Posts: 656 Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | I thought I would start a thread for peeps to post the conditions on Mille Lacs. So how was the opener? The fish moving at all? Not asking for gps coordinates, just general info on the fishing at the Big Pond. Let's keep this going all summer. Thanks

I'm convinced that "Mille Lacs" is Ojibwe for "Big Sewer"......fishing was brutal on Sunday.

Posts: 9 | Anyone hear anything about the big pond lately? Thinking of heading up Saturday and wondering if they are going up north yet or if it I'd still be better off heading to the south bays. Any info would be appreciated as I have not been up there yet this year.

Posts: 2089 | Was out with clients yesterday and saw 10 fish and had a serious case of HEARTBREAK.Young client hooks his first muskie, oh, 50" and 35lbs.,just about to slip the net under her when she makes one more run and comes unpinned.Without a lot of pressure, the fish opened one of the split rings and was gone.He hooked a 42-43 later in the day that also came unpinned at boatside when she did the corkscrew.Nate had a tough day but kept chucking.Surface temps were in the 69-70 degree range. In the store for 2 days then back to the Pond. Posts: 382 | Was out all day yesterday in the Vineland area and didn't see or catch anything. Weeds are up, water was 71. Quite a few boats out. Picked up some nice smallies on the rocks with a split shot and leech to end the boredom! KOMER

Fished friday night and all day Saturday in Isle, Wahkon, Vineland and Roland. We ended up moving 6 fish and of course boating plenty of pike. The fish are in the weeds but the window of activity seems to be extremely small. At one point on Saturday we had seen 1 fish in 8 hours then moved 3 in five minutes. Not many boats at all in Vineland should have been a clue to us that the muskie fishing was brutal!

Posts: 382 | Fish are starting to move! Found a rock reef that was loaded with muskie. Had 4 or 5 hot follows and two blow ups on prop baits after sundown. Could see fish as plain as day on sitting on the rocks, it was unreal watching them only feet from the boat!

Posts: 656 Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | Fish have stopped moving! Or, are slooow at best. Fished N. End. a few follows for my partners, I think they said 10. Ok, that might sound like things are moving but the fish were only doing their part for the tourist trade. In other words they were low and slow. A couple of big fish were seen but...well, it was the old see me.. ...but you can't catch me. I didn't get a follow. Nothing moved on anything I threw, but at least I saw a fish so it's a baby step in the right direction. Lake was calm, with just a little ripple at times. Fish seemed to be on the break. Seems like that little weather front that came through late Friday night, early Saturday morning shut things down. We fished Leech on Sat and moved nothing on Leech so came down to Mille Lacs on Sudday hoping to improve our odds, I guess we did if getting a few lazy follows count for anything. Saw a few familir faces up there. Felt like a reunion of some sort.

Posts: 656 Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | Any new reports this week? I was up last Tuesday for a day. Moved a few fish but no strikes. Pretty slow again. Fished Vineland mostly then ran up to N. end and looked at all the fish in the aquarium. The fish on the N. End were so negative that you could drop a jig on their backs and they wouldn't move. But that was 5 days ago. I'm slow in posting reports. Anyhow, saw a number of fish just sunning themselves but as I said nothing doing.
