| "Thats Muskie Fishing"
Hear this often? I do. And its usually after a lost fish or a good days skunking, but it can also mean good. An excuse or a way of expressing joy. What is "Muskie Fishing" exactly? One answer? No way.
I have a huge list, but lets see what you all are referring to when you say, "Thats Muskie Fishing!" 
I will start it off...
Having a fish come out of nowhere while telling a story to a buddy only to lose it.
Casting from sun up to sun down without even seeing a fish... What are we out here for?
Sharing the experience with good friends and both being able to feel great about it no matter who caught the fish. (does it ever really feel the same when you catch a 5 pound bass?)

Oh yeah, and the four fish I landed this year, thanks to those new aquaintences.
I put the fish behind the friendships because I'm a people person. I enjoy the time talking and laughing in the boat as
much as the catching of the fish. I never expected the level of camaraderie that exists. It's way cool. Of course there's a little sniping and snapping that goes on between guys on occasion, but I doubt anybody wants it to be sunny and happy all the time.
Leave that to The Teletubbies. There's no muskies in Teletubbyland.

| To me , it's The people I've met , of course the BEAST itself , the boat , just being on the water , cold foggy morning's with no sound except wildlife , warm sunny morning's when you figure you won't see crap but you fish anyway , cold crappy day's when you catch fish and normal ( somewhat ) people call you crazy , time with the family ( my kids are young so musky fishing is limited still ) , COLD BEER , and just being outside and having fun with friends new and old !! If any of this ever get's boring to me I'm giving it up , but fishing and hunting are in my blood so I don't see me giving up anything aytime soon !!! Can't wait until my kid's are old enough to share it with all of us who enjoy the outdoors !!!! |

| It's randomness. Odd conversations, discovering a "weed pattern," getting attacked by swarms of little white flies, Merckid going on and on about the latest girl that will eventually turn him down, unhooking the 10th nice sized LM bass and hearing AROZ say; "this lake is f'ing weird," coming up with insane ideas on the fly..."if only I had a three legged gopher to hook on this daredevle as a trailer we'd be onto something good," it's bombing a hookless jackpot at jetskiiers, getting flashed by random girls on a pontoon boat, discussing having suckers painted on the bottom of my boat as an attractant, getting followed by other boats from spot to spot...realizing it, and doing furious figure 8's for no reason at all, driving from one lake to another and whoever isn't driving is taking a quick nap because it's the only time you'll sleep, looking at new water and wondering what flavor of doughballs you should try...
Above all though...it's the people and personalities that are worthwhile. Having a boat and being able to take guys out who might not get the chance has been the highlight of this past year. |

| I am out there to get my fix, Im a muskie junkie!!!!!! If I cant fish for them, Im on a website, making baits, tinkering with modifications, looking at pictures, BS'ing with buddies over a case of beer about the same story from 10 years ago. It never gets old.
Musky fishing is a way of life for most, once youre hooked, you'll do anything for that next fish, breaking ice with your boat, fishing in pitch black darkness, freezing to death or sunburned so badly, small craft advisories and your laughing and sucking suds in the boat as the next wave comes over the bow, yeah, that just proves how dedicated we are to the sport of Musky Fishing.
I dont think that when someone says, " that's musky fishing" its meant in a bad way, thats just another obstacle you have to overcome while trying for that next personal best or multiple fish day. You for sure dont want to say at the end of a skunk day on the water, " that sucked" Theres never a bad day to be on the water.
Muskie fishing is the best drug out there! well, maybe, when you dont have it, you get the shakes, and when you do have it, you get the shakes. |

| It's 7 hours of throwing a cowgirl and thinking to yourself "$^%&, My arms hurt. My back is stiff. My feet hurt. My thumb is sore from pushing that little button on the reel. My hands are starting to cramp up. It's cold, it's raining, it's windy, we haven't seen a fish since this morning. Why in the hell am I standing out here in the rain and cold throwing this stupid heavy big bladed piece of *Oop, there's one! Ooo, there she goes, she's gonna eat! "UNGH!" GOT HER! Oooo big fish, man she's heavy, ooooooh looklookloook here she comes, SCOOP HER SCOOP HER SCOOP HER YEAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!*
It's putting that fish back in the water, and that few minutes you share with it where it has figured out you aren't going to hurt it, watching it's eyes looking all over when it's about ready to swim off, pointing the tail at your buddy, and tickling it on the belly so it soaks him when it does swim away, and thinking "wow, there it goes" as the fish swims out of sight.
It's throwing that next cast after that, while your knees are still shaking, and you feel like you just drank a pot of coffee, and all of a sudden you're not cold, you're not tired, nothing hurts anymore, and you've got this silly grin plastered on your face, ready to cast for another 4 hours.
It's watching the fog rise off the water at sunrise, and how the sunlight catches the spray off your buddies line making a rainbow, or the sound of that first cast of the morning hitting the water. It's watching the ducks and loons swim around and knowing that somewhere down there there's a fish bigger than any one you've ever seen, and today just might be the day.
It's jokes, it's laughter, it's that dead calm silence where the only sound you hear is waves against the side of the boat; it's beers in the parking lot, stories at the bar and memories of big fish caught, or lost, or seen...
It's shaking your head at the end of the day when you didn't even see a fish and thinking "man, one more cast... Ok, maybe two..."
It's being on the water with someone else who understands what it is, and not needing to talk about it because you both just get it.
It's cold wet fingers, cold toes, driving rain and wind, watching the rain change to sleet, and thinking "man, this is great!"
It's broken trolling motors, worn out reels, lost lures, and broken rods. It's days so frustrating that you swear you'll never do it again, only to wake up the next day and you can't wait to get out. |

| It can be much more than 5k or much less. Best for single guys or retired guys. It's the defenition of patience and perseverance, and maybe insanity. I don't think you can ever catch "the one". |
