Is three mile lake open? Normally this would be a dumb question but this it has been so warm I dunno. I am thinking about going down there this coming weekend. I got to get the musky fever out of my system somehow.

Thanks

I haven't been there but all the ponds around central Ia. are open. I would think three mile would be as well since it is 50 or so miles south of me. Once deer season is over, I'm going to check it out myself.

I'm sure it's open, friend of my lives 20 mins from there and has had ice off his pond for several days.

Does anyone know if the lake level is going to be down 6 feet again this year? I think Creston was using it as there temporary water supply but I'm not sure.

I sure hope it will get closer to normal pool. This past season I could acually look up the shorline to were my buddy caught one the year before. I never really seen any good weed growth last year either.

We haven't been on the lake since fall, but I can't think it's much higher now than then. There was a lot of trees showing up on the west side, that wasn't there before. Good luck Doug

I'm sure it's not iced up. Everything around here is open. I too hope it holds off untill my deer season is over and I"m going to try it one more time!

Turns out I won't be making it down this weekend but with the weather the way it is I'll probable go to P.C. for a while, it is open along with everything else now. It finally opened up here in northern Iowa this past week so no ice fishing this year by the looks of things. In one week I'll be pestering the deer myself for one last time in the high power season, then if the weather holds for a couple weeks I'll try an make it down to three mile. What a crazy winter.

Is there any soft water yet, or has it been too cold?

I was fishing some farm ponds in south central Iowa last weekend and there was a good 5 inches. Three Mile won't likely open up till mid march.

I was at Pleasant Creek last weekend and it was still pretty solid. I was hoping to see some openings and alot of dark colored ice. I would guess another week or two and it'll be open. Alot of ponds around central Iowa are open.

Hoping its out soon, I'm ready to get the boat out on the water. I live just south of Des Moines and my couple 2 acre ponds still have ice with open water in inlet areas only although its been pretty dark ice the last few days, hoping to get down to 3 Mile next weekend if its out.

I'm pretty sure it is Roy, I think there were still quite a few people out ice fishing last weekend, but I don't really know for sure. Had a buddy witness a 45 incher get pulled out through the ice there this winter so there was at least 1 left...unfortunately it didn't make it back in the water though.

If it wasn't for the fact that that fish was probably going to go over the spillway this spring and die in the shallows of the Des Moines River, I would be pretty upset about that fish not going back into the lake. Anyways; keep me/us informed on ice-out condition at the Joke and 3-mile and I'll keep you informed on Pleasant Creek. I tried to talk Sledge into going to Hazel Creek on Good Friday but I don't think it's going to happen. He was suppose to go to Kincaid with Marshall and Rog but I think that fell through as well.

Good luck, keep us posted. I will probably drive over to Pleasant Creek this weekend to check the ice situation. I am suppose to go to Red Wing the first weekend in April to jig some eye's on the river. Thank god the ice is melting. I am tired of not having an excuse for not getting my winter projects done.

Roy,

Stay away from the goats, someone in the Afton bar might think you're after his woman.

roy a couple of us were thinking about heading your direction that weekend and going to palo, we'll see though...maybe we'd be better off at 3-mile due to water temps being a lot warmer.

I will be in Cedar Rapids on Sunday and am planning on swinging through Pleasant Creek to check lake conditions. I will let you know.

Rog, Great advice on the goat. I have been known to get a little carried away in Afton.
