Posts: 7039 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | In connection with the Okuma Chat this Wednesday night, Okuma has decided to give away an IDX 400 Reel in addition to the rod that was given away earlier tonight! Real simple contest rules, but you have to do both parts of the contest entry to be considered. a. Post WHY YOU think you deserve to win. Be it a one word explanation, or a thesis on your own personal virtues, convince the judges (myself, Mark Rogers and Lambeau). Convince us. b. You must post a picture of a fisherman or woman, wearing Okuma Fishing bling and holding a fish. That might be a hat, a shirt, etc. The picture can ONLY be entered once....meaning that if you find a pic, but someone has already posted said pic, you need to find a new one. *and, no editing your entry! **contest runs til Monday at Noon, winners to be announced by 5PM CST on Monday! Good luck all! Attachments ---------------- template1_02[1].JPG (29KB - 202 downloads)

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I think I should win the reel because I should be doing homework right now, but instead I have been searching for pictures to post. Also, I think it would go great with the Pro Edge rod Keith is building me (actually, I am going to put an Okuma on it regardless so why not save me the hassle of buying it myself? ). I think I should win because I just caught the muskie bug and it is going to break me. I use one combo right now and a second reel would go along way. It scares me every time I go out that I will have a problem with my current reel and I will be SOL! Attachments ---------------- okuma.jpg (1KB - 171 downloads)

I would like to try out an Okuma musky reel alongside my other reels to see how it performs versus my Calcuttas, Lunas, and c3 7000s. I have heard nothing but good things regarding Okuma and I am going to find out for myself Attachments ---------------- Joel avatar.jpg (19KB - 170 downloads)

Posts: 23 | The main reason I would love to have this HIGH QUALITY OKUMA reel is to replace one of my current reels which is about 10 years old. Being a father of 2, I am unable to justify spending money on a new reel at this time. A new HIGH QUALITY OKUMA reel would allow me to enjoy my limited time on the water even more because it is built so well that the fish will probably jump into my boat just to get a glimpse of the beautifully designed HIGH QUALITY OKUMA reel. OKUMA High Performance, Quality Innovation...Affordable Reliability. Hell, maybe it will help me to get the 3 year skunk out of my boat. Posts: 2865 Location: Brookfield, WI | It's been a long winter here in Wisconsin for my family with near record snow falls, stretches of sub-zero wind chill factors, and what has been several months of varying coughs, fevers, and overall malaise. My wife has battled a bronchial affliction for the past six weeks with at least two separate colds as decorative layers. My daughter, who was busy with school plays, projects, and recitals, has also been coughing and experiencing an intermittent fever as have most of the other students in her elementary school. Even I, a hardy fellow that rarely succumbs to an illness, in early January experienced a four day butt whomping from a virus of some sort, (aches, fevers, and other unmentionable symptoms) that left me so incapacitated that for the first time in the adult portion of my 47 years I actually began contemplating my own mortality. I was weak for over two weeks. Combine the weather, the cacophony of illnesses, the depression associated with the Packer loss to the Giants, and a downturn, violent upturn, and now another downturn in my real estate appraisal business, and very little cooking of any kind has taken place in my home for what seems like years. A sandwich here, a can of soup there, spaghetti and Ragu, a frozen pizza, a delivered pizza, burgers made, and burgers from a bag; the cupboards often bare, the Wolf range starved for attention. My God, one night we even ate Hot Pockets that I bought 5 for $10.00. While some spend their winters hunkered down in shacks, peering into holes and indulging their passion for fishing even through the winter, or squatting on high horsepower machines hurtling over frozen lakes and wooded trails, I've always felt a Wisconsin winter should be about quality eating. Last winter was the winter of the pizza. This winter, aside from a few decent Packer Sunday meals, has been the winter of nothing. I need something that even if it doesn't feed me, would add a sparkle, some joy, some fulfillment, to this endless dismal season. Perhaps a shiny new Okuma reel? Maybe this year I could catch a musky using a new Okuma reel? If I were to get an Okuma reel, I would certainly use it, I would certainly speak well of it. Thank you for considering me in your contest. Kevin Okuma Shigenobu Wearing His Bling. Attachments ---------------- Okuma Shigenobu Wearing His Bling.jpg (11KB - 186 downloads)

Having moved out west, I left a couple reels with my brother a fledgling muskie hunter who is using them well, I traded my other two reels for fly equipment to tackle the trout here out west. I am now reelless and realize that the tigers in Utah are not far and a trip or two to Canada is an option....So a reel would put this has been, back in the muskie fishing arena...Thanks, Ben p.s. after further research, there seems to be a pretty good tiger muskie population here in CO as well...looks like I will be on the water on regular basis if I had a reel:) Edited by BenR 2/23/2008 8:35 PM Attachments ---------------- ca_header.jpg (39KB - 158 downloads)

Posts: 303 Location: WI | This reel would make the PERFECT birthday gift for my soon to be 4 year old son! I was going to wait until he turned 6, but I've heard the new IDX 400's were sooooo smooth and user friendly, 4 would be a much better age to get the youngster started (or addicted)! I'd build him the rod to go along with it....sure would make the boy's day!!!!!!!!!!!! Attachments ---------------- heather-okuma-striper.jpg (33KB - 165 downloads)

Thanks for the chat Mark. HAHAHA! Yeah...I could have really tried to give a good sob story of why I should win the reel, but figured I have been lucky enough this winter. So I um, didn't even try to give a good story...errr...yeah. Yes, I have it now. If I had been really trying to win, that reel would already be on it's way - being air shipped to my house. YEAH RIGHT! All kidding aside, it's pretty fun to read everyone's responses. curleytail

Location: Illinois | I really want to win this reel. I have a lonesome 7'6" rod and an Okuma reel would mean the world to both of us. The rods previous reel left him, and ever since it has really been in a depressive funk! This reel took away its musky virginity on a northwoods beauty a few years back, and he was instantly reel-whipped! I thought that they'd always be together- until one day, she packed her oil and her line and shacked up with some 9 foot model. I can't take it anymore. During the night I'm woken up by his whimpers, "Abu Marcia, wasn't I long enough for you?" Occasionly I catch him playing with his own reel seat and pretend I didn't see. He's always staring at other combos longingly, and it's creeping them all out! I've even tried introducing him to other reels but he says they just remind him of her. I sent him on a blind date with a Daiwa but he said she was a lunatic. I think the IDX400 would be just what he needs. 5.1:1, 7BB + 1RB, 13.1oz - that's one sexy reel! It can't be just any reel, though. He needs quality, reliability, and the latest technology. He needs a smooth, strong, & accurate reel. He needs Okuma! My pic is of a certain handsome moderator whose Okuma visor works in perfect symbiosis with his remarkable hairdo! To the other moderator: your dignity wouldn't allow butt-smooching to sway your vote, so I'll not even attempt. Rather, let me thank you for selling me that reel at the Chicago swap for a fair price. I later understood why you were selling it, because it wasn't an Okuma of course! And lastly, Mark- you represent Okuma so well it has really made an impression on everyone here. It means so much to me that if I am the recipient of this prize, I can always count on you to answer all my questions regarding this stellar company and it's fine products! Lastly, about me, I am crazily obsessed with this sport. I fish tournaments in Illinois and elsewhere and am relatively new to the sport. Just around a year ago I discovered MuskieFirst, and it's been a real godsend. I hope if I don't win it goes to Will Schultz, I can't argue with it's proceeds going to a great cause!
