Posts: 7119 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | How'd everyone do out there fishin this weekend? Still on my "summer muskie hiatus (til Canada)", I went out with Mike Conklyn and a one legged Tom (Elby) Elberson. Things started slow, but Mike got into a nice 33-35" rainbow that fought mad, jumping a dozen times and taking 10 minutes to get into the boat. Elby missed one that took a spoon behind a dipsey, not a bad fish, but not a trophy. Then a rigger popped, and like a NINJA, I was out of the captain's chair and onto the rod. Tom, I REALLY MEANT to hand you the rod, but you just had to take that next step....15 minutes later, 14lb king in the net. We picked up a nice coho, a fat little laker, a nice king and a small one. 6 for 8. Fog rolled in, 10' of visibilty....3-4 miles from the harbor....got a LITTLE hairy to say the least! Muskies in 3 weeks for me! Posts: 159 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Guided Thursday and for the second time this summer landed 2 people their first muskie within about an hour of each other. I LOVE that. The first one hit when we were practicing casting the round reels. Got two more follows Thurs, then nothing Friday, or Saturday. Thankfully they hit when the clients are on the water!!! Didn't seem like a full moon weekend.

Posts: 1316 Location: Madison, WI | Nice pike! How'd he catch it? Caught one fish trolling pewaukee and raised another casting. Then slip bobbered Mendota Saturday, caught a mixed bag of fish. Was a fun weekend.

Posts: 386 | The full moon on Friday served me and my buddy quite well. Nothing bigger than 38", but we raised 6 musky and brought 4 of them into the boat -- all swam away with vigor. Also got some pig pike in between. GREAT day!!

Posts: 214 Location: Central Iowa | Spent a few days on Vermilion, got a 39 incher and a buddy caught a 43 incher which is his personal best. Saw a lot of upper 40's and 1 or 2 we thought were over the 50" mark but couldn't get them to go. The picture is of the 43 incher. Attachments ---------------- 43.jpg (183KB - 138 downloads)

Posts: 4266 | Ya gots to kiilz 'um afore ya can eats 'um. As a certified forensic pathologist, I can safely say, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that those fish were properly thumped upon the cranuim with a blunt object before they were put in that cooler/customized lid/doubles as a rod holder if a fat guy sits on it thing. The protruding bolts are designed to dispatch any 'flappers' that might get tossed in. But I wouldn't eat a Laker if you paid me. That turns that customized crab pot into a LARDer as soon as a laker gets tossed in there. Edited by Beaver 7/21/2008 10:22 AM

Posts: 103 | I got a 30.5 inch on Thurdsday on a Mag Dawg. The fish never fought the whole way in. I thought i had weeds on, but I guess it could not fight much with a bait that big in its mouth. I woke up friday to severe stomach pains so I went to the doctor and they said I pulled my stomach muscle. So I didn't get to fish The full moon friday or the weekend.

| 15 fish limit of all kings night fishing the full moon Friday night. Included in the catch were fish of 19lbs, 18lbs, a mess in the 14lb range and the rest 8lbs to 10lbs. Saturday evening was a solo run. Popped 13 fish going 13 for 23 in about 90 minutes. 5 doubles and 2 triples fishing alone, what a HOOT!! Rods were going off as fast as I could get them in the water. Kept 4 kings from and 1 rainbow for my 5 fish limit. Released 11 kings from 8lbs to 10lbs and 2 rainbows. Was going to drop the fish off and go back out for another Sunday limit but storms/rain moved in and my eyes were slamming shut. All in all a successful weekend. | |||

Posts: 38 Location: Port Washington, WI | I was in Vilas County fishing various lakes Wednesday through Sunday. Things were pretty tough for me with not a lot of fish contacted. Lost one the first night on the Mani chain and didn't get another strike until Sunday morning when I boated a low 40s fish on North Twin. Spent time fishing open water, deep weeds, shallow weeds, breaklines, rock bars, and everything in between. The one I got was caught over a rock bar using a hellhound. First fish I actually got to hit a glider so that something I guess.

Location: Lake Tomahawk, WI | We were really pumped about Friday night. Conditions all week were poor, with hot, humid weather late week leading into the full moon. We fished most of the night on Friday into Saturday morning. Mark and Gordy were scouting new lakes in Vilas, I was on an old standby. My buddy and I gave her hell, got off the water about 2 am and ended up playing beer pong with a couple of lady lifegaurds until the wee hours of the morning. Showed 'em how us Generation X'rs can clean up at drinking games. Quick nap, back at 'er Saturday a.m. Raised a few nice ones, went and stacked field stone at the resort most of the day. I enjoy that about as much as digging trenches or tearing off rotten roofing. Saturday evening the weather was real heavy, felt like a good bite coming on. Ate a meatball sub and went back at it and boated one decent one on a Cowgirl (yes, they do work in WI). My partner released another 40ish fish on a MagDawg. Mark and Gordy checked in with another 2 nice fish on Pounders. The moon phase really didn't pan out like it should. The storms bearing down on us (which ended up missing) really had the fish moving Saturday evening. Weather seems to trump moon phases more often than not. The fish I had going were relating to shallow weeds and timber on fast dropping shorelines. Raised a couple of real dandies too, one might have pushed the low 50 range. Mark and Gordy were sticking to deep edges, and also moved several big fish. With a week of low 70's forecast with north winds it looks like sporadic action again until some hot sticky air gets them to go. Had a lot of fun this weekend regardless. Posts: 25 | Hi All, I'm a HUGE fan of this site, learned a lot from the info here and thought it was time to jump in. This past Friday, full moon night and storms all around us, surface temps 74-76 degrees, we were trolling the St. Lawrence River, NY, I was running a hot walleye bucher depth raider. At about 1:30 am on Saturday, I hooked up with a BIG musky. After an amazing fight, we got her in the net. My buddy that netted it said "this thing is Heavy!" So, I reach in and start pulling her out of the Frabil, and remember thinking..WOW, there is just more and more fish here as she is coming out of the net. As I scooped my right arm under her to hold her up for pictures, the weight of this tanker was just amazing. Up until this point, the thought of 50 never came to mind (my previous big one was 48), all I was thinking was this thing is huge and we have to get her back in the water. Well, I layed her on the bump board and we were in shock to see she actually measured 52.5 INCHES!! So, I got her back in the water, she swam off great and the rest is history. I'll try posting pictures here, thanks, Tim Attachments ---------------- BIG 52.5 incher.jpg (117KB - 139 downloads)

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | Hit a local cooling lake this weekend. Poured rain, got a couple inches of water in the boat. Two eyes, two smallies, a striper, a drum, a sunfish and a big cat on crankbaits. Lost a few eyes too but that was 13 hours of fishing. Can't muskie fish every weekend like I used to with the price of gas and definitely not by myself so those trips are now local.
