Subject: MuskieFIRST Match Fishing

Starting May 1st at 8pm central time on MuskieFIRST there will be a thread to sign your team up for a 32 team friendly members match fishing.

Rules are:

1)You can fish any waters but you must fish the same day as the team you are against in that round.

2)You have from 1 hr b4 Sun up to 1hr after Sun down to catch the 30" or better muskies for the event. But if you want to gamble and fish only 4hrs against the other team you can.

3)You have one month starting June 1st to find a date to match fish or you both teams are DQ'd....If one team is free and the other is never free, then Slamr and myself will make the call on it...but lets put me and Slamr in that spot.

4)Points are 30"=4pts and 1 point for every inch over that. Half inches are rounded up. So a 35-1/4" is 9 points.

5)All fish must be released safely....if we hear differently...the team is DQ'd.

6)If in case of a tie or BLANK by both teams. The team that signs up FIRST for the contest on May 1st will the winner. VERY IMPORTANT TO SIGN UP RIGHT AWAY ON MAY 1ST AT 8PM CENTRAL TIME.

7)All teams must present info to the other teams, phone and email to put the times together. This info must be exchanged by the teams they have to match fish agenst.

8)All teams must have a teams names (Slammers) ect.

9)Team bracketing will be done by order of entrys...1st team to enter is #1 seed, and so on.

10)You can fish any waters; even Canada. But you have to catch the fish. What ever you think it takes to beat the other team, honestly!.

11)You must have all fish verified and put on site by digital camera or scanned photos.

12)Once you have the date verified you have to email me. I will give the name of a household utensil that must be in the photo..This will be really funny!!!

13)MF is the governing body...and if someone cheats...they are DQ'd.

14)If you have to go up against a team that is DQ'd you win by forfiet.

15)All team partners must fish together.

16)We are using all state and local rules here. If your lake is one line, no trolling and you are up agenst a trolling four lines...Well its up to you to fish a lake that you think you can beat the other team on. Your call on what water and what method it will take to win.

17) You and your teammate can't use a guide..but you can be a guide and be in the contest with a member of this site. Example..Richard Collins can fish with Slamr as his teammate..

18)ONE teammate must be a registered user on this site. You can fish alone if you want to take on the world by yourself.

JUNE 1ST 32 TEAMS
JULY 1ST 16 TEAMS...SWEET SIXTEEN
AUG. 1ST 8 TEAMS....ELETE EIGHT
SEPT 1ST 4 TEAMS....FINAL FOUR
OCT. 1ST 2 TEAMS....MF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!

Winner just gets site bragging rights!!!! to be MuskieFIRST WORLD CHAMPION!!!

Any other ideas on Rules? and who here would be interested?

You can't be guided by someone.

Besides that, everything looks good.

I am in.

Scott does that mean us guides can't partake in the fun?

It is a team event so one team member must be getting guided one way or the other or they would be fishing out of two boats.

A. I'm in
B. the first concern is going to be HONESTY: and to address that I'd say remember this: pride is the reward for this contest, and gaining that through cheating.....do I have to explain that?
C. though trash talk will fly, remember once again this is all for fun, to build comraderie and for different guys to meet new people across the muskie world. ONCE AGAIN, this is for fun, and pride
D. There is no need for a prize, BECAUSE I AM GOING TO WINNNN!!!!!
E. Good luck to all!!!!

I didn't mean that. Guides can definately take part. I would love to face off against the big guns.

I meant that I can't hire you for a day, and count that as my fish-off. It's just not fair.

You can't pay anyone to put you on fish.

Unless I'm incorrect on this, this is a TEAM event, so unless you and your team member where going to fish with a guide, then it wouldn't be eligible anyways. AND one rule is that the 2 members of the TEAM need to fish together on that day....ie. both guys have to be in the same boat, I can't be in Canada while Boro is in Indiana.

Who says you and Boro aren't going to be guided that day?

That's all I'm saying. It's the two people on the team and that's it. No outside influence.

I know Jason pointed out a digital camera for validation but still don't know how we can verify the date. But we have to make sure this is for fun and not put money or big prizes out there.

This is a team event Slamr so your pard has to be there to take that picture. [:p]

I would even venture out and let Slamr and his pard fish with a guide agains me, now that's confidence as all I need is a 34 1/4 incher to beat his two 30 inchers. []

Man this is going to be a blast now lets see the schedual so I can see if I can make the dates all the way to the finals. [:sun:] Weekends are getting booked up fast.

Slamr is right...this is only for braggin rights..not a tourney....just frendly match fishing between site members.

