Hey guys,
I've been developing my own jointed lipless swimbaits and have finally gotten the design where I want it. Here's a short video clip showing the bait in a local river. It is well below zero degrees here and the only open water I could find was fast moving and that makes it tough to show this type of bait as the current hinders the action. I did manage to get one short clip that you can see here...
I'll be painting up the prototype and posting pics soon. Oh, by the way, today is my 37th Birthday and I'd like to thank all the gang here at MuskieFirst for helping make the past year of my life so successful!

Thanks guys, I'm having a great day! Can't wait for spring now. I hate testing baits in winter.
I'll post some pics of that particular bait in a couple of days. It will be a Rainbow Trout but I'm also going to make them as Cisco,Sucker, Bass, Perch and Walleye.

The one in the clip is a floater and does run just beneath the surface. I can weight them to run deeper and to sink. They will all run pretty shallow unless counted down as they are lipless. I find the actions on this style of abit to be incredibly lifelike.
As mentioned, the place I was filming had a fast current so it was difficult to get the bait to swim properly. I'll get better footage as soon as possible.
My hats off to Nate for his lipless swimbaits. If you haven't seen them yet, be sure to check them out too.

Those older model Suckers were really productive last season. I stuck my personal best on one and my best friend Sean Tremblay put a number of big fish on his before losing it to a split ring he added to the nose.
The only reason I slimmed them down was because they were a tad heavy for most folks at the time. Now several rod companies have come out with rods that can easilly handle the weight of those older models.

Thanks for doing that Steve I really appreciate it. I hope to have some photos of the bait very soon and some much better footage.
The model I'm the most excited to build up is the Sucker which I should have ready in a week or so.

I'm curious about the area where you are testing that lure....is it some kind of filtration area?
Current does indeed change the action of the lures dramatically. I have the same problem here all winter, surrounded by rivers but all of them have current......and salmon!

Its under a bridge where one part of a river meets the other and the current there keeps the ice off a 20 foot section of water. The current wasn't the only problem though...my rod guides would freeze solid after two casts and the lure's hinge would freeze over.
I hate winter!!!

Snax do you ever plan on making some of the hand carved heavier models because looked so NICE, not saying that they still don't but the hand carved gills on those suckers were awesome!

I actually built up this first one for that market specifically. I nearly have more Bass customers than Musky now! Since I made those Trout gliders, I've been getting so many requests to come out with a lipless swimbait that will have the same level of quality as my other baits. That time is almost here and I'll post pics of the Trout swimbait shortly. I'm just clear coating it one more time.
I'm going to make some huge trolling models too that should turn some heads hopefully. Imagine a 15 or 18 inch Sucker lipless swimbait snaking side to side behind your boat as you pass over a submerged reef! The thought of that gives me chills!

Well, this how the first prototype turned out. This one is 12" from nose to tail. The coloration is not how the actual baits will look. I'm working on getting the California Trout patterns down.
Not sure if all the sizes will have the fins, maybe just the larger one. Hope you like it.

I can hardly wait to make some other patterns now, especially Sucker and Cisco.
While I've got some of your attention, let's not forget about getting bait makers paired up to make some special baits to give to MuskieFirst for all their support. I've gotten a Bluegill underway which I'm doing with my buddy Tigger. Let's get this going guys and give back to this awesome website that lets us show our creations.

I used craft store feathers cut to size. They are held on with epoxy so they should be pretty durable. If they do get chewed off, they don't change the action anyway so no big deal. As much as I love throwing glide baits, these will be a nice switch up when I want to cover water faster. I can really burn this one in and it looks alive.

In the first video I probably held my rod a bit too high as I wanted to make sure that the bait could be seen in the video clip. ASfter I saw how it turned out I knew it would show up ok so I held my rod tip lower. The effects of the paint and epoxy on the depth it runs would be minimal.
