Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | All Musky Snax baits for 2008 are made from solid Oak which is then dipped and sealed in a propionate plastic mixture. This is the very same plastic dip used by several other major lure manufacturers. It not only seals and waterproofs the wood but it gives me a smooth surface to work my magic on. These are the most durable wooden lures of their kind on the market! Eyes and gills are carefully airbrushed on. The baits are painted with Auto Air colors for maximum durability and eye popping intensity! Some models even feature color shifting finishes that will blow your mind! Tails and fins made of durable microfibres are another new addition for 2008 and add an incredible extra dimension of realism. Once epoxied into the baits they hold up to fish after fish unlike rubber As of Jan 1st 2008 all Musky Snax baits sold will be the new Oak wood, plastic dipped jointed models. No more solid body cedar gliders will be available. Due to being a one man operation I can not possibly keep up with the demand for all the models I offer so I'm limiting production to only the premium jointed models. These incredible lures are the ultimate representation of a live bait fish and extensive field testing has proven them to be deadly on many large game fish. Joe Yes, I actually meant to add that the fibers are an idea that I got from the incredible bait maker John Hopkins. He was gracious enough to tell me what he uses and some installation tips. Happy Holidays all and a big thanks to MuskieFirst for all the support.

Great bait. Bait makers should not have to share all thier secrets on how they make baits. If they did then there would be numerous other people copying them. Create your own new baits with your own ideas.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | While I don't have to share anything I'm not willing to, the pinning method was shared with me by Nate. I use two screw eyes in the head section and a stainless steel pin that passes through them both in the tail section of the baits. The angles are done with different router bits so as to keep them all consistent. I purposely leave lots of space between the joints on my swimbaits to allow a free swimming motion. I noticed that many production baits have really tight joints that while they look good, they also inhibit the actions.

Posts: 119 | Thank you I appreciate that. My biggest question is how you seal the jointed area after the pin is inserted. I also use screws eyes and pins, but I have struggled with getting a proper seal after inserting the pins.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Well, I insert the pin and then add a drop of epoxy to seal back over the hole to keep it from ever working its way out. As for the actual holes, they are only just large enough for the stainless steel pin to pass through so it's never really been an issue. The "pin" is a length of heavy gage stainless steel wire.

Posts: 119 | I use stainless steel wire used for welding, so we may be simlilar in set up. Thanks for the replies!

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Wow, thanks Kingfisher! I'm still doing more field testing with regards to the fins. They do affect the free swimming motion so I'm tinkering with which ones need to be tweaked.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | I'm no longer taking orders for baits and then having people waiting for me to build them. I will however have a waiting list for my freshwater baits. If a customer wants a certain model they can be put on the list and I will contact them when that particular style is ready to ship. No obligation to purchase and no deposit required. Baits will be sold on a first come first serve basis. From time to time I will post batches of baits here on MuskieFirst which will be sold at a 15% discount. That's my little way of giving back to the community which has supported me from day one.

Posts: 286 Location: VA | Emailed Mike a few Mins. ago. This was his response. "I have recently decided to retire from the lure business in order to focus on my custom airbrushing business. I will put baits on Ebay from time to time but I'm no longer going to take orders for the baits. The ones I'm finishing up now will be the last ones for a little while. " Hope to see him back in the game soon.
