I had my boat put away in "prestorage" before emptying it and cleaning it out. It was in a storage building of the business I work for. Last night that building was broken into and the (I can't use the term I am thinking of right now) culprit/s emptied my boat for me. Everything I use on the water for muskies is gone.

I lost a slew of St. Croix Rods (personalized with my name on them by the way), a bushel basket full of reels almost all Abu's and almost all left handed, A Big Kahuna net, and soooo many baits I just want to cry. A full Lakewood, and a half dozen or more planos full of baits. Some of these baits were very personal to me, a couple of them being customs from Roger Waters, one of which I received for standing up in a wedding. The thing that sucks the most is a very personal item that was on the strap of my tackle box, a guardian angel tie tack I wore at my dad's funeral (that way I knew he was getting some time in the boat with me).

I am incredibly frustrated right now, but please lend a helping hand and keep an eye out for these items, especially any St. Croix's that say handcrafted for Norm Wild Jr.

Thanks!

Geeze. I know nothing can replace sentimental items, but can you hold the storage facility accountable?

Being robbed is a terrible feeling, hopefully the authorities bust those !@#$%^&.

I'm sure we'll all keep an eye on the Swap Boards and Ebay Norm...any chance of posting pictures of any of the custom baits?

The culprits broke into a storage facility, odds are they weren't looking for fishing stuff, but took the opportunity. These guys will be trying to make money off this stuff, no doubt about it, Norm's stuff will be sold off. I'd keep an eye on local tackle shops. They may be dumb enough to try to return the rods and reels.

Norm, I am so sorry for your many losses.

This won't help right now, but later, reflect back: these are just things. They can all be replaced.
The memories that you have associated with these items, you'll make more, maybe better ones in some cases.

Remember the joys you brought to folks (like me!) on your boat. Those are really the irreplaceable things that last.

And if they ever find the sumbitches that ripped you, better hope the cops lock them up away from the rest of us, they do not want a visit from a couple hillbillies bent on revenge for their buddy! How'd you like to be the crook that opens the door to a new visitor whose first statement is, "ya know, I ain't afraid of goin back to prison!" m

Norm

Sorry to hear about the loss, who would want to steal that many potato's. Hopefully Antigo finest will get to bottom of this, I know the guardian angle tie tack is irreplaceable.

Norm,

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I will definitely have an open ear around Antigo during our winter break from college. I will fill my dad in to so that he too can have an open ear for you! Again, sorry to hear about this.

Wow what a bad deal, Norm. Anything I have is yours anytime, man. Those creeps probably left prints all over the cap of that boat, maybe the police can dust for prints. Probably 'kids' you are looking for, unfortunately.

Maybe your Dad can put in a word with the Big Guy and have a message sent off to them. Lightning might be good...

Norm, I've been a police officer for many years working on numerous burglary and armed robbery cases. Make sure you keep in contact with the detectives that took your report. If burglaries continue in the area, you can be sure the offenders are "locals" because a "MO" pattern will develop. Was there a forced entry to the building or not? If not, you may have to take an "inside look". Kdawg

Norm that really sucks! Many years ago I had my house broken into. The police took a report and that was as far as it went. We had many friends who had kids in the local high school and ask them to keep an hear to the ground. Sure enough the kids started braging and got caught. If you know any local kids in the high school, I would offer them a reward to help you. Sorry again!

I'll bet they try to pawn them. Call the pawn shops. E-bay is so easy to search for stolen things now I can't believe anyone tries to fence stuff there anymore. sorry.

that really does suck Norm...I've had some very minor things stolen over the years but I could not imagine that...I know how we all get "attached" to some of our favorite baits...
hopefully someone can track down the culprits.....