I am just laying down some simple rules so folks dont complain.[;)]

Yes Jason, I can see that, well slamr will have to go troll 6 lines in WI to even out his odds agains me and my pard. [:p]

Subject: MuskieFIRST Match Fishing

Setme, me and Boro won't need a guide (not even sure if Boro going to fish with me in the contest at all)....if you make it to the later rounds, you'll be asking us to guide YOU! Good luck to ya Scott, we need to carry the IL flag into the later rounds!!!!!!

Slamr your best odds of moving ahead in the standings, is if the other team forfits or is DQ'd..

Wisconsin will take this one![]

Subject: MuskieFIRST Match Fishing

Jason, Wisconsin?....win??? only if you are fishing in another state LOL. My money is on the people who frequent Indiana [:p]

You can cheat at ANYTHING if you want to bad enough. A picture with our without a date on it is still not a deterent annnnnnd many people don't have a camera that puts that ugly date all over their pictures. Let's not go overboard here or someone will require us to carry a current newspaper in the boat so we can take a snapshot with the current paper (date) in the picture. All the photos will turn out looking like muskie hostage pics.

I'm in if my partner ScottO will be game. I think you can help validate photos by having each team make a little sign with the team name and the date on it.

Ok..But photos make this fun thing very cool on site. Besides, the other team will want to see what you caught to beat them.

The whole thing will be done on the honor system..as site members I think we can do that...even though bragging rights on this site..is worth a ton. LOL

I just have to set some rules...so I dont get nasty emails with excuses...etc.[]

But photos, will be very nice and fun on site.

Forget validating the dates of the pictures with the camera, Jason can e-mail the participants as early as a day or two before the fish off and tell us what he wants to see in the picture. Can be a flower or anything he can think of that is common to be found in any house.

Like for slamr that can be a playboy mag. []

Jason and I talked about this last night and I think Slmr had a great idea with this Match Play (Did I say Slmr had a great idea?!). Glad to see Jason run with it!

One thing we may want to add is another week to the time frame. If we want to include as many folks as we can I think it will be easier for folks to mesh schedules over a 3 week period instead of two. Just a thought.

As far as points, my opinion is it should go in halfs. A 30 and a 1/4 would be a 30 1/2 and a 30 and 3/4 would be a 31. INSTEAD of a 30 1/4 and a 30 3/4 both being 31. You never know a half inch may make the difference.

Let the games begin!

This should be a good time. The only rules change I would suggest is any fish caught on the Fox Chain should count for double points.

Also, I would suggest that all involved, when trying to set up the date, they try and fish the same body of water. It would allow us to fish some new water with Hopefully a bit of guidance from our opponent and make the trash talking that much more fun - since it could be done on a one-on-one basis and not just over the board. Plus a few beers at the end of the day with your opponent would also be a good time. I realize logistically this can't always happen but I think it would make it a little more fun.

Honesty is going to be key here! Let's just hope that pride will not overcome honesty! It will be a great race as long as everyone keeps it on an honest level....will be great to see how Canada stacks up against WI, MN vs. WI and IL, and then the eastern guys against the Midwest supposed heart of the muskie world!!! Let's get it OOOONNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!

The easy way to validate the date on the picture is to have Jason pick a denomination of US or Canadian currency to be featured in the pic the night before the match event, different each time. Could be a small denomination bill, or a coin.[]

Do you guys feel...is two weeks enough...or should we put it on a once a month? June, July, August, Sept and finished in Oct.

Verification....I perfer what Richard says. The teams set the date and let me know. Then I email them the day before. Then each team has to have the certain household item in the photo...plunger, can opener..ect.....

Now that would be funny!!!!
[]

For those of you who are afraid that you'll be up against "better sticks" or even fear the "pros" remember this line: On any given Sunday, you're either going to win or you're going to lose. This is muskie fishing, the fish can decide whether or not they want to eat, for a pro or for a weekend warrior. There is no way to beat the odds, except to pound, pound, pound...

Must a team be made up of two people? You see, I have no musky nut friends in my new hometown, and I fish alone. Not that I'm whining about it as I can still confidently try to kick a$$ against the MF members in WI, IN, IL and especially those dainty boys out east. [:0]

I think once a month is good, as you are going with 32 teams then 16 then 8 then 4 then 2 and if I count right that would be 5 months.

Now I remember the talk about double elimination and we all know that's impossible in this format but what about we make it 2 seperate days during that month total points. That way we can try and take bad luck or bad weather out of the way.

Bring it on Ranger boy, what state are you from the 30 inch one of the 34? [:0]
