something on and she'll go 10 minutes then start rifling through my boxes..."Dad, will THIS ONE catch a musky?"....man, you godda' love it....off topic, I know but still...

Posts: 406 Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | A buddy of mine came up with the best name for Creeper style topwaters. It doesn't matter which one it is, they are all "Phelps". Cracks me up just thinkin about, especially when you set the hook too early and dislocate his shoulders.

If they bring it up more than once and turn it into something serious... I cut it off no matter how cute they are!!! Too young for that stuff!

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I guess I am pretty lucky. Mine knows the names of a few of my baits. Some do get descriptive names, like "the sparkly black one" (Weagle) or plop, plop baits (pretty much any tail rotator). I'm pretty sure she has Curly Sue and Suzy Sucker down...mostly because she might have been questioning my faithfullness when I started talking about Sues and Suzies (just kidding) ![]() I figure if a girlfriend can botch a net job for her boyfriend, and he can control himself enough to just say "that's fine, just an early release," it must be a pretty good relationship, lol. ![]() curleytail

Posts: 2295 Location: SE, WI. | 19 years ago I made a surface bait. Went out to test the lure on Pewaukee and my wife had a hit on the first cast. I said set the hook because the hooks were not filed yet. It was a 5+lb largemouth. She named the lure a "headbanger" I kind of liked the name...

Posts: 294 Location: Bloomer, Wi | the old girlfriend used to call the 11"Curly sue "the big ugly one" And the all gold Dominatrix bucktail "the pretty one". Go figure a girl thinking an all gold sparkly bait is pretty.

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | I am extremely lucky...my wife knows the names of most of my lures and the ones she doesn't she asks, "what is that jerkbait called?" or "which crankbait is that?" She knows who Bucher is, Saric, Gregg Thomas, Tony Grant, the Keyes boys... I guess the interesting thing is, she can't stand to fish. She's never been out with me nor does she show any interest in doing it. She listens to my stories and has bought me enough stuff for gifts through the eight years or so...She just knows! Steve

My X liked fishing and came up with a couple of good names, she would ask me what I caught a fish on, the one I'm with now doesn't care for muskie fishing but still tells me what to use and the color, believe it or not she's right 50% of the time and I caught my largest trolling fish on the one she got me for X mas a few years ago. and a krusher is a Duck Bill.

Posts: 2024 | Reelwise - 12/23/2008 9:38 PM I believe esox50 had a relationship end because he hung up with a girl going to net a fish for a buddy. LOL! Not quite. I simply put the phone down on the front deck without hangin up as she was mid-sentence (and crying) to go net a fish... Oh well, the fish was worth it ![]()

Posts: 86 Location: Wauwatosa, Wisconsin | all the girls i meet i try to explain the point of catch and release in musky fishing and they just think its stupid...if they only new the adrenaline rush of catchin a big girl with gills lol. this is funny...my grandpa jokes around with me about all the musky lures i buy and how big and goofy they look to him. For my birthday as a joke he took a coat hanger and straighted it out and put a whole puch of ripped up socks and fur on it to make it look like a big bucktail and called it the winkerdoodle lol He also gives me crap for buying so many rods and reels...i just tell him its just like how you buy new golf clubs all the time lol
