Posts: 32880 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I recently received an email from Ted Takasaki, President of Lindy Tackle. A customer had contacted him with a story and pictures of a BIG muskie caught while walleye fishing in Minaki, Ontario. The big fish hit a Lindy Rig Spinner Snell, and the angler finessed her into the boat. Here's an excerpt form the email Lindy received with the pictures and story. " I wanted to applaud you for the strength and durability of your Lindy Rig Spinner snells. Recently on a trip to Minaki, Ontario I was pleased with the success the spinners were affording us for walleyes. What I was surprised about was the strength and durability it had in helping me land the fish of my life time. While walleye fishing I hooked, caught and released a nearly 58 inch (29 inch girth) Muskie on a Lindy Rig. I was amazed that the line did not break under the weight and pressure of this enormous fish. " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The fish was reported caught in late June, and was released. I know many of you fish Minaki, and wanted to let you know this big girl and undoubtedly her sisters are still out there on the prowl. Posts: 273 | Maybe that is why I am not catching any muskie this year. I need to start pulling a crawler harness. Awesome fish. Jeff

The Fargo-Moorhead Muskies Inc. Chapter held the Chapter Challunge there last year. At least two different parties reported seeing fish in the 58" range. In the three days of the event, there were five fish caught over 47", and 2 at 50+. Good body of water.

"58 inches with girth of 29 inches estimated to weigh 60 pounds, hit a Lindy Rig Spinner and 4 pound test main line and has been submitted for a world record for light line." www.outdoorsweekly.com Congrats to Jon Solseth for the catch & release !! Shouldn't this fish be under review by the new panel put together by Ramsell? I believe with those specs that this fish should qualify for review if I remember correctly. This might be the new record! I think Spray measured this fish.

Why would you say that the fish is not likely to survive. You don't know that. You don't know how long it took to land, the water temp, and how it swam away. I would say the fish has an excellant chance to survive. All I got to say is WOW! And pull the sticker off the top of that Merc! That's as bad as the guys that don't wash the blue off of new tires! Posts: 32880 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Guest, it was released. The fish can only be considered if kept. ML, according to the full story, it didn't take all that long to land. It doesn't have redder fins than many I've caught on full bore Muskie gear, the photo may or may not really reflect the true color of that fish, and it IS NOT 'too bad' the fish was caught on 4# test, IT SIMPLY WAS. I sure as hell wouldn't cut the line to satisfy anyone's potential worries, and I'm betting not many other anglers would either. The photo angle was off the front deck. Plenty of height there because the angler is sitting down on the rear deck. Congratulations to the angler!

Posts: 221 Location: ohio | Congrats on a really nice fish..... Guys,,,lets get real here, If that was you walleye fishing and a lunge this big grabbed your bait, What would You do ?? cut the line because you Think it MIGHT not survive the fight...or your handling ....I dont think so...if you would,,,,theres something really wrong with you .....I'm not talking anyone down but give a pat on the back when it is due ! I never caught a lunge that big,,,someday maybe i hope, but when another muskie man does catch one, releases it then shows us the picture...I'm glad for him.. at least he released it and passed on that he did, and also where he caught it and on what....Unlike some so called fisherman i know who catch fish on a secret lake on a secret bait ....while doing a super secret muskie dance....Tiger

Posts: 381 | World's record (catch & release) 6-pound test line muskie caught by our guest Len Belpedio only one mile from our resort. Len caught his prize 53-inch muskie using an ultra-light rod with a #3 Mepps spinner at dusk on July 13, 1998. We're proud of Len for releasing his trophy fish so another fisherman can have the experience of "catching the fish of a lifetime." http://www.roughrocklodge.com/
