Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I would like to get more into the slop this season with some trolling of spinnerbaits. Most of the slop is 1 to 3ft down and is milfoil. Lots of area to troll that is not fished much at all. Most of the spinnerbaits I have used are ok but just have not found the HOT one yet. How about some advice for a new slop trolling fisherman. What are some of the spinnerbaits I should look into? No rite or wrong answers here, just opinions..............

Posts: 227 Location: Southeast Wisconsin | Hey Mike, What spinnerbaits have you tried already? I ve had luck in the same areas, super burning or slow rolling Nut busters and I used to catch a bunch short line trolling big MG spinnerbaits. Grim Reapers are nice, but tend to hang a little deeper. http://www.randomlurecompany.com/buffalo-hair_lures.php About half way down the page theres a couple pics of a new spinnerbait Im picking up this year that I think is going to work nice in the slop.

Posts: 743 | you HAVE to check out some Musky Bling spinner baits. You can troll them fast and they will stay down in the water..you can troll them slower and they VERY weedless. They put out a TON OF THUMP Mike.. they looks GREAT in the water..very durable..i would get couple of Blings. you wont be disappointed in casting or trolling these. I think they are available at some of the Musky Shows..or PM me. i have every spinnerbait on the market and every basement guys spinnerbait too.. Blings are surely one of go to spinners and one i have a ton of confidence in (after seeing them land monster fish both casting and trolling). i ove 'em..but more importantly, the muskies eat them like crazy!!!! tomcat

Posts: 139 | Look into the new Trueglide spinnerbaits which were created for just this reason. I haven't had one in the water yet, but from the looks of it should be productive and weedless.

Posts: 569 Location: Williamstown, WV | I have seen many spinnerbaits and bucktails but none compare to the durability and quality as a Willey's. Jimmy Willison makes them and he is good at it.....He's a standup guy that just makes a great product. And they catch fish. Check him out at his website at http://www.willeysbucktails.8m.com (and no i'm not sponsored by him...lol) shawn Edited by WV Musky 1/23/2007 11:30 AM

Posts: 203 Location: Germantown, WI | Mike, I have had some success both with Willey's and with the Snowcrest Festus spinnerbait. I too have thought about spending more time trolling spinnerbaits at Pewaukee. I've tried it some, but without any success so far. The fish I have caught trolling spinnerbaits were all caught in the Kawarthas (Ontario). I'm sure it would work in Pewaukee under the right conditions. Has anyone tried trolling the Long Tale spinnerbaits or Pearson's Grinders? I have a couple of Grinders and was thinking of picking up a couple of Long Tales. Tom Ramsey

Posts: 1430 Location: Eastern Ontario | Mike, very few spinnerbaits are made to speed troll and get hammered by 40+ pound fish. Take a look at these, the lighter ones will stay higher with more line out but I use the 2.5 Oz ones and can troll them only a few feet back at 5+ MPH and they stay just under the surface. http://www.riverratlures.com

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | If you're trolling in the top 1-3' take a light raddog and rerig it with 2 #7 or #8 colorado blades like an M&G. If you want to go a little deeper then go with the heavier head. Grinders with a colorado blade works well too. I like the M&G a lot, but you get around 10-15 hours before the arm falls off in my experience.