What a shame. I planned on selling a few lots of lures in the spring. I'll send you the pics and you are welcomed to any/all of the lures. If you don't like - take anyway to trade for something else. I'll check with a few educators I know in the Antigo and Rhinelander School District and have them listen for stories. Best of luck man...a few beers in Chicago are on me. I'd say beer is on me, but after drinking with you at PI, it would be cheaper for me to replace your stolen gear. Laughing is healthy

Wow, hopefully those fools get what they deserve. I will keep my eyes and ears alert. At least they didnt' take the boat. Most important is the personal stuff that was unintentionally taken.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Best chance for recovery will be when the jerks start bragging and showing off your stuff, maybe trying to unload it. Was anything else broken into that night? Did anything else come up missing in the storage shed? Check with your local PD and see if they have a school liason officer that can maybe put out some feelers at the school. Also, see if there is a Crimestoppers in your county that can put it on the local radio. Crimestoppers pays cash rewards that would not come out of your pocket. Sorry to sound like a commercial here, just a fellow musky addict and police officer who would like to see you get your stuff back. Good Luck Ken

A good friend of mine had his boat broken into in the Three Lakes area about 1 1/2 years ago. He filed a very specific and detailed report. Many of his hand made custom lures were stolen. Lucky thing is that he contacted everyone he knew in the musky world and sure enough they caught the guy about 9 months later. The guy was selling his baits out of some flea markets in the St. Germain area. So my buddy goes up there and walks up this guys display table the following week and sure enough there is some of his stuff. He even bought back one of his lures! My buddy couldn't say anything to the guy because he knew the fuzz were going to execute a search warrant later that week. They did and found 90% of his stuff. The guy had something like 35-50,000 worth of stolen merchandise in his garage. The whole court case is still pending I believe so I shouldn't say too much more. Needless to say you very well could see some of your stuff again someday. I hope you do.

I couldn't believe my friend could stand at this guys flea market table and not say a word.......it had to be amazingly hard!

nwild,

Sorry for the bad luck!

*****MY SUGGESTION*****

WATCH EBAY LIKE A HAWK!!!!!!!! (I know others here have already said this....but here is my further suggestion on how)

Let us know what some of the model numbers for your reels and rods are and some of the rare lures and the common groups of lures you had. Set up an auto watch on eBay for those keywords and you will get updates from eBay. I can only guess that if these guys don't fish and if they don't know anyone who does they will only have a few places to dump your stuff for cash. eBay is the best place I know of for that. Again, please post as I am a big eBay fan and look for stuff all the time as I think others here do too. If you are not an eBayer email me and I can give you some tips on how to set yourself up in 5 minutes and will do some of the background work on your keyword database you should use.

I hope this helps and I hope I can too. I will mark this post and post anything I can find for you. I love cathcing the bad guy!

James

Like Baldy said "Scumbags" . If they are not caught I can remake the wedding one and the others (it won't be quite the same but will look like it). It really, really sucks.

There's just no words to describe that feeling...

I walked out of school once my senior year of college to find that my car had been stolen. "just a car" people said.

I built that car. Took me 5 years and nearly all the money I had.

Sucks losing anything special to you. Sucks more when someone took it on purpose. Here's hoping whoever it is gets caught and you get your stuff back -- ALL your stuff.

If not, I know a bunch of guys who will probably step up and help you get new stuff.

Bet you know 'em too

"The culprits broke into a storage facility, odds are they weren't looking for fishing stuff, but took the opportunity."

i dont know what type of business you work at Norm or how many employees there are, but i would at least consider the possibility it was an inside job and that a fellow employee who knew the boat was in there and just what was in it either did it or told someone else about it who then broke in.

was that the only building broken into? anything else valuable stored there and if so any of that taken as well? any history of thefts or break ins at your work?

Well...I'd say that tie-tack alone should bring those fools enough bad karma to really catch up with them and put them into a sling!

This really sucks to hear and is always my worst nightmare to think of my stuff being stolen. I've had a LOT of stuff stolen from me in the past years, fishing equipment, downhill skis, car parts, baseball cards, etc, etc. No matter how much you try and do the smart and right thing to do your best to protect it, unless you're sleeping on it at night or standing on it during the day...thieves will find a time and a way to get to what they want. I've always been really smart about my stuff and have protected it the best I could...but it still ends up missing.

Hopefully you're able to retrieve some, if not all, of your stuff back.

As for watching ebay....that would really suck to see some of your stuff on there and end up in a bidding war with someone to try and recapture what was once yours to begin with.

Best of luck. May bad karma catch up with those thieves!
