What kind of motor do you have on the back end of your fishing machine? How many of you are going to change brands in the future or will you stay with what ya got? I am currently running an Optimax and love it. Don't know if I will ever change brands!

I run an old Evinrude on back of the " Ol Tank", Boat shopping now Opti or E Tec would be top choice.

This year I will be running a 225 Suzuki 4 stroke. Suzuki's rock!!!! I wouldn't change motors for the world!!!! Over 650 days on the water the past three years and NOT ONE SINGLE PROBLEM!!!! Gotta love that!

Mike, how many motors have the 650 hours been spread across? Just wondering if you've had a new rig every year. I lose track!

I sold my Lund that had a Mercaha (Mercury with Yahama powerhead they tell me). In a few weeks, a Verado will be in the garage. I stayed Merc because I've been treated well and for the convenience factor with my preferred marine dealer. Is there a bad brand?

I' have used a 75hp Mercury for 20 years, only problem was with a oil gage alarm. Using an Optimax 135 now on a Crestliner 1850, just breaking it in so far.

Not 650 hours...650 days!!! Little bit of a difference there!!! LOL And yes, the past four years I have gotten a new boat every year.

wow, you must go through a lot of gas running it straight for 650 days. Obviously misread that # description. Sounds like a solid motor Mike. Norm "the Rocket" Wild put another on the back of his new Tuffy.

25 hp Yamaha 4 stroke. $15 to fill her up, and I'm good for a week.

2007 175 suzuki 4 stroke, 6 yr warranty, quiet, doesn't eat gas, great top end and hole shot. I'd buy another in a heartbeat

50 hp Merc (yamaha powerhead) 4 stroke on the cabin boat. solid runner as well.

I'm running a 90hp yamaha 2 stroke. For what I need, it fits the bill nicely, although I do miss Johnson Motors....Maybe upgrade to a honda Vtec some day..that motor is very intriguing to me..

Another vote for suzuki, they are awesome. I have been running the 175 four stroke since it came out in the spring of 06, not one issue.

I had the 175 Suzuki on the 2006 Polar Kraft and again on the 2007. This year I decided to run the 225, but was VERY VERY happy with the 175. Amazing motor.

After some research, and some help from people on this site, last year I got into a 115 opti. So far so good.

4 year old 200 VMax with 340 hrs. on it with NO problems ever, other than me abusing the impeller..... Still runs 68-70 wide open.
Great motor.

Just bought a Verado 225, had it on the water this past weekend, this motor is unreal!!! I did a ton of research prior to the purchase and it came down to a Yami 4-stroke, Suzuki 4stroke (use to have a 150 2 stoke Suzuki, never a problem but loved to eat gas) and the Verado.. After my first trip this past weekend I think I made the right choice with the Verado!!! The Verado is a complete driving system that offers so much more than the competitor. I also just seen a video where a boat rigged with (2) 350 horse yami's got beat by a boat rigged with (2) 300 horse verados.

Ranger 618 with 135 Opti - great motor for that boat.
Alumacraft Waterfowler 15 - with 25 hp 4-stroke Yami. Used for waterfowl, and small lakes/rivers.

The opti is great on fuel but #5 cylinder melted at 62 hours ( MW marine said it was nothing I did to it). New (not rebuilt) powerhead has been flawless has about 100 hours on it after two seasons.

The Yami has been an awesome motor; quiet, starts in like 1/2 a second whether it's 70 degree's or 10 degree's, idles smooth as butter, and sips fuel.

I had four or five ELPTO - 60 hp Mercs, they were all flawless. Previous Ranger had a 175 EFI that was on it's second power head when I purchased it, but I was always nervous with reliability on that one, was ok for me other than fuel economy, I ran it for three years.

All that being said, if I were to re-power the Ranger or buy a new rig tomorrow my choice would most likely be Suzuki or Yamaha.

I went with other....it really depends on what I eat before I go out, and what I eat during my outings. Some days I have a little more gas power and on other days I run with no emmisions

Another 2000 Johnson 115 carb. Not as frugal on gas as the new DFI's and 4 strokes but after running a 1990 Johnson 150 it sure feels like it.
