Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | First off I need to thank Tom Betka for taking me out fishing today! I felt like I should have paid a huge guide fee for the day I had today. I learned quite a bit about trolling and just had an absolute blast on the water. Today the fish was just a bonus, I could have sat out there all day and not caught anything and still gone home happy! Thanks Tom, I hope we can get out together often! As for the fish....It ate a Bucher Swimmin Joe at about 9 15. After I broke the rod holder plate I finally got the rod out and did battle with the brute. After a few short minutes we got it to the net and Tom slid the Kahuna under her...thats when I saw how big she actually was.....Tom kept saying, you got your 50, you got your 50!! After some high fives we got her unhooked, snapped a few photos and took a measurement. 50 right on the nose! I still really cant even wrap my mind around it! What a great day! Thanks again Tom....sorry about the rod holder...I'm not used to them as they dont come standard on most waders!! Location: Green Bay, WI | No problem Mike, glad you had a good time! Let me know the information you get from the tag data (Mike got the number off a dorsal tag), as that would be interesting. How freaky is that--I fish out there for days and not get a fish bigger than 44", and you are out there for two hours and get a 50! But wasn't it was nice of the musky God to give two biologists a sweet fish with an intact tag? The fish measured just about 22" girth, but that was right in back of the pectoral fins. I simply couldn't measure farther back as I couldn't reach that far with it in the net. Looking at the pictures again, I bet you might have gotten another inch or so in total girth, as it looks a bit fatter there. You can catch her again next year! TB

Posts: 4266 | She's a beauty, and has obviously been eating well. Did you bite her fin off for a souvenier? There have been several nich fish photo'd over the years missing fins. Is taht a DNR netting data thing, or what? Nice fish man. Now the bar keeps getting higher....or are you gonna quit? Hell, I still like catching 40's. Beav

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Thanks guys! Still having trouble believing its real! I'm going to try and call the DNR today and find out who I can talk to about the fish. I will definately report back on any information I get from them, it will be pretty cool to see what info I get back on the fish.

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Yeah, last Sunday he was a bit intoxicated. Hahaha. Trying to tell him to get his butt out of bed Sunday morning at Presque Isle was not easy. But once I mentioned a "bucket of lake water and a sucker" he jumped pretty quickly to the shower! LOL. Definitely won't forget that weekend!
