Location: Bloomer, Wi | I have known about the wheel bearing going out of my truck since just before the Vermilion outing. (Fishing takes priority over truck). But today as my brother was driving 25 mph through town going perfectly straight the wheel and brake assembly fell off. Couldn't come at a worse time, fishing trips will have to be cancelled just to pay for this. Work has slowed wayy down to (building houses).
Hope everyone elses luck is better than mine right now.

Location: madison wisconsin | I feel for you man. My reverse gear in my transmission went out, and about a week earlier, my trolling motor fried up! Thank god I have a few people to take me out though. If it were'nt for them the wife says I would'nt be fishing muskies till springtime! Good luck getting her fixed and hope you get on the water soon! |

Had a failure on my '07 Caravan in Vilas during July. And when I took it to the dealer, they told me that the "genuine Chrysler replacement" was on long term backorder.... |

| I have a 2000 Ram 2500 had both front wheel bearings go out within a month. Fixed it myself for around $350-$375 per side. Those bearings are pricey, it's timely job so a mechanic probably charge you a pile. If you haven't gotten it fixed yet you should also check and see if your lower ball joints are still in working order. Both dodges I'v had need to have them replaced and you have to remove the wheel bearing to get at them. Just try to save you some work down the road goodluck. |

Location: Rhinelander. | Reason I can't go is really lame. Had a run in with a lawn mower. I mean run in as my foot got in the way of the blade. Much rather have had truck trouble. I'm sure it does not hurt as much. Good luck with the truck.

Location: Bloomer, Wi | I had a Black 97 ram that was just as sweet a truck as this one (my opinion anyway) and the drivers side fell off on hwy 94 doing 80mph I had the truckfully loaded cuz I was moving everything I owned back to bloomer. It was the same day my buddy I and were supposed to leave for Leech Lake for a week. Actually we still went but couldnt take my boat, (that trip kinda sucked) |

Location: Bloomington, MN | I really hate to out do you, but.......after spending $1400+ in June on transmission/differntial work, $629 this past Saturday on a front wheel bearing, serpentine belt, oil change. and an air filter, I decided to rear end a big yellow school bus Monday night! All individuals involved are O.K, a scratch on the bus .. but the mechanics at a local gas station think my truck is totaled. I had to cancel my big annual Hodag Muskie trip prior to the accident due to my common law mother-in-law's failing health, and she did pass away yesterday afternoon.

Check to see if there is a recall on those bearings. I was looking at similar vehicles recently. All the carfax reports had recalls on the wheel bearings.

I have the same truck. I've hit a Ford Excursion which hit a Maxima. Both of those were totalled, I backed up and drove off. I've whacked deer doing about 80, kept going with it. Never bent the frame, just basic cosmetic stuff. Unless your frame is bent it looks like you should be ok. Those trucks are tougher than a person would think.

| My pal has a 2002 Ram Cummings diesal that makes a loud axle vibration sound when he goes over 55mph. Every time I hear it when I'm a passenger I remind myself to drive next time. Did you have any warning signs before the detachment occured?

Do I understand this correctly... this is the 2nd time you have neglected maintainance on your truck and both results are the whole tire/rim coming off the vehicle? One time at 80mph? May God help you, because of your lack of responsibility on the road, if you ever accidentally kill someone.
I sure hope anyone from my family never has the misfortune to be on the road next to you when it happens. |

| Joe, could you hear the bearing "howling" on either of the two trucks you owned before it fell apart on you? Im nervous now, my drivers side was getting bad this past spring and I had that replaced but the passenger side is the original yet and I have 158,000 on her. |

Location: Bloomer, Wi | Yes I could hear a noise, sometimes the noise would disappear for a couple days then reappear. This truck only has 91,000 miles the other had like 200,000. But its not like the tire shook or anything even just before it broke off you could drive it just fine.
Yes, this is something that should be taken seriously as hodag hunter pointed out, this could have ended in a worse way. But sometimes people make bad decisions, not fixing this sooner was one of mine. |

| My 01 ram had a clip in the rear axle let go as I was on my way home from showing video at a local fishing club meeting in '05, then in '06 I put a bunch of front end parts in her. U joints in '07. Now, the black paint was coming off the roof, and She needed brake lines, (rusting badly) plugs, wires and a cap, and rear tires. I was heading home from the St Lawrence when the Transmission began to act up. 64,000 miles. Not exactly Ram tough. They were offering A whole bunch of incentives and discounts on Chevys in the newspaper ads. I got back home Saturday night. Tuesday, I was driving a new Silverado. I hope it treats me better. |

Location: Davenport, IA | Wheel bearings are a maintenance item and will eventually have to be replaced in any vehicle. If they're making noise...its time to do something. I had some noise coming out of the front on my Jeep one day. The next day the wheel flew off...lugnuts were loose and I always torque them to 100 ft/lbs...someone had tried to steal it when I lived in a rough area. Luckily I only needed a new rotor. |
