Sweet...this thing is a smooth as glass winch. Matched with the XH EVX 8.5', this will throw 'em and winch 'em back in!

Ordered it for tossing double 10 bucktails and big spinnerbaits.

I was really debating on that reel, and it still looms heavily on my to do list. I've talked to a couple people that have the reel, and they've said that it is second to none in fit and finish. One of the thing that really sets it off for me, is the accuracy of the machining.

I am leaning towards one of these also, but am a bit worried about how cold the handle will be. I might go with the composite paddle handle, but wonder if there is any flex in the composite handle...the reel looks great for sure....

Whats the difference between the Isis and the Induron 400 ? They have the same gear ratio.

I was looking at that very thing. Hopefully, Mark will confirm the information I gleaned from his Wednesday Okuma chat weeks ago, but the Induron is 7 BB whereas the Red Isis is 5BB but with tighter tolerances to better cope with salt water needs. The handle on the Red Isis is also a composite which makes the Red Isis more expensive than the Induron 400.

So my question to Mark would be why Red Isis over the Induron IDx.

Hey guys....

Internally (with the exception of the type of ball bearings) the reels are the same. The Red Isis has what we call "HPB" bearings. These are treated differently than our standard stainless steel bearings to be more corrosion resistant for heavy saltwater use. The sideplates on the RI are also machined from bar stock aluminum. The Induron sideplates are stamped. The main reason for the increase in cost is in fact the handle as well as the different ball bearinga and machined sideplates. The machined aluminum handles on the one pictured above take a lot of time to produce (Time = money). The carbon fiber handles too are expensive to produce. I have switched over to all RI reels for my personal use. not because they are necessarily better just because they are new and draw a lot of attention.

The carbon handle does flex. I hooked a 14 pound bass on that handle and tried to break it. It held up good. I can put just as much pressure on the handle with a big bass as I can with a Muskie.

If you have any other questions... let me know.

would the twin paddle handles on the red isis handle the doubke #10's and other big baits like the power handle? i'm assuming it's just a matter of personal preference and fatigue...thanks

Not as well as the power handle, I don't think. The standard handle will crank in the big stuff OK, but the power handle makes a heck of a difference.

I found the handle to be very comfortable to use, as did Sue.

We will not be doing a left handed version. This is actually a reel that our Japanese agents take. We just jumped on their orders to bring a few in. I am fairly confident that they don't take a left handed version. If they don't do them... the U.S. agents won't do them either.

*** The power knob is comfortable. Obviously different that anythign that you have used. After an hour of fishing with it the first time, I didn't notice it any longer. Yes... it will be cold to the touch as it is aluminum.

Mark.
