Posts: 425 Location: Roseau | We were up on opener, fished sat. morning and evening. With the low water most of our better spots had very little weed growth so we had to explore. We found good weeds in some sand bays and none in others. A storm rolled through friday night, had one follow sat. morning and that was it. Water temps were 72 in the bays and 70 main lake around the angle. Sabaskosing water temps were 74. We tried a little of everything, weedy bays, rocky points out side of bays and reefs near bays. I think the storm just had the fish turned off. Usually we move a ton of fish on opener. Good luck.

Hey Guys, Just got back from a long weekend up on the BIG POND - LOTW- Sabaskong bay area We stayed at Mylies place, Had probally the best trip for weather ever, flat calm for 4 days, little wind. All the fish are on main lake weeds, find Cabbage on main islands, you will find BIG muskies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I have never seen so many big fish as I did on this trip, I caught a 49.9999, Just hair shy, also a 48.5, 37, 31, and had on about another 8 that I simply lost because fish shook the hooks out. My other buddies with WFO outdoors Pro-staff caught 42, 42, , 42, 40, 40, 40 37, GET THIS, My buddy Mike Laird was in his Ranger 620 fishing a streach of shoreline, he just let off on his trolling moter, a second later, WHAM!!! a big muskie smoked his trolling moter blades, he quick looked down and saw the muskie, and pulled up his moter and saw perfect teeth marks on the housing of the trolling moter, pretty COOL!!!!!! Top water was HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the DOC, top water, but man did I loose some nice fish. Buchtails did good, but topwater was best, Water temps are heating up, started weekend at 68 left at 73 degrees Good luck heading up the end of July, need to catch a 51-53 or so incher I raised keep this post going and give some feedback on temps etc,... Good luck Dusty Carlson WFO OUTDOORS Chippewa Falls, WI

Posts: 94 Location: Perham, MN | Treasure Island is Buenavista's outpost in the Basil channel. The reason I asked if you were staying there is because i remember reading a couple of entries out of the cabin's journal written by someone from WFO Outdoors (I guess I assumed it was you). Im not sure on the price but i'll be up there july 7-16. Cant wait! Zach

Hey Zman, I did not realize that was the name of that place yes that was me I think, in the journal, we like to stay there but, have trouble charging up our trolling moter batteries to full with a generator. So we just stay at Mylies or Buenna Vista, which ever has room. I like reading the enteries in there, like the one about the bear hunters and they lost Chopper the bear dog to a bear. pretty cool. Yes the price is not bad either, do you go up only once a year. we usally go up in june, july end aug and october? Whats your direct e-mail, I got a question for you? Dusty

Posts: 94 Location: Perham, MN | I try to make it up at least 2 or thrtee times a year, but instead of always staying at the cabin we camp nearby. Yeah ther are some pretty sweet stories in that journal, especially the bear hunter's. Anyways heres my email: [email protected] Zach

Posts: 239 Location: Madison, WI | NORTHWEST ANGLE REPORT: Water temps varied from 70 – 75 depending on the day. The fish were very active! Cabbage/rock combo's best. Top water and buck tails (silver/black) both did their fair amount of damage. Pacemakers (large & small), top raiders and jack pots on top. A few other lures that worked well include reef hawgs, phantoms and Rad Dogs. Lots of pike including a couple in the mid-thirty range paid us a visit. I smoked my lower unit early in the week. Water is low! Navigate with caution… Attachments ---------------- can2.jpg (41KB - 100 downloads) can3.jpg (25KB - 109 downloads) cansunset.jpg (26KB - 110 downloads)

Posts: 136 | Hey CPR Guy. I'm sure you realease your fish but you shouldn't throw that verticle hold up on this site. I know it's not that big of a deal. I'm not some fanatic about it. But it's hard on those big fish. Next time loose the WI guide hold and support the fish.

Posts: 572 | I agree about NOT showing the vertical hold.....still a great picture.....congrats. If I ever catch a 55 incher, I won't be able to hold it much away from my body, much less with one hand. The vertical hold won't be an option for me. Getting old sucks sometimes. Congrats again on your catch and sharing it with others.

Posts: 136 | YOu guys are going to have a blast. I know the fish will be moving big time. Hopefully you get some clouds and fronts. As far as info, if you can find weeds fish them. We had to drive 35 miles to find weeds. Most of our action came on the rocks. Just gotta be the right rocks. Everything looks good but most of it isn't. Be prepared to take out a 2nd mortgage for gas money. I am going back for 7 days in August. The big girls will be doing a kamikazi mission on the topwater.

Saw fish on almost all different types of lures fish were really moving water temps between 70-73 and the weeds arent growing to well this year however there are weeds in a lot of the bays good luck up there!!

Posts: 7 | Great Info CSG and Brandon. I'm leaving for the NW Angle Next Tuesday for 12 days, this will be my 1st time to LOTW. I've been going to Wabigoon the last couple years these same weeks. Anyone heading to the Goon in the next couple weeks I can mark a map if you want as I always go there these same weeks, end of July, Early Aug. PM Me. As the water tempatures are climbing with this heat the last week or so I get the impression the fish will be relating more to rocks? I got the Hydrographic map of the area and man there are a ton of good looking areas, a million islands etc.. One of you mentioned "the right kind of rocks" , could you maybe expand on that a bit how I might differentiate? Any tips, ideas or areas to try that your willing to divulge would be greatly appreciated. PM me if you like ! Edited by Hoosiertech 7/19/2006 10:26 AM

Posts: 2269 Location: SE, WI. | Ok guys; here is your LOTW update. Fished the last 11 1/2 days on the woods. Fished from the northern part of sabaskong to the big narrows, and up to the skeet Island area. My wife and I boated 25 musky up to 47". 14 fish were over 40". Raised 187 musky for the trip. Fish were hot early in the trip but seemed to get sluggish as the trip wore on. The bloom exploded the last 4 days. Fish the leeward sides of the islands or run north or east to get out of the bloom. Fish boated early in the trip were on bucktails and topwaters then bucktails became less effective and topwaters seemed to prevail with some plastic baits. We had about 6 fish in the 48-50"+ hit short or miss baits. Fish seemed very fickle and gun shy. TOO MUCH PRESURE??? Lots of follows. Seemed like the summer peak for July 06 was the 4th-18th. Thought the bays were slow with lack of weeds. Water temps were 75-80. Frustrating trip for lack of big fish STRIKING... That was our findings...GOOD LUCK!!!
