Posts: 7039 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | How did everyone do this weekend out on the water? High winds and waves kept The Panda off the big pond and high water temps in the N.IL/S.WI stopped us from chasing muskies. However, I went to work for a little fun....50 gills this size and 30 emaciated bass later it was better than just watching fishing shows! Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Blanked twice in the evenings with Merckid and Pointer. They got a couple during the day, but the only fish boated in the evenings was a smallish Tiger TJ stuck on a Wabull.

Posts: 7039 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Yeah, you did. And no comments about the smallie sized bluegill I'm holding? Or the fact that it looks like I have one of those inflateable kid swimming toys under my shirt....

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Nasty nasty cold front up by us Friday night/Saturday morn. We got up to Land O Lakes, WI at 10pm, air temp was 80°, wake up saturday was 56°. Lows were down to the upper 30's. I only fished gators for about 3 hours, seeing nada. Got one 18" walleye and a couple of small perch saturday night. Water temps up by us are hoovering around 70°, water looks like pea soup.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | sorry ... looks like a rockie ... got anothe pic to prove it? body shape going back to the tail-fin and the fact you're lippin it ... if the inner-tube is true then you prolly got fat fingers too. yup, cold-front in the northwoods ... bass were really slow but we did find real bluegills, perch and crappies holding tight but eating in 20' of water near rock and weed combo structure. one of the kids got chased and ate off by a high 30's muskie following a bite near bottom so i'm assuming they were down there chillin out too.

Posts: 2024 | AFS meeting in Ottawa, my partner for the day boated a healthy upper 30s" on a spinnerbait. Missed another on the shallow model Curly Sue (those rock, Andy!), and I scored a little 24" on a large spinnerbait speed trolled tight to the weed edge (always nice to see those young year-classes). I'm calling green sunfish on SLAMR's pic!

Posts: 7039 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Because it's Monday and the work load at the office is MONSTEROUS, I have done research into what I caught, compared with with the opinions from above and determined that what I caught (at least in that pic) is in fact a green sunfish. I did some research into the IL state record green sunfish, and found that it stands at (a whopping) 2.1lbs. I caught at least 3 of them that size, and larger. I hearby crown myself KING OF THE GREEN SUNFISH. Coming soon to the net, GreensunfishFIRST.com

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | if you remember correctly i thought it was a carp ... you bn told me it was a redhorse and then some of the boys on another board started to claim record status akin to a discussion we were having about the great wisconsinite louis spray of hayward and his amazing record ... the only redhorse i could find in the wisconsin record book was a "silverfin" ... then it was deemed to be a golden by someone and falls short by at least a few pounds. probably should have measured it though but the catch and release ethic in me thought othewise so that it wouldn't be out of the water long ... didn't want to get blasted on the boards as the water temps. were nearing the mid-70's on that particular day, but the sun was out and surely affected the fish when it was out for the quick picture. that fish was discussed on a thread on another board where they were claiming the pounder ws too big ... this baitfish we thought might prove that pounders might be a good idea ... did slamr get away with the yellow sunfish claim?

Posts: 8782 | Somebody get Sled a quickstrike rig!!! And I do believe that is a sunfish Slamr is holding. If sunfish could talk that one would be saying "holy crap, look at that gut, that guy's gonna eat me for sure!" And before anyone asks: Yes, I HAVE looked in the mirror lately. Pretty sure there's lots of things afraid their gonna be dinner when they see me

Location: Lake Tomahawk, WI | My older brother was in town so we went bassin' and got one big one, about 5lbs and some big gills but that was it. Tough bite. Lijewski won Mohawksin on Saturday to follow up his win in Manitowish so he had a good weekend and even a better day Monday morning at the bank that little jerk Of interest: The small lake we were bass fishing on was showing signs of turning over. I know, messed up. I don't think it is, but seeing muck floating and weeds dying...Usually don't see that for another 3 weeks. Mark commented to me that the muskies are moving shallow which usually doesn't happen until mid-September. The big gills were in 3 feet of water and haven't been there since early June. I think we're going to have screwed up patterns until turnover and also think after turnover is going to be great. I'll be thinking about it while I'm glassing the foothills of the Little Belt Range.
