My brother got a 35'' in the boat and right as I was about to snap to photo, the fish starting shooting crap on his coat. He was holding it properly. Didn't get a photo cause he freaked out and released it!

Multiple memories on Lake of the Woods with two of the coolest guys I know. From hand landing to catching a fish from shore on a tiny island in the middle of the lake...it was a blast!

Missing my personal best on Cass (again) due to my own bad fishing - do I hate that lake or love it? Love it.

How can a fish that could swallow a football have such a hard time getting my bait in her mouth?

7 boatside fish - it don't matter how big they are it's always awesome.

Catching my first 50 was one of many highlights. See a tail swim by the front of the boat, cast a DCG in front of it and bulg it in. The tail dissapears and right when the lure gets to where I last seen the tail the fish crushes the bait and instantly goes completely airborn... I'll never forget it.

Catching two fish on back to back casts on the Mani Chain this July. It was the first time that i really targeted suspendos and thought I was really on to something. Went the rest of the weekend without seeing another fish but it was worth it.

The ONE moment? How can I do that? There are a series that are indelibly engraved in my gray matter...
I guess if catching it wasn't the most memorable, the sight of seeing that fish for the second time (this time as a replica mount) at Presque Isle will have to go down as number one. Talk about being blindsided; but definitely in a good way!

Thanks again guys.

Pretty cool that you're willing to admit Jonesi has that effect on you, Joe. Most guys would be afraid to put that on an internet forum.

Having a low to mid 50 inch fish follow on my 2nd cast of the season. Never saw a bigger fish the rest of the year.

LOL Hopeful, Rick Lax and I were fishing with Jonesi that day and SJ kept asking me all day "Hey Joe, catch a fish yet?"
Well, after all the excitement and a BAND-AID (she took a little nip of my finger) I yelled and said "YES I DID"
I gained a friendship that day and learned alot about muskie fishing which imo is better than catching a fish..............

HMMM, too many to pick just one. Probably the 4 footer that swam around wearing my Weagle like a hat for a few minutes while Keith and I tried to figure out what the heck to do next. The fish SLAMMED the lure; no idea how it ended up like that. She finally turned toward me, the line unwrapped from around her noggin, and the lure slipped off without even a slight hook up. Got two that night, and lost a couple more.

Close second would be the evening of topwater action Merckid and I had on a local lake...

Pulling the Krook away from three different fish while fishing with Mike and Tom Hulbert in Minnesota.

Last time was on a big fish spot where he had seen the fish several times. Fish charged behind the bait and when it decided to eat I pulled the lure away. Basic topwater mistake three times in one night.

Oh well.

too many positive most memorable to honestly pick one. I can pick the worst most memorable. Fishing Pewaukee when a pontoon boat was getting closer, and closer, and closer.......finally veered off as I was getting desperate to flee. Luckily, the parent got up to help his maybe 5 year old steer the boat off the collision course at the last moment.

I think my most enjoyable was floating a portion of river, and nailing three 40"+ fish in a section less than a mile long.

Catching my personal best (47.5"), on the figure 8 (first ever on the eight) right out of the gate on day 2 of an IMTT tourney at Lake Shelbyville.
This year was spectacular in that I caught some fish and met some stellar people who happen to fish muskies!

Too many to list. Notables include: Some phenomenal topwater strikes in Canada; the first fish on a homemade bucktail; pulling in, hand over fist, a fish my dad hooked with the line wrapped 20 times around the rod tip and a massive bird's nest buried in his reel; my first experience on gin-clear water; EVERY figure 8 fish; and last but not least Reelwise's mid-air scoop to bag a solid 39" and put our 3rd of 4 fish in the boat for the day.

I had alot of good memories this year as it was my best year ever in the water. Over 100 fish in the boat. We had a double header casting but my best meories of this year is my august trip to vermillion with the family. My oldest son has been wanting another musky really bad. Been a couple years since he got his first and the musky gods finally answered with a 45.5"er which ended up being the biggest fish in the boat for the year. We had a few that size and bigger hooked a few other times of the year but he beat me by 1/2". I could not have been more proud. Another great memory from the trip was my youngest son's biggest fish a 38.5" pike. My grandfather had the most action from muskies and some decent ones too. He had several hits and lost one, some follows but he did manage a 32"er. I do his casting so that means strictly topwaters for ease of use and it's fun to watch

Way too many to list! This season was an unbelievable season! Got a new PB one week, only to beat it two weeks later. Got to meet tcbetka and become pretty good friends with him and shared some good times in the boat, with likely many more to come. Got to land some trophy tiger muskies with Sorno out in Utah, well future trophies maybe. Got to take some rookies out on the water this season. Got my first, first cast fish, while taking one of the rookies out....made it look like I knew what I was doing! HA! Got my manager from Cousins subs out a couple of times and got him into his first ever musky which ate a sucker about 20 seconds after I tossed the thing overboard.

Who could forget my most memorable moment at PI?? Coming into the bar sunday morning and hardly being able to hold my head up! Great time!

The fish were just a bonus this season, friendships forged are much more valuable! Looking forward to doing a Lax Replica to finish off the season!

Seeing the biggest fish in my life swimming besides the boat with a 5# carp t-boned. Later that year, having an even bigger fish eat at the boat and do a passable imitation of a polaris missile as she spit the bait.

Best "moments":

Bruce calling Lori and I "Musky Crazy" on the PI outing

Making so many new friends this year through this addiction we call Musky fishining (Joe, Rick, Paul, everybody else...)

Taking my brother, my nephews, the father of my up-coming grandbaby, musky fishing for the first time

Sharing a day on the water with ESOXMANIAC, Pete and Kevin for the first time

Guiding Johnny D on his first Musky (and big honking Flathead), as well as time spent with others I have guided

Sharing Wisers and brew with K-bob, Rick, Smoking Joe, Bob, Bruce, Rusty, Paul, ShaneW in our room every night at the PI outing. favorite trip of the year AGAIN!

Todd...that is just awesome! Hope you can be on the water by the end of February!

Sean...how could I forget your fish that shoulda got away? That was awesome and probably the funnest day I had on the water all year! And watching the tail of a kickin minnow go flying 30 yards out of a huge fish's mouth thinking it got off...I would have cried if it did! LOL

I love muskie fishing I bet you all do too.

Happy holidays everyone!

Didn't fish muskies this year as much as in the past, getting back into the multi-species thing due to my young nephews and nieces. Many great moments this year in regards to muskies, however.

Finally hit a killer rowtrolling bite in late June and put 17 in the boat in five days on a lake that had been a go-to, but had soured over the last few years. During that time I guided a 13 year old from Montana and his father to their first legals. They wanted to keep one to get mounted, but after my explanation of my 100% release policy (barring a world record, of course :)), they agreed. When the father boated his, a heavily barred 39", he said he wouldn't have been able to kill it anyway, "most beautiful thing I've ever seen" was what he said.

Putting the cap on the new muskie dvd has also been a distinct pleasure. Segments with Dennis Lappen and Brad Hoppe were the epitome of fun, and kinder people you will not find. Capturing a series of moments on film, weaving them together, and thereby documenting those moments in time is...well, can't really explain it.

Trading the muskie gear for the duck and deer hunting equipment becomes easier and more welcomed every year. Going through a tranformation, I think, and lovin' every minute of it. Montana becomes more intriguing and beautiful every year and is my addiction.
