Posts: 1937 Location: Black Creek, WI | Seems the original M&G Sunset Spinnerbait has been forgotten by most (awesome bait by the way), but the Cowgirl Frenzy has rekindled the interest in the Magnum #10 Colorado blade. Thus, the Magnum series of LongTales has been born. Here is a Magnum LongShot that had a few fish going during the Vermilion PMTT. Never got bit.... but???? This is gonna be a great night fishing and cooler water (fall) bait for me. Attachments ---------------- Magnum Gold Tullibee.jpg (84KB - 101 downloads)

Jason, Be careful with those blades ruining split rings and swivels. I've lost blades on sunsets that way and had to beef up the blade connection to keep it from happening (albeit after a lot of casting). John

Posts: 1937 Location: Black Creek, WI | Combine the shimmerin' series LongTale with big blades such as the #9 Indiana and #10 Colorado and you got a big fish bait. Burn 'em in Minnesota for a similar yet different look/feel as the world famous Double Cowgirl.... or slow roll them along some Wisconsin breaklines this fall and prove there are just as big of fish here in WI. That flashabou stuff looks stupid out of the water.... but it comes alive IN the water. Especially behind a big blade pushing a ton of water. Posts: 723 | yeah, what rob said, I ended up with the black\chartruese one, havent had the time to cast it yet, but, dropped it in the water while we were trolling, and whoa! it doesnt roll over like most spinner baits on the troll. What about making one of these like a beavertail spinnerbait, Im talking 10-12 inches in length, maybe 3 hooks, around 7-8 ounces, can this be done?

How much and how do we get them ?? MD

Posts: 1937 Location: Black Creek, WI | MD, Only way to get LongTales is via our website. We do not sell them retail. Each LongTale is custom made to order.... so just tell us what you want and we'll make it for you. Or just pick a "standard" design and color from the website if that is easier for ya. www.longtaletackle.com

What do I get if I order one of your lures that I wouldn't get from buying a Shumway Hothead or Grim Reaper and replacing the blade with a #10 Colorado? I'd save money going that way, so what do I get for the extra $$$?

Posts: 1937 Location: Black Creek, WI | Old Timer, The Hot Head is a rubber bait with a hinged wire design. Completely different lure than most spinnerbaits. If that is what you want.... definitely purchase a Hot Head. Shumway's stuff is awesome and worthy of anyone's tacklebox. The Grim Reapers have a long-arm design... which makes them a more traditional spinnerbait. Nice stuff too. Not sure how the 0.051" wire will perform with a big #10 colorado blade either... as I"m sure it will "flex" as you torque on the bait trying to get some speed out of it. I guess all I can say is.... buy a Grim Reaper, make the modification, and see if you like it. Pretty simple. LongTales utilize a short-arm design and 0.062" wire. Also, LongTale prices are not any different than Shumway's stuff.... so not sure why you are questioning the $$$. #10 Magnum Colorado blades cost $1 a piece.... so we added that cost to our bait for the "Magnum Series". If you can find the blades cheaper.... by all means.... buy a standard bait and swap out the blades with your own. If you really want to save money.... you can build your own spinnerbaits from scratch as well. Its kinda fun making your lures... so you may want to consider that option as well. If I were trying to get the most for my $$$$.... I'd buy a 3 oz. LongShot fitted with a #8 Willowleaf blade (standard blade on a Longshot is a #7). This combo is the FASTEST blade-Bait I"ve ever used and really exploits the "speed bite". Then I'd go buy a #10 colorado somewhere (Stamina and Dick Moore are good sources) and swap blades as needed for a painful burner or a super slow-roller. That one bait with two blades would cover almost all your bases. Could other baits do that? Probably.... but they won't burn as fast and easy.... and you won't get the "custom made to order" service. Your choice.

Posts: 1937 Location: Black Creek, WI | Thanks for the order CP! And FYI... the images of the Magnum Shimmer Shots above have the flashabou tied down for the picture to reflect what the body profile looks like in the water. Posts: 1937 Location: Black Creek, WI | I had never caught a musky on a spinnerbait in November..... until last night. Casting a Magnum LongShot (the one in the inital post above) across a feeding shelf at 10 pm with water temps at 42F did the trick. Self Fulfilling Prophecy or not.... it was way cool. For some reason, I have confidence in the heavy thump of the #10 Colorado in the cold water temps and especially after dark. Here are two random photos of some Magnum LongShots that hopefully will produce for another lucky angler. Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | Jason, I can’t believe you didn’t even mention that I had to drag you almost kicking and screaming out on the water last night. I had a goal to proving to you that these fish can be caught after dark in November, little did I know that you would score with a spinner bait, and one of your own design noless. I have begun to hate fishing with Jason, because every time I do he has new variations of his baits, that of course I have to buy. I prided myself on limiting my purchases of new musky lures the last couple of years. I now have an entire section in my tackle box devoted to Jason and Jodi’s CRAP!!!!! THANKS! Good job on the fish last night, I’ll post the pic as soon as I get them downloaded. Nail A Pig! Mike

Hey Jason, I've been using your baits this year, very impressed. I just ran up on this post. Funny thing is I was just trying to design a spinnerbait just like the one's you've made with flashabou and #10 colorado blade. I am trying to make my own spinnerbaits for fun and I was wondering where you get the molds for your heads, smelter, etc.. or at least where I could find information about doing all of this. I want to pour my own heads and just trying to find out where to start. Thanks
