I am going on 15 years straight of having a rookie catch his first fish in my boat!
I am proud of this and plan on keeping this tradition going. All CPR'ed , but most of the fishermen are hooked for life. Try it yourself it is very rewarding.

4 this year at the expense of my own success I believe. But then again, I had first crack at them, either way it's totally worth it, really feels just as good as catching them yourself.

All of them still think I'm nuts. One converted for life, two want to go again, and I'll probably be married to the other one before too long.

It wasn't his first muskie, but very close. This big dude from Ohio had gone muskie fishing with guides 30 times and not caught a muskie. Then he went trolling with Mr. Extreme on Pewaukee and landed his first muskie. Then I met this character on the MF trip to Sabaskong Bay Lodge and we fished together for a week. He made of list of his first. First fish on a top water, first day with a double, first day with a triple, first catch on a figure 8, first fish on a buck tail, first muskie casting, and some others that I don't remember. He was also a good breakfast cook. That's Mikie! It was also the first trip where I met another unique character, named Mauser. But that's another story.

This passed season I got to take out my boss from cousins subs, a guy that goes to school here who hasnt had much luck with muskies as of late, and my dad. I put my boss on his first ever musky, which came on a sucker. I think I was shaking more than he was. I had a shot at another fish earlier but that didnt work out, but the day was a success in my mind by getting my boss his first ever. I didnt get the other guy or my dad on a fish but that is a goal for next season.

Everyone in my family has gotten their first fishing with me to include my wife, son, daughter and two brothers. Over the last 5 years I have gotten at least on co-worker a year their first muskie. I have about 3 people I work with scheduled to go this year alone for thier first muske trip. I find it as much fun taking people out for the first time as I do actually catching fish.

I think about 13, might be more as those are the ones I have available to my immediate recall center...I'm going to make it a point to add to it each year.

You shouldn't have gotten rid of it in 'the biggest garage sale in the history of garage sales'!

Wasn't my first purestrain out of your boat? Why yes it was.

Nice subject. This past year i decided to start specializing in guiding first-timers. It's such a blast- 6 first-time muskies, and no disappointments. Right on, you guys. Add to the sport each year. I'm shootin' for 15 first timers this year, anybody want to race?

I was able to get 4 people their first last year. I even had a father and son double up for their first. The dad caught his on a Blue Fox bucktail and while I was getting the net, I see a fish go airborn after the kids topraider. Neither were very big but they didn't care. That week was the first time either of them had gone fishing in over 10 years.

I'd estimate 50 or more over the years. I've been blessed with lots of new Muskie anglers in the rig. Not always successful, but what can one do?

Not so much in regards to first overall fish, but plenty of first multiple fish days and first night fish. I might have treated AROZ to his first "two dozen largemouth bass" trip...which was more like his first "two dozen largemouth bass hour." hehehehe.

Well, In my boat I got my girlfriends dad his first two within an hour of each other... I think he is hooked-he-gave 20$ to buy him more baits at the Milwaukee show.

Standing by me in the river a buddy of mine got his first to take a victory in my first matchfishing competition!
Good times..

Over the last 5 years I have seen more cherry's get broke than I ever would have dreamed. Being part of that is so rewarding. I consider my job a blessing when I get to see how a fish can make a person so excited. Kids, moms, dads, grampa's and grandma's all act alike when the mighty muskie shows up at the boat.

I would say 20 a year would be a good average season for first timers.

My grandaughter Jazmyn's first, a 31". The other's (X-Man, Hunter, and Brittanie) will follow.

Mikie & Mauser are way cool. I still have this very vivid image burned into my brain of Mikie dashing cabin to cabin with a black cast iron skillet and fresh cornbread at the 1st MF Cass lake outing. Alas, his nickname "Cornbread". Also, an very drunken image of Ranger & Fishingfool doing a knot tying class. I don't even want to think about the "Shady Moon" over Cass Lake!

Have fun & take a kid fishing!

That is the best part of been a guide is helping someone catch their first muskie as well as the majority of experienced muskie anglers who fish with me getting their personal best.

I was lucky to put 3 friends on their first muskies last year, and my mom too! I had probably 6 people see their first follow with me too, always HILARIOUS to see them bascially go into a babble-fish state and stop reeling when the first big guy follows! Meanwhile i'm standing there yelling, "DON"T STOP KEEP REELING!!!!!!!!!" It never seems to work....

My boat always seems to be hot for rookies or beginners. It's always great to put them on fish and I have just as much fun even if I didn't boat one. I really enjoy showing them the ropes and am always willing to take someone out no matter their skill level.

As has been said, helping someone catch the 1st or biggest is one of the most rewarding aspects of Guiding. When people would ask how many fish in the boat for the season, my response would be " I dunno, but 7 caught their 1st and 9 caught their biggest". THOSE are the numbers that really count. Length/Girth? Naw.Ok, maybe sometimes.LOL. Steve

I don't have many friends that get into muskie fishing, so the opportunity doesn't present itself very often. BUT, I will never forget when my one good bud (who to that date maybe had 3-4 fish in the mid 30 inch range) stuck a four footer when it ate at boatside on a creeper, just before dark on a dead calm evening. She came completely out of the water and didn't show herself until that very second...I too freaked out, but he had no idea he had hooks in her until she landed back in the water and took an immediate power dive, taking my bud to his knees with the rod buried almost up to the reel as he's looking at me with eyeballs the size of a softball!! What a hoot that was...
