Posts: 909 | Alright guys, Lets have some fun! whats the best story or excuse that you've told your wife about fishing, spending money on gear, coming in late from fishing or anything else that muskie addicts do! One time I told mine my job was sending me to new york for training and I spent the weekend on Chataqua chasing muskies. I don't even want to talk about how much my calcutta cost...LOL you guys would want a truckload of them. Tell your stories, we won't tell...LMAO ![]() Brian

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | I am very spoiled with my wife, no excuses needed here. She knows that fish over bars, and I don't tend to go into them. She will even join me, as long as it is 85 and sunny and she can read her book! Horizontal rain and snow don't quite get her excited about fishing!

Posts: 67 | Me, it was the coming home late excuse. Left the house at 5 am told her I was going fishing for half a day. So, of course when I got home at 6 pm. She had a fit and said, I thought you were fishing till noon? I said hon, half a day is 12 hrs. Her look could've stopped a friggin train. LoL

Posts: 226 Location: Downers Grove, IL | OK guys - congrats to those of you that have understanding wives/girlfriends/no kids to worry about and can fish whenever you want to. I have none of the above, so I love the original topic of this thread - EXCUSES! I need some good ones. "Away on a business trip to NY" to fish for a few days? smooth... Trusting your father-in-law not to spill the beans to his daughter? Not so smooth! Keep them coming! I want to get up to Canada, Minnesota and Vilas this year! Jeff

Posts: 4 | I've gotten into plenty of trouble over these stupid fish. here's a few lessons I've learned: NEVER EVER say you'll be home for supper! In fact be VERY vague when it comes to time of arrival. Don't bring home any food she sent w/you on your trip,(cookies, caserole, fjitas, whatever), this resulted in the biggest "fishing fight" in my life! And like I was told long ago, DENY, DENY, DENY!

Posts: 462 Location: Madison Wi. Chain | I have used the work excuse, needless to say it did not work out well. Now I am usually vague about how long I will be gone. Blame it on your boat partner i.e. he really doesn't get out much and wanted to stay out longer. Try the free trip excuse, "I won a trip to Canada or Minnesota at a club raffle." Lately, I just try as best as I can to work around the kids and wife's schedule. BG

![]() Posts: 282 Location: north west wisconsin | when we first got together i asked her if I could go fishing at least 1 day a week, the best thing you can do is establish trust with her that you are doing what you say you are doing, if you lie to her it will hurt everyone in the long run. Now I just ask her like two days in advance if I can go on such and such a day she usually lets me go and she knows when I go fishing i will be home before midnight unless the bite is unbelivable (sp) with tournaments and trips up north twice a month and Canada twice a year I tend to tread pretty lightly, cause if start lying (SP) about where I am she won't be a happy camper when I get home. Excuses are short lived, tell her the truth cause marraige is all about comprimise if you go fishing one day a week instead of three its all for the greater good..... ie I would rather go fishing for 10 hours one day then not be able to go at all

Location: Green Bay, WI | So I guess it's a pivotal point in your relationship when your wife *tells* you to go fishing? Her: "Honey...I am going shopping today. Why don't you go fishing?" Me: "Yes dear." Hey, who am I to undermine her authority? TB

Posts: 550 Location: So. Illinois | My wife enjoys fishing as much as I do. Problem is, sometimes I need a little "alone time" and muskie fishing is my favorite "alone" activity. Understand that alone time for me means without the wife... I have to be very careful about scheduling my alone time as not to make her feel unwelcome. She now works shifts and her days off do not align with mine whcih is convenient for me. My goal is to get out often, but not too much where she starts complaining about her schedule and the fact that she can't go along with me.

Posts: 2089 | During my 11 year "practice" marriage, I had a few basics that always worked, and usually had something to do with certain equpiment that broke down. See, this is also a possible route to new or "wanted" equipment as well. A new 9.9 Merc Bigfoot w/ a Panther lift for example." Insurance in my safe travels dear." And the most "wicked" of all time , is breaking a rod on purpose in order to procure a newer and back in those days, longer one. I must put a disclaimer out there and don't recommend the latter to anyone, but if you DO decide to take my devilish advice, be careful as graphite can splinter .Wear glasses and use a towel.Oh yeah, she was blond and from Iowa, so I had it easier than most. Hahhahahahahaha. Steve Edited by Steve Jonesi 5/12/2008 9:03 AM

Why don't you go fishing?" Me: "Yes dear." Hey, who am I to undermine her authority? TB Beware...this is a trick!! Now your wife has your credit cards and budget only we could dream about. We're just to preoccupied with fishing to realize she's cutting into the fishing funds. LOL

Posts: 145 | SVT is definitly not married...... it is give and take, give her whatever she wants or she will take half of your stuff. My wife is pretty understanding and she knows that I am habitually late and she honestly expects it HOWEVER... I usually have to lie low for a few days if I take too much liberty. Also, I keep my gear in the car and that way If I get the time I can go throw for a while. By the way, last time I was late I blamed it on the surveyer 10 min appointment gave me over an hour of fishing then all I had to do was explain why I was wet and smelled like fish.......

Posts: 909 | Hey guys, This is almost the start of a new thread! LOL!!! We can ask how many of us talked just like SVT before we got married and had kids. No offense kid, but your in for a "dose of reality" It's not always that your not allowed, It's take the kids to baseball practice or the kids are sick or a million other things that come along with having a family. Some day you'll look back and laugh when you think about us saying "I TOLD YOU SO" Help me out here guys! ![]() Brian Edited by muskie24/7 5/13/2008 7:26 PM
