The other day I had the pleasure to fish with a gentleman named Bob Lloyd from Indy. Bob booked his trip several months ago, and while on the phone with Bob he told me how he just wants to catch a musky....

As I get to the boat ramp to meet the boys for their musky experience, I am greeted by Mr. Lloyd, who quicky chimes in with, "Ever fished with anybody that needed to bring their own oxygen?!?!?!" Bob is going through some tough times right now with his physical health, but he wasn't going to let that get the best of him.....he wanted to catch a musky #*^@ it!! LOL

Now rewind about 15 minutes before I pick them up......this is where fate and karma come into play........

As I was loading my boat up for the trip, I ran into my good friend Chris Walker. He told me about a 45 that he got earlier in the morning on a sucker and asked if I was going to take any out. I said, "No, god I hate suckers...." Chris twisted my arm hard enough and was kind enough to give me one that he had left over. So I make my way to the ramp, with the sucker I was never supposed to have had. I meet Mr. Lloyd and his partner. We load up and head out to the lake. I rig up the sucker, and drop my only weight into the lake...DOH!!! I put the sucker out anyway, and we start fishing. The sucker stays on the surface the whole time, and after an hour I am about ready to just put it back in the livewell......then I see my good friend and a guy I have guided a few times, Pistol Pete. I yell over to Pete and ask if he has any weights on his boat, and he tells me yes. THANK GOD. I motor over to him, and grab the weight from Pete. THANKS PETE. I hook the weight up the leader, drop the sucker and continue fishing. About 12 mintues later, the sucker rod goes off. I grab it, get us into position and instruct Mr. Lloyd what I want him to do. I had the rod over to him, tell him to reel up the slack, and when you feel dead weight, HIT 'EM and HIT 'EM HARD!! Bob does it PERFECTLY and I soon realize by the fight and the bend in the rod, that Bob has on a good fish. The fish was great with MANY headshakes and runs. We finally land it, and I am very excited to see what is in the bottom of my Frabill. I look over at Bob, smiling like a kid in a candy store....but the fight and the fish did her best to beat Bob, it she she just didn't have it in her to beat this man who was determined to catch a musky. Bob was having trouble breathing, and cranked up the oxygen intake. The fish rested in the net for about 5 minutes while Bob also caught his breath. Once Bob was ready, I picked up the fish, placed it in his hands and took what I believe is the best photo I have yet. Bob with his first musky, and a 48 incher to boot!!!

It sure was a hell of a way to kick the door down on the musky world, not to many folks can say their first musky was a 4 footer! So he caught the fish on a sucker that I was never going to bring along and we would have never boated that fish if it wasn't for Pete and his weight!!! Thanks Chris and Pete! I owe you big time!!! I guess it pays to have friends on the water!!! LOL

Congrats Mr. Lloyd. I am glad I was there to share that moment with you!!!

Truely an awesome story. Thanks for sharing Mike and great job! That's gotta be the best part about guiding, is putting people on fish and seeing that smile and sense of achievement on those faces...the satisfaction and gratification of making others happy and smile. Not only that...but for someone that may not have had the means or ability to do it themselves. Very cool. Congrats!

Now that may just rival "Mike Koepp's triple" trip. Congratulations on a memorable experience. I can only imagine what Mr Lloyd felt. Super job Mike (and gang).

Mike that is a great story to share with everyone. Not only is it a moment you will never forget but Mr. Lloyd will never forget it either.

If you guys have never heard of Fishing Has No Bounderies, please check them out. We've been participants for the last 3 years and there is no greater feeling then making someone with some sort of disablity have a couple of great days on the water.

Keep up the good work Mike.

Great Story! Talk about determination and being vested in acheiving a goal. I hope there is a couple more muskies out there for Bob Lloyd. Everything happens for a reason and this story is a perfect example of this.
