What are going to be the first 3 baits you throw? WHY?

1. Manta- The bait was super hot for me last fall....could mean nothing for this spring, but I have great confidence in that bait and I think it will work.

2. Baby Shallow Raider- My go to bait last spring. Also a high confidence bait. Good for figure octagons and fish running into your leg.

3. Rumbler- Very interested in throwing this bait. I got a spot that I think it could produce a 50" fish with.....it has before, so why not on Saturday??

1. Baby ShallowRaider - I've caught tons of early season muskies twitching these things. Twitch Twitch Pause!!

2. Baby Wabull - I have never seen such erratic action in a small glide bait. Side to side, up and down, it goes everywhere. Again, twitch twitch twitch pause.

3. Mepps Marabou #5 - Awesome hooker, and the same great Mepps Marabou action in a smaller package. Perfect search lure for active spring musky.

6" minnow , just can't seem to go wrong here.
small buck or spinner- good for a few quick pike, and maybe an ornry muskie.
9" weighted suick, I have seen some stuff happen with this bait time and time again. Plus, the fish like them.

First three? Wow, since I've already been out (one good thing about living here) I can tell you what they were:

1. Rapala jointed X Rap -- WHY? it's just the peffect bite sized suspending crank/twitch bait.
2. Baby Wabull -- WHY? Mostly because it's one of the easiest gliders to work, action is great, and you can cast it about a mile. Partially because I WILL catch a fish on a glider some day so I can tease BN about it
3. Small white/gold spinnerbait -- WHY? Well, because you can hardly go wrong throwing a white and gold spinnerbait!

More and more though? I'm getting away from always having to throw just the right lure and favoring throwing the lures that I like.

I probably shouldn't speak for Joel, but I'm betting the first three baits that hit the water for us on Saturday are...

1) Sucker off the stern.

2) Sucker off the starboard side.

3) Sucker off the port side.

Notice my use of nautical terms. We'll cast some artificial baits after the suckers hit the water I'm sure.

1) EZ-E Riser- midnight tiger
2) EZ-E Glider- purple haze cisco
3) DC-10 Llungen Tail white/silver

Why- because # 1 & 2 are my baits and #3 just looks to good to resist.

No kidding? When I read your post it really made me come about. If that's true, it's hard to fathom.

Sadder still is the lack reading comprehension that runs rampant these days...

"What are going to be the first 3 baits you throw? WHY?"

Not only did Mr Hopeful fail to catch the fact that you were obviously talking about casting lures (since you dont usually cast suckers), he also failed to answer the second part of the question.

So Kevin... I think you deserve partial credit for at least understanding that the question was related to fishing and first baits being used. Technically, a sucker IS a bait, so I'll only knock off 10 points for the first part of the essay.

Failure to explain WHY you made those choices, however, results in a mandatory 50 point deduction. The resulting deduction leaves you with a dismal 40 out of a possible 100 points. On a standard grading scale, that is an F. I do believe some extra credit is due for not only knowing the nautical terms, but also using them effectively in a sentence. (Even though you were not asked about this, it does demonstrate your knowledge and eagerness to learn the craft). + 10 points

Bonus: Spreading good cheer and smoked meat -- 10 points

That brings you to 60%, barely passing with a D.

Perkette- Pearl with Sapphire Kameleon scales
Prototype Shad Glider- 6"- Pearl and Black/ Platinum scales/ Gold Kameleon Highlights
Small Crappie CJ Spinnerbait, or one of my ho-made spinnerbaits.
OOps, forgot why.
Perkette- Small, neutrally buoyant, long glide with a lot of pauses. Depends on depth of weed tops.
Shad Glider- Easy to use and easy to see in any color water. Made to run shallow with a great shimmy and very slow sink rate. Expect it to get eaten on the pause.
CJ Crappie- Easy to retrieve, great pattern, lots of flash, cover a lot of water in a hurry if they want something moving fast to trigger them.
Will also throw SS Shads and Crane Shad body twitch baits. Love the vibration that they give off.
Gonna throw some of my new 10"ers too. Probably in Walleye, Smallmouth and Sucker. Because they are like me....big and slow and use lots of pauses.
