Posts: 8857 | I used to bring a banana along as a snack. Had something like 15 fishless days in a row one year. That winter I watched a charter captain down in Florida throw some poor dude's bananas overboard. (He was so mad I was afraid he was gonna throw the dude in after them) I was laughing to myself, thinking "man, that's stupid, I've brought bananas a bunch of times fishing, and I never heard of them being bad luck before!" Then I realized that there was not one time when I brought bananas on the boat that I had ever actually caught a fish. Stopped bringing bananas. My luck improved. Wasn't until the next season I realized that I had been using banana boat sunscreen, too. AND carrying it with me in the boat! Gave it away. The heavens opened up and the angels sang. I started catching fish. Jeez, almost every time out, seeing fish, catching fish, fish blowing up on baits, fish going round on 8's... No bananas. No banana flavored fruit gum, no Banana Boat sunscreen, no banana logos on hats, or weird hawaian shorts with bananas, no bananas. | I doubt bananas have any impact on muskys. I do alot of salmon and steelhead fishing, there it is a definate no/no. We played a trick on one of our friends during the salmon run on the Pere Marquette river a few years ago. We rubbed up his handful of plugs (without him knowing of course) with bananas and he was shut out while the rest of us had a lot action. After a few hours, we let him off the hook and told him what we did and swapped out his lures.

Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Hey Musky Martin, that is hilarious to hear that banana was making the rounds. I was the original victim of that banana as part of a running joke about them that started here in Eau Claire between a few of us. I left it on the dock and noticed that it had disappeared. Jono

Posts: 25 | One trip last year, I remember bringing two bananas on the boat and catching a 46 incher by myself. Then, I ate one and didn’t catch any more muskies that day. Maybe the secret is more bananas! Edited by T_Musky 10/10/2008 5:05 AM

| I think it depends on where you guys are storing the banana as to how much it would effect your fishing | |||

Posts: 32954 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | It's the potassium. Not the 'container'. Really. No Kidding. Try a bottle of potassium in the boat. You not only won't catch any fish, you will repel all boarders.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Banana's are a no no in my boat. Theedz (if he's still alive) and his wife can attest to my dislike for the offending fruit. I have many banana horror stories, and if I catch any in my boat, they are outta there!

Posts: 785 | esoxaddict - 10/9/2008 2:18 PM No bananas. No banana flavored fruit gum, no Banana Boat sunscreen, no banana logos on hats, or weird hawaian shorts with bananas, no bananas. I humbly disagree with banana flavored gum, had a couple awsome days on the water chewing some strawberry banana gum! In fact I'm chewing some right now! However in light of Steve's potasium statement maybe thats the secret as gum is all artificial flavoring. I would agree that NO ONE is entering my boat if he has on a banana logo hat, and weird hawaian banana shorts! Kinda stuns me how many people are trying to eat healthy (bananas) while in the boat anyways. I guess going fishless serves you right. I've been safe as a can of pringles and some cosmic brownies is about all you'll find in mine... and thats the way it should be

If this is true than what I thought to be a far fetched theory that the tube of Banana Boat sun screen in my boat is the problem not the skunk I've been looking for. Is there any potasium or other derrivative of banana in Banana Boat sunscreen?

Posts: 462 Location: Antioch, IL | Potassium helps break down the lactic acid that builds up in your muscles after casting ridiculously oversized lures all day long. Naners are welcome in my boat.......Pineapples are not welcome in my boat. Edited by Fish and Whistle 10/10/2008 12:53 PM

I guess that would make sense. Brownies and a mountain dew just help to keep a guy hyper on those late nights, but some muscle relief would come in handy... I usually down quite a bit of Ibuprofin to mask the pain and help with imflamation. I still reject all banana apparel though. Attachments ---------------- 12424.jpg (22KB - 117 downloads)

Posts: 94 | Never heard of this before, must be an American superstition or something, never heard of it here in Sweden at least. But does that mean that these badboys (called Deadwood, made by Swedish luremaker Piscatus) bring bad luck? Attachments ---------------- deadwood_bananas.jpg (65KB - 115 downloads)
